Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I don't know if I'll go see this, or not. I have very, very, low expectations. Superman is boring. Really boring. So, let me know, once you see it, if it is any good, thanks,
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 When I first heard about this movie, I was like: Wha?
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I'm glad to hear someone else finds Superman oppressingly boring. I love Batman, but that's not enough to get me to go see this. I'll give my money to movies I think are trying to tell a good story like Cap Civil War or Xmen Apocalypse.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I'm more interested in Monday's upcoming crossover episode of Supergirl and The Flash.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 I'm told I have to watch daredevil. Once we finish the "new season" of xfiles next week, I'll start that series.

It took a relatively uninteresting character (for me), spliced him with some batman themes, and combined some excellent acting and story telling into an excellent show. I think you'll like it.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Yes, you do. It took a relatively uninteresting character (for me), spliced him with some batman themesActually, the DD show isn't doing anything new with the character. It's pulling directly from Frank Miller's 1979-1984(ish) run, which established the modern version of Daredevil we think of today. Miller then later went to work on Batman and reestablished many of the tones we (again) associate with Batman (such as DKR, the book this abomination of a movie is loosely based upon... He also wrote Year One, Batman's "definitive" origin story). But he did it on Daredevil first.

Daredevil was also the origin of the Purple Man (Killgrave), though the character was left largely untapped until Bendis put life into the character in Alias. Daredevil actually has a pretty long, rich history of stories once you get past the laughfest that was the first 20-30 issues of the book (which were absolutely hilarious... Stilt Man? Are you ****ting me?).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 Currently looking for someone to borrow sandman from.....so far, no takers on FB among my friends.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I'm miffed by the concept of this movie almost as much as I'm miffed about the buildup for it. I just don't get it on any level.

I read most of my comics on an iPad nowadays anyway.

Season Three has got to give us Bullseye, right?

Then again, pretty much everyone pales in comparison to Batman for supporting cast.

Haven't finished season two yet but Bullseye plays a *key* role in DD lore that I don't believe the show has tapped yet... I'll skip spoilers for those of you not familiar with the book.

DD has many stories that rival Batman and I'm saying that as a giant Batman knob. Batman has a fabulous supporting cast, though. Maaaaaybe the Fantastic Four rival him? FF has amazing villains. It's too bad the movies have been unwatchable.

I'll grant that Daredevil's group is far better than pretty much any of the Avengers, so he's got that going for him.

One of Marvel's few missteps thus far.

One of Marvel's few missteps thus far.I kind of thought by having The Mandarin a fraud, they kind of left the door open for there to be a real guy behind the charade, perhaps behind Killian as well if it helps the writers. But the character is a bit delicate ethnically, and maybe is best left alone in a world where Asia provides huge boosts to blockbuster films.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 You should find and watch the Marvel One-Shot called "All Hail the King." Here's the opening.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Still made a pile of money... "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shattered box office records, opening to an estimated $170.1 million domestically over Easter weekend. Not only did Zack Snyder’s superhero epic set a new record for the all-time biggest March opening, obliterating The Hunger Games’ $152.5 million, but Batman v Superman now stands as the sixth biggest opening of all time. It also squeaked by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($169.2 million) to earn Warner Bros.’ biggest opening ever."
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I do expect Cap:Civil War to mop the floor with this, and it will be getting some of my money too.

I'm skipping the Batman v Superman thing ... does not appeal, at all. I think I'll be seeing 'Hello, My Name Is Doris' instead.

I guess I won't be seeing any first run movies until the next recession.
