zwiefz Verified Member Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I know he really didn't pan out for the Twins...but he always seemed like a nice guy with a great story. Would really like to believe this is just a mistaken result or an honest mistake, but have become too cynical with this stuff in baseball, especially when it comes to a fringe guy desperate to hang on. Just too bad.
old nurse Verified Member Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Colabello, 32, released a statement through the MLBPA: "On March 13, I got one of the scariest and most definitely the least expected phone calls of my entire life. I was informed by the Players’ Association that a banned substance was found in my urine. I have spent every waking moment since that day trying to find an answer as to why or how? The only thing I know is that I would never compromise the integrity of the game of baseball. I love this game too much! I care too deeply about it. I am saddened more for the impact this will have on my teammates, the organization and the fans of the Toronto Blue Jays. I hope that before anyone passes judgement on me they can take a look at the man that I am, and everything that I have done to get to where I am in my career.”
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Apparently this is the same type of drug that the East Germans were using in the '60's. Does that seem a little weird to anyone?

Just too bad.Yeah, I suppose some people accidentally use a PED (JC Romero seemed to have a good argument, IIRC) but I think most use it knowingly.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I really doubt Colabello knowingly used it. It's just a shame.
RedBull34 Verified Member Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Cynical maybe, but I'm betting him realizing the difference in paycheck (even at minimum) between the minors and the majors may have caused him to think "What are some ways I can stay in the majors?" Answer: PED's.

Those last 4 syllables are probably the damning ones.

That is how "nice stories" get tainted. Glad he did not taste positive when with the Twins or took the spot of a clean player.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I'm not a pro baseball player, but it's difficult for me to imagine a way that a banned PED could get into someone's urine by accident.

Just too bad. Reusse said he wasn't liked by teammates because of his arrogant attitude. His press release was pretty weak all around. No idea how this happened, wouldn't tarnish the game I love, more upset for my teammates.

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I love organic chemistry nomenclature That's its abbreviated name. It's full systemic name is: (8R,9S,10R,13S,14S,17S)-4-chloro-17-hydroxy-10,13,17-trimethyl-7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16-octahydro-6H-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-3-one

I always get that and (8R,9S,10R,13S,14S,17R)-17-hydroxy-10,13-dimethyl-17-(trideuteriomethyl)-7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16-octahydro-6H-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-3-one mixed up.
