That was an insane trade for Miller.

Hence why I think they deal him.....and I think it makes more sense if you also get Lucroy, and you are really all in.......I feel bad for CLE a bit.

Given his contract and performance, I think Miller is a pretty insanely valuable asset though too.  He's probably more valuable than Kimbrel was when he fetched a great haul from the Red Sox.  And he's got a decent shot at being just as valuable as Chapman in two years, which still netted the Yankees a #30 ish overall prospect.

I think they could fall back on dealing Miller again.  Like, say, if they fall out of the race in 2017 or 2018, or if they get blown away by an offer in the meantime.  But not sure that dealing him is the plan, at this point.

It does seem like their catching situation for the rest of 2016 is untenable.  They had to know they were on Lucroy's no-trade list -- I wonder what they expected he would demand in return for it?  Would be interesting to know if they offered him cash...

I thought I read that Lucroy vetoed the deal because the Indians wouldn't guarantee he'd be the FT starting C next season, no?

I read the same, Van. A report that the Indians told him he would backup Gomes in 2017 which seems almost too crazy to be true. It would be his contract season for cripes sakes.

MLBTR says Gallo would be on the table if the Brewers included an arm w/ Lucroy.

I wonder if the Brewers would be willing to send Lucroy + a bullpen arm for Buxton (or Buxton + 10-25 level prospect).

Man, that's an offer that makes me stop and think about.

Lucroy + Will Smith for Buxton + 10-25 level prospect is very tempting....

I don't think it was "backup" Gomes, but he would split time at C, 1B, and DH.  Which is an entirely reasonable plan.

And there were additional reports about Lucroy asking that the option be voided.

I suspect that perhaps Lucroy used the catcher playing time issue as a justification for requesting the option to be voided, but that he probably would have requested the same regardless.  (There would be no way to contractually guarantee his playing time anyway, except to perhaps add a huge incentive clause for games played away from catcher that the Indians would then try to avoid, but I've never heard of anything like that!)

I am pretty sure they mean that Gallo would be part of a package of good prospects from Texas, not the only good prospect coming from Texas.  They have 3 other guys in MLB's current top 100, plus another (Dillon Tate) that just dropped off.

There's no way I'd do that. One year of Lucroy for 6 years of Buxton isn't even a consideration.

Puig will be optioned to AAA tomorrow, kinda crazy.

I must have missed it in all the trades but who are the starters in the Dodgers OF now?  I see Howie Kendrick is listed as their LFer on B-R.

They acquired Josh Reddick yesterday to take over RF.

Detroit has a 46% chance at the playoffs (FG)....and did nothing. They must have NOTHING left in the minors to trade?

They expect JD Martinez, Jordan Zimmermann, and Daniel Norris back soon, so they don't really have a ton of areas to address.  Maybe a bullpen arm?  Although they could demote a couple SP to the pen when Zimmermann and Norris return, or pick up a waiver guy in August.

Congrats to Ichiro!!!!  Newest member of the 3000 hit club.  Did it with a triple.  Just like our current manager did!

Went to two consecutive Marlins games hoping to see that. Mattingly sat him for the last game of the homestand because a lefty was pitching; they're actually in a wild card chase so I guess this displays some integrity, rather than just cater to attendance or whatever.

Prince Fielder is expected to retire. It's too bad injuries took away so much time for such a great hitter. He'll finish with 1645 hits and 319 HRs and a line of .283/.382/.506 (.887).

This should give the Rangers a whole lot of money to spend now.
