Reusse slams the Twins

As much as I would love for him to be a cornerstone with the Twins, he will not commit to putting in the hard work necessary to be a "good" ball player

Now that Terry Ryan has unequivocally stated this week that Sano's future is as a third baseman, maybe this will spark both Ryan to actually make this happen, and Sano to rededicate himself to it?

None of us have any idea what Sano weighs, let's just all admit that.

Personally I think too many assumptions are being made about his 23 year old character because he failed to lose a requisite amount of weight set out by the Twins.

To take that and infer he is lazy and uncommitted is pretty presumptuous imo, not to mention highly questionable. He sure looks like he takes his game seriously and we quickly forget what this kid had to do to even get to this stage given where he comes from.

The outfield experiment was a disaster that should have never occurred, even TR has pretty much recognised that at this point. Had that absurd decision never been made we wouldn't even be talking about this and it's likely the Twins wouldn't have even asked Sano to lose any weight.

I agree.

I guess that begs the question, are the Twins planning to deal Plouffe or move him to another position?

Or

Perhaps they are taking a step backwards with Sano and will platoon him between 3rd and DH for now as a part time player versus starter?

IMO, it appears to me that Trevor Plouffe's days as an every day player for the Twins is rapidly drawing to a close.   Nothing more to say on that matter that hasn't already been said here quite succinctly.   It also looks to me like the real decision, from a roster perspective, may come down to Max Kepler vs. Plouffe, and with Kepler seemingly starting to build a sense of how to play at this level on a day-to-day level, that looks like a safe and correct call, at least from my viewpoint from the outside looking in.

Based on recent info supposedly coming out of the Mets camp about changes needing to be made now, it might be time to visit (or revisit) that trade possibility just to clear a roster spot.

He did say "future"......I don't know if that applies to this team, this year, or not....but maybe I'm parsing too much.

I can't imagine that even this regime waits until Plouffe is a FA to play Sano at 3B.

I agree, mostly because of the hamstring issue. Unless they get painted into a corner during a game, I'd expect to see Sano at 3B, 1B or DH the rest of the year. Probably all three spots, with DH his predominant position until he's fully healed and the Plouffe situation is resolved.

This is my guess as well.  I doubt he plays 1B much unless Park heads to Rochester though.  I don't see how he'd get many ABs if Sano starts playing 1B too.  I wouldn't necessarily mind it, but if Park is on the active roster he should be getting some ABs.

You make assumptions sound like facts. You, nor any of us here know anything about Miguel Sano, and frankly, I think it's a bit offensive to assume any of us know what's in his head; or any of these players' heads.

Sano is a 23-year-old. If he took his job seriously, he'd probably be about one of ten in the history of the world who ever did. People tend to change and re-examine what's important to them once they've learned a hard life lesson or two and realize that ability alone isn't going to make them their best selves, look at your examples of David Ortiz and Jose Bautista.

Speaking of, why in the world wouldn't you want one of those guys on your team?

Because they are "me first" guys, much like Carlos Gomez was. To mention another, I'd love to have Mike Trout, but wouldn't want Bryce Harper on our team. I started my article with IMO. Sorry if I offend. Thanks for the question.

My guess also....but I'm tired of assuming good decisions, only to watch this.

I think it is reasonable to have your stance, even if I disagree with it. I won't root for players who beat women, and don't want them on the teams I root for, for example.

It's time we assume poor decisions and be pleasantly surprised if one actually makes sense.

Most agents will take the money.  This will depend on how Sano feels about the Twins 3 years from now.  That is when you make the decision, or when his agent tells you he will in no way resign here.

In my experience that reasoning is applicable to most things in life.

I try to be more optimistic than that, but sometimes circumstances simply don't allow it. :)

The only reason he can get away with coming in overweight is because he knows he's an enormous asset to this team.  He is paid to keep himself in shape to play baseball to the best of his ability.  His boss told him to come to ST at a certain weight.  He knew he was going to be running around in RF.  In most other professions if you are paid to perform a service and then dont do your job as directed by your employer, you get let go.

I see no reason why an assumption about his poor preparation for the season shouldn't be made.  Dont short sell 23 year olds either.  Work ethic has nothing to do with age and people who say it does are probably elitist old farts that are scared of us millennials.   ;)

i agree.  Just because someone is 23 years old doesn't automatically mean they are irresponsible and don't care.  Most successful athletes (at least the ones i knew in college) trained very hard and were dedicated to the sport they were in.  Yes, some worked harder then others and most if not all of them partied just as hard as they trained, but you get the idea.

I agree work ethic has nothing to do with age, but experience often has a lot to do with age. What it takes to be a professional athlete is a learning experience.

I see nothing to suggest that Sano is

A. Overweight

B. Out of shape

C. Poorly prepared

You continue to stretch a single detail to mean much more than it seems to indicate.

I have nothing against millenials and have many good ones working for me. They all have much to learn however, and that's perfectly ok.

Are we having a millenial party on this thread? If so, I'm in!

ain't no party like a millennial party cause a millennial party don't stop!

What do we have to learn from you, Generation X? Don't you know we can watch youtube videos, or ask Siri to figure out anything?!

Also, could you repeat that part at the beginning? I was tweeting my friends and planning on taking 6 weeks PTO. Hope that's cool!

Don't push yer luck, junior.

Party like it's 1999.

It's just a shame that most all can't party like it's 1964.  Then you'd know what party really means.

Ah, The Great Society party.

I'll instead go with July 20th, 1969. That was one heckuva party day.

The lack of digital record makes that much more difficult.

Though, in many ways, that's probably a good thing.  I'm glad that I grew up in an age where every stupid thing I did didn't end up on the interwebs or that the interwebs was there for me to do stupid things on.
