Nerds are something entirely different. If you want to argue the benefits of PHP vs .NET or string theory, that's a straight up nerd fight.Geeks are fans. Nerds are smart. I actually knew you were going to post this.....I am well aware of the delta.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I actually knew you were going to post this.....I am well aware of the delta.WELL THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE POSTED IT Finished Daredevil over the weekend. They made my love the Punisher. Tip of the cap to the creators. I'm not going to see BvS until it hits the cheap theatres. I can't give $10+ to see this movie.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Once we finish the x files tonight or tomorrow (last day this year's special is free on the fox now app)....I'm going to push for Daredevil. BTW, while my wife was out of town, I watched Knights of Badassdom.....I was surprised at the quality of the cast, I had pictured it as a cheap indie thing. First half was great at mocking LARP (and related activities), second half was comic book gore and not as fun.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Seems like there's a significant delta between the critic's reviews and the average joe's reviews. I'm sure that's normally the case but I'm surprised this movie is almost unanimously disliked by the critics, and loved by the average audience. Maybe it's just the fan boys/girls of anything Marvel that I'm reading on Rotten Tomatoes, and it'll start evening out in the next couple of weeks. This probably is a movie that's better in the theater than your living room. Like others, the premise of this movie does nothing for me.
SweetOne69 Verified Member Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 The movie was okay. Not only did it take to long to set-up for the big confrontation, there were many leaps of faith to get there.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I saw this flick today and I was actually pretty impressed, it had it's issues, but then again so does every super hero movie (sans Guardians and Deadpool)I'd rather watch this then the terribly boring Avengers flicks or another X-Men snoozefest.

Interesting, thanks. Maybe we'll go after all.....still need to see deadpool.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Interesting, thanks. Maybe we'll go after all.....still need to see deadpool.Deadpool is amazing. In re: to Batman v Superman, I'm sure there will be people who disagree and find the faults to be too much to overcome, but I liked it overall and it's a good set up for future movies. This is also coming from someone who is NOT a Snyder fan as I think 300 was one of the worst movies ever (the gross anti Iranian racism non withstanding), and he ruined Watchmen.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I loved WatchmenOverall I don't mind the movie (on it's own) I just think it could have been so, so, so much more since the source material is pretty much perfect IMO.I think Snyder missed a few key points from the original Graphic Novel, not the least of which being the violence aspects of it. I still hold out hope that someone does Watchmen correct. I am thinking a 6-8 part miniseries on HBO.

Watchmen was a decent movie IMO but massively flawed just like all of Snyder's films. Lots of good parts, lots of bad parts.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Saw BvS last night. It's the most frustrating movie I've seen in a long, long time. Some parts are *great* and suck you into the world...Then Batman has a flashback. Or Wonder Woman looks at a computer screen for five minutes. Or Lois and Clark have an awkward encounter. Or Lex Luthor does... something truly inexplicable. It's the most badly-paced movie I've seen in years. Every time it builds even a tiny bit of momentum, Snyder changes gears and tears you out of the movie. He's not good enough at storytelling to juggle this many pieces at once. The movie is too busy. And over half the characters are just wrong. Lex Luthor's approach is nonsensical. Superman literally has *zero* motivation to fight Batman. Wonder Woman is just hanging around because apparently that's what really old people do in a crisis. The characters don't have believable motivations, which leads to a bunch of "this happened, then that happened, now this happens" scenes. But the movie does *just enough* right to make you want to like it. Then it pulls the rug out from under you. Over and over and over again.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 But seeing Wonder Woman draw a sword and fly into battle was ****ing awesome. It was the one part of the movie I genuinely enjoyed without a lick of hesitation. Gal Gadot was a much better casting choice than I expected. She's still too damned skinny but, eh, it's Hollywood.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 On a final note, a good 50% of this film, maybe even more than that, doesn't make a lick of sense. It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't seen the movie. There are literally dozens of chances from every character in the film to use some common sense, speak at the right time, and avoid catastrophe. Yet they march forward and do whatever it takes to ensure carnage because character motivations and solid, consistent storytelling should never get in the way of seeing hundreds of people die a horrible, violent death. I can't get over just how bizarre the flashbacks became as the movie progressed. There's an appearance by The Flash - who apparently travels back in time to tell Bruce "don't trust anyone" - but can't be bothered to stick around long enough to explain anything more than that. Instead, to move the carnage forward, he repeats how Bruce shouldn't trust anyone multiple times without actually telling him anything useful. I hope his time travel machine was free because that is some seriously ****ty use of amazing technology. It's just ****ing weird, man. Every time you start enjoying the film, there's a huge WTF moment that just leaves you baffled at what you're watching on-screen.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 I hate that in movies and tv shows....someone knows something, but instead of just telling them the SUPER IMPORTANT THING, they tell them they know something.......it's just stupid.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I hate that in movies and tv shows....someone knows something, but instead of just telling them the SUPER IMPORTANT THING, they tell them they know something.......it's just stupid. There's a key moment in the film where Superman *finally* realizes he has absolutely no reason to fight Batman. He starts to talk and... ...instead punches Batman in the face. That was my biggest "**** YOU ZACK SNYDER" moment of the movie because, after being beaten down for a full two hours, he dangled a carrot in front of me and then punched me in the nuts when I reached for it. And that's really the best way to describe the film. You *want* to like it. There are some bloody amazing scenes (Luthor and Supes on the roof of a skyscraper, the Wonder Woman intro) but every time you get into that groove, Synder rips you out of it and slows down the movie by offering up truly bizarre scenes that make no sense in the context of anything. Every. Single. Time. He does it over and over again. It's infuriating. Never mind that there is basically zero "superheroing" for the first one and a half hours of the film. God, this movie pissed me off.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 It sounds like I made the right choice to go see 'Hello, My Name Is Doris' instead.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Lex Luthor's "plan" in this film is akin to Luke Skywalker's "plan" in Jabba's Palace in RotJ.A good "plan" does not consist of five failure points before you can execute the end game.If you turn your brain off, it works. If you think about for even a moment, you want to scream "WHAT THE **** IS HAPPENING ON SCREEN".
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Sounds like last weeks episode of The Walking Dead. It's totally reasonable during a war with another faction to randomly wander out of your fortress to do stuff and some things. Totally reasonable. *Slaps forehead* Talk about another show that just can't get out of it's own way.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Somewhat unrelated: The actress who plays Wonder Woman is an absolute smoke show. I guess that part helped distract me a bit from the pacing.

She looked the part and yeah, she's really easy on the eyes.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 Maybe they should have done an actual WW movie.......I don't know, that's just me.

I have always thought that Superman is a pretty boring character anyways, so the fact that this movie actually humanized him a little bit was a big plus in my eyes.

He's DC's Captain America: he's the best in us, a shining beacon of hope. Take that away and he's no longer Superman. That's my problem with Snyder's Superman... He's not actually Superman. He's just a dude who kinda looks like Superman with the color saturation turned waaaaayyy down. Superman smiled once in the film. It's right before he smashed a terrorist through a wall and killed him. That's not ****ing Superman.
