What looks like a pretty easy infield popup, drops on Sano's head.   DOINK !  And end's up in a 5-3 putout!

I feel for the guy.  A few years ago, I did the exact same thing while playing softball.  My event was closer to a line drive, and it was in the outfield, but there was a smaller audience.  

 

My reaction was different as well.  That marked my personal record for "loudest I've ever yelled an expletive."

But with regard to Sano, last off-season when the discussion was whether he would be moved to RF, one of my arguments against that being seriously considered by the FO was the shakiness I had seen from him on infield popups. That seems like a skill (or lack) that would carry over to the outfield, to judge balls in the air.

 

He's good at coming in on slow rollers and firing to first for the out, but he's shy of the ball hit hard at him, not reliable on balls hit to either side, and now we have further evidence of the adventures when the ball's in the air.

 

That said, I'm all for moving him back to third from right. But fans had better be prepared for below MLB-average play at the position, for a season or two at least.

That play will actually slightly increase his fielding percentage because he gets an assist.
