Hard to believe this is only the third time he's won the award, given the batting titles and the MVP season in his past.  Nonetheless, good for Joe.

Noticeable difference and takeaway from last week:

* Joe took some big hacks early in the count.

Can he continue this approach? Clearly he has been needing to make this adjustment... hope he can ride this wave.

I'm confused. I don't know whether to post here about Joe or the Raised Panic Level thread. Please advise.

I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. Almost giddy.

We still have a long way to go this season. (Ugh, I kind of hated to type that. Lol) I was down on Mauer coming in to the season. I was hopeful, third removed from his last concussion and such, but I couldn't bring myself to put a lot of Fath in the sunglass idea and his sudden revelation about not seeing the ball well.

And then he went out and hate the great April and I encouraged like crazy! Then came the poor start to May, and fair or not, I was caught up in the idea that April as an early season mirage. But he has been finishing the month strong, punctuated with this past week and this reward. What I have noticed is a perceived aggression at the plate. In his day, one thing that set Joe apart was his ability to work counts and hit even with a couple strikes on him. One knock has always been that perhaps he was always too patient, and should have used his natural size and strength to be more aggressive early in his AB's.

With the exception of his MVP season, Mauer has never been a slugger. And even at 1B, he doesn't have to be. A complete, hopefully effective and dangerous lineup, is made up of many parts. Healthy for 150 games as a 1B and DH, anywhere close to his old self as a hitter brings value to the lineup: .290-.300 AVG/ .370-.380 OB/ 34-40 DBLS/ double digit HR is very valuable, whether he hit 2,3, or maybe 5 between Sano and someone else. Let's hope April, and the past couple of weeks, are for real.

Way to go Joe!

Who would have thought when Mauer is playing well like we all know he can, the Twins also win?  Good to see him playing well and great to see the Twins winning as a result.

Not sure what the confusion is all about. When he's the AL Player of the Week, it doesn't make much sense to post in the Raised Panic Level thread, does it? If he goes back to being 32nd in all of MLB first basemen in HRs, and 35th in RBIs (like he was - very recently), then it's very appropriate.

Then I'll need some time frames on how quickly I should switch back and forth. It's all happening so quickly.

It's all happening so quickly.

Sure is.

If he goes back, I'm going back to the other thread, and deservedly so. Until, that is, I receive a direct order not to discuss Joe Mauer when he's playing poorly.

also good to point out, he's been awesome defensively as well.  yeah, it's only 1B, but still.  Right now there are a precious few who are playing it better.
