ESPN reports that there is a 4th team in the Jose Fernandez sweepstakes... As you saw the Twins were very good at staying below the radar with Byung Ho Park. Could we see TR make a big move still?

ESPN thinks that the Yankees would have to center a trade around Aaron Judge, MLB.com's 17th rated MLB prospect. If that holds up, a trade for Fernandez would likely have to center a big piece such as Jose Berrios or Max Kepler along with other pieces..

Would you deal Berrios, perhaps Polanco and one more top 20ish prospect for Fernandez?

Or what about Kepler, Polanco, Stewart?

It would have to start with Berrios+Kepler+ another top prospect  (Gordon, Stewart) etc

But yes, I would do that in a heartbeat.

I would give them Buxton for him straight up in a heartbeat as well. But that prob isn't enough.

They wanted Seager and Urias from LAD. So, is everyone going to be mad if we give up Buxton and Kepler and some other stuff to get him?

we all know that know one on Earth would give up that for a few years of Fernandez.. even centering it around one of those 2 guys(Urias/Seager) would be tough. I would do Buxton if it was Buxton and a top 15 for Fernandez though for sure.

Based on the names I heard thrown out the other day... I think it would be at least Berrios and Kepler plus something to get Fernandez... Maybe worth it? I heard they wanted a couple MLB ready guys in addition to prospects.

Berrios, Kepler, and their pick of any two current Twins 25 man players not named Sano or Buxton might work.

Dozier and Hughes? Fine. Plouffe and Perkins? No problem. Rosario and Gibson? Sure why not.

.... but they gotta agree to take Nolasco back too.

Dozier, Hughes, Plouffe, Perkins, etc don't have any real value for the Marlins as they are all just a couple years away from FA.

Rosario+ May+Meyer could draw some interest back as all have plenty of team control left.

Berrios+Kepler+Stewart+Rosario seems like a good starting point.

Yep, Jose Fernandez is the guy I would pony up our assets to acquire. There's very little I would have a problem with as far as the price, unless it's completely outlandish such as Sano + Buxton.

The proposals above sound decent to me. Obviously if the Twins can drum up a package without including both Berrios and Kepler, even better.

Perhaps Kepler+Gordon+Jay+ someone in the 15-20 org ranks

you're way over evaluating it..

This sounds like something the Marlins would ask for, but I agree that this seems like too much.  I'd offer Berrios, Rosario, Polanco, and a lower level prospect.

I'd rather give Buxton than Berrios. Including JO would defeat the purpose of this trade. Fernandez for Berrios makes the rotation better, to be sure. But, I would rather have deep, strong top of the rotation.

ESPN is guessing based on Rumors the 4th mystery team is Houston.  Would they give up Correa for Fernandez?  My guess is no way, but . . .

I don't see the Marlins trading him.  Why would they?  He is 23, an Ace, is from Tampa via Cuba, and has 4 more years of team control.  In 2-3 years, I totally expect the Marlins to trade him so they don't have to pay him.  But why now?  Wouldn't his value be higher in a year or 2 anyways after a team saw him play a season + of post Tommy John surgery.

Then again, they are the Marlins . . .

I think you just answered your own question :)

I wouldn't rule out any scenario when it comes to the worst run organization in the MLB, maybe all of sports.

Fangraphs has an article out there some of you will appreciate, and some will hate on his value.....

Well, yeah. We all hate his value, for different reasons.

Is Fernandez worth Berrios, Kepler, Rosario, and Gibson? Maybe so. Should any team actually do a deal like that? Probably not. That's how I read it, is that how you read it? just curious

My lord would I love to trade with you.  Why not throw in Target Field while you're at it?

Yeah, I can't see any team coughing up that much. Berrios and Kepler is too much to make sense, and I'm a "prospects are always overrated" kind of guy.

Miami is free to demand anything. What they might actually get is different.

Fernandez to Boston.  Dombrowski seems to always fleece Miami for players without really giving up much. 28 other clubs will go WTF and fans everywhere will be mad at their front offices for not making a deal.

Really? Kepler is a 1st base RF type who while is a nice prospect doesn't project to be a .330 hitter or hit 30+ HR.

Berrios is a nice prospect, but his height leads many to believe he is closer to a #3 then a number one.

Rosario is a league average CF and Stewart is a lottery ticket.

FWIW: The Twins got a much better package (at the time) for Santana who had only one year remaining under team control, Fernandez has 3

I agree, I think the only player that Houston would trade Carlos Correa for is Mike Trout.

What is with so many people being so low (relatively speaking) on Buxton? A bunch of fluke injuries and a struggle in his first taste of the MLB shouldn't change your opinions this much. There's a reason he was a consensus preseason top-3 prospect- and should be consensus #1 this year still.

I would give up Buxton straight up for Fernandez, but to say you would rather give up Buxton instead of Berrios is just perplexing, I'm not so sure it's people are so down on Buxton as it's people are just assuming Berrios is some future ace, which is setting expectations way too high IMO.

I don't think I would make that trade.

You might be right about Berrios being a bit overvalued due to us fans starving for someone to become a true ace, which is something that I'm guilty of. There's definitely the possibility that it could happen though.

If I'm Houston, there are very few people I would trade Correa for.
