Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 We started Battlestar.....if the cylons have a plan, it isn't kill all the humans, since they could have already...... I’ve watched it through twice. Very much enjoyed it

Probably my favorite all time sci-fi series. Great characters, fabulous world building, cunning narrative twists. Just realize that it's probably half or a whole season too long. And the ending was bashed, but I enjoyed it.

I was pretty okay with the ending but the third season kinda chapped my ass. I think too many gloss over that third season of boring-ass drama and then unfairly bash the end.

In hind-sight, there's inconsistencies and far-fetchedness, but when I watched the plot and reveal unfold in real-time I was riveted.

Season 3 should have been about 8-10 episodes... but I suppose the deal was for a “full season” so it had to be 15 or whatever. I still enjoyed it.
Musk21 Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Anybody watch Yellowstone on the Paramount network? Season 2 ended in August, but I finally got around to bingeing it the last few nights. Great show!
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 My daughter was sick last week, so I encouraged her to just start watching some Little House on the Prairie episodes... We both are now addicted again. I'd binged that on DVDs a decade ago, so it's nice that it's on Amazon now. Recently, I watched Season 3 of Atypical. I enjoyed that.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Author Posted November 21, 2019 Mr. Robot dropped the best TV episode of the year on Monday... That show is legitimately great and under appreciated just like The Americans.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 Expanse season 4 was underwhelming although still good. The Witcher was very good. I didn't think Henry Cavil could pull off Geralt, but he does.

PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Even my son that doesn't like fantasy much liked witcherThe critics are panning it for the lack of markers during time shifting, but the audience probably didn't care when things happened and add up the effect of it all even without knowing when..

That show is legitimately great and under appreciated just like The Americans. I just started watching this after a co-worker suggested it several times over the course of a week or two. I'm only 5-6 episodes into season 1 and it's really good. Other than some obvious tokenism, it is really well done so far.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Sigh. We spent last year watching the first half of Battlestar.... And now it is no longer free with prime. I can pay to watch it, or watch "free" stuff.....

BSG seems to rotate streaming services pretty regularly, it will be back on Netflix or Prime in the future I imagine.

We've seen teh first two....and the last two are on PRIME, but now you have to pay.....we'll probably just watch a bunch of included stuff, we'll see.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Watched recently: Messiah on Netflix... thought it was really good. You, Season 2 on Netflix... It was solid, but not as good as Season 1... though the last two episodes were interesting. Saved by the Ball: The College Years... I think that was on Hulu... that was fun. The Wonder Years... I'm currently watching that show from the late 80s/early 90s. Good stuff. Recently I also re-watched all the Leah Remini: Scientology episodes.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I watched the final season of The Ranch last night... anyone else seen it? Any thoughts?
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I watched the final season of The Ranch last night... anyone else seen it? Any thoughts? Love it, but I'm not caught up to the final season. Sam Elliot and Danny Masterson keep me laughing continuously. I could see the show being on a loop in my garage some day when I'm an old grumpy dude.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Finished season 2 of Jack Ryan. Generally entertaining tv, if a bit more rambo than the early novels were......which isn't a surprise.
Musk21 Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I'm in the midst of watching Shameless. 10th season just aired on Showtime, but the whole series is available on Netflix. Pretty funny, a little raunchy, very entertaining!
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Finished season 2 of Jack Ryan. Generally entertaining tv, if a bit more rambo than the early novels were......which isn't a surprise. The second season was a huge letdown after the first season, which was all about research and finding the problem, not going in full Rambo and taking out an entire country by himself. The entire point of Jack Ryan is *not* to be a part of the action, as he left that world to be an analyst. That analyst job is literally his character catalyst moment. He cares SO MUCH, which brings him into occasional action, but his actual purpose is to be the smartest person in the room and only take (mild) action after the system fails him.

I enjoy more things than I used to, because I don't put my expectations on them. To be clear, this is about judging things like this, not from one movie to another in a series. That said, I'd have liked more analysis also. But that's not the show, so I'll just enjoy it for what it is. Not saying my approach is right or not, it's just how I've changed over the years.

My wife and I really enjoyed the first season.

PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Saw the first episode of Picard; really enjoyed it. Lots of callbacks to Next Generation that felt natural and not simply fan service.
