gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Changing subjects, anyone see the ending of the The Americans? One of my favorite shows and it had a strong ending, although not the one I wanted them to have.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Not that I want to squelch this discussion, but before it goes too far down the political, racist, sleep aid discussion, it might be best to jump it to one of the other threads. But yeah, concur with all that’s been said on the subject.Good point. We are probably going to go into The Americans next, though Battlestar is also possible.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Rewatching Band of Brothers for what is probably the 20th time but first in 5-6 years. And it's still probably the greatest thing ever put on television. Even after all this time, it's simply magnificent.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 My wife and I are considering The Expanse as our next show to binge/get into. Anyone have a thought on it? (Westworld and Legion were both drop-offs, so we need something good)
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 (Westworld and Legion were both drop-offs, so we need something good)I caught up on Westworld just in time to watch the finale with everyone else. Not sure what I just watched with that finale. Hated it.

D. Hocking Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 So season two of Legion starts out weirder than season one. I like weird, but it might be getting too weird for me. How did the season end? Did it remain weird for the sake of being weird or would you recommend it? I liked season 1, but two seasons of weirdness without a sign of a little more coherency might be a bit much.

D. Hocking Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I stopped watching it. Thanks- I think I might hold off. I probably watch too much TV as it is, and cutting out 8 to 10 hours by not watching Legion might not be a bad thing.

I probably watch too much TV as it is, and cutting out 8 to 10 hours by not watching Legion might not be a bad thing. Yeah, I'd skip season 2. Terrible pacing, plotting, and an absolute mess of a narrative in the finale.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Best sci-fi show since BSG. Maybe even better. It’s phemomenal.Agreed. It's a bit slow going at first; and the characters take a while for them to warm up to you. But it's just excellent. Great narrative direction, pacing, writing. Complex characters. Complex world that's believable and rich. (I still like BSG better, even with its missteps in the final season).
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I caught up on Westworld just in time to watch the finale with everyone else. Not sure what I just watched with that finale. Hated it.Yeah. I was let down. It's like Lost but more convoluted and with less likable characters.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Yeah. I was let down. It's like Lost but more convoluted and with less likable characters. I feel like we have a wave of TV writing that is trying too hard to be clever. The time jumping back and forth really hurt Westworld IMO. A more straight line narrative this season would've been far better for all involved.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 Yeah. I was let down. It's like Lost but more convoluted and with less likable characters.Definitely. They did their best to confuse us with different timelines, worlds, and who is or isn't a host. I guess William is a human that transitioned to being a host later on? Very disappointed after they were gaining steam episodes 2-5 in season 2.
jimmer Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Sometimes a show gets so caught up in being unpredictable, weird and original, it loses it's ability to tell the story. For me, Legion and Westworld are good recent examples of that like 'Lost' is an older example.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Definitely. They did their best to confuse us with different timelines, worlds, and who is or isn't a host. I guess William is a human that transitioned to being a host later on?Very disappointed after they were gaining steam episodes 2-5 in season 2.I was thinking that the scene with William indicated that the present story line was taking place further in the future than we realized. As he looks like he just came back from blowing up his hand confronting Delores. I'm just not sure I care any more about the show. I thought BSG played out the worthwhile philosophical underpinnings of human v. robot/cylon/host; and Westworld confuses convolution for depth--the immortality for humans angle had potential, but it got buried in all the brutality and look-at-me cleverness.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Another show I've recently been binging is Netflix's Sense 8 (it's only two seasons, but it had me hooked this weekend).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I'll give Westworld one more season, but it's close to losing me. At least the characters aren't as stupid as on Man in the High Castle, which I gave up on.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 and cancelled....right? thought it's on the list to watch.Picked up by Amazon.

PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Finally caught the Expanse season finale; just excellent. And it could have acted as the series finale, but I'm very glad it is not.
jimmer Verified Member Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Watching 'Succession' on HBO. Enjoying it. Looking forward to 'Sharp Objects' which starts Amy Adams and premieres on HBO this Sunday.

Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Sharp Objects and The Sinner. Both very good shows. I do not recommend trying to watch them at the same time. They are pretty much the same thing.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Any of you Food Network watchers? New series that started this last year called ‘Girl Meets Farm’. Not sure exactly where she’s at but I think near the Fargo/Moorhead area. She’s the daughter of a colleague of mine ... fun show.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Better Call Saul is the best show on television. And the fact it's a prequel makes that even more amazing.
