Having had to put down a loved pet too young already and coming back from the specter of possibly having to do it again, I hope you will understand that I don't like this.

Don't take offense Craig. It's all tongue in cheek. It went with the dog theme today that presented itself earlier in this game thread.

I am sorry for your loss.

It's obvious he is banged up, but this scenario was one a lot of people were concerned about. We were witnesses to watching youth abruptly fading into old age. I just turned 40 too this summer and I don't type as fast anymore. I started eating prunes. I watch squirrels do their thing watching from my window for hours a day. It sucks.

I'm 56. Now the squirrels watch me, and eat my prunes when I'm not looking. In the distance I see vultures circling, or maybe that's just flies... I waved my hand and they're still there. Vultures.

Your uplifting words have given me something to look forward to in the years to come. :)

This is our dog Lady. She was the best dog ever. My mom would send us kids outside to play and tell Lady to watch us, and she would. If we left our yard, she tried to herd us back in, and if we didn't obey she barked until someone looked out the window and saw what we were up to. She barked at the shady looking teenage kids who hid behind the bushes and stared into our yard. She began to get old about the same time I was beginning to put on the speed myself, so we would play together a lot. When I went inside, she would go wait by the door for me to come back outside and play with her again.

I took that picture a month before she passed away. It was one of the first times I was ever allowed to use a camera, and there is no picture I've ever taken that is more precious to me. She was just shy of 15, and her health was deteriorating rapidly. My parents made the decision to have her put to sleep. I was broken ... I couldn't sleep and I don't know if anyone else could either. I was 11 at the time. Life wasn't easy anyway, and losing my best friend didn't make it any easier. I hated my parents, but that was unfair since I'm sure the decision was killing them, too. They truly believed that it was the right thing at the time. Now we're all haunted by the guilt that maybe the decision was too hasty, maybe we could have helped her longer.

The day Lady died I was hysterical. That night there was a huge thunderstorm and lightening struck something in the catholic church that is kitty corner to the back of our house. I don't know what happened exactly, but it somehow messed up the power and set the bells ringing. Some churches ring the bells for funerals for a few minutes. That night the bells rang for 45 minutes. They were never fixed. They no longer ring for each church service, nor at 6 in the morning and 6 in the night. But they rang for Lady. Call it karma or whatever you want, but it helped a little in a strange sort of way. I will never forget that night.

Lady was the best dog I could ever ask for. She will never be replaced.

Achter has a good straight change up. He should throw it a lot more often. There was a closer here in San Diego named Trevor Hoffman who earned a living with a good straight change.

BCBU (belated CBU)

Astros of Houston are leading the Twins of Minnesota seven runs to no runs going into the bottom the 8th.

Er, premature.

It was a pitching change, not the end of the inning.

Come on Joe (and those who follow) prove me wrong!

Just got a break at work, so catching up on the game that I so luckily missed.  Actually, it's OK, I have no hair left to tear out, anyway.

I do see from the box that 'Gulfa' Tonkin had a Snapper Mow-Em-Down inning.  Seems like the grass got a little long in between cuts, tho....

Oh, how we all miss Small Sample Size Super-Pelf from earlier this year.  He seems to show up about every 3rd or 4th start, and give everyone hope again, then he descends back to Big Sample Size Regular-Pelf.  Oh, well.

Was at game. It sucked. CBU.

I'm only "liking" this in sympathy.  Wow, a double whammy.  1)  a sucky game.   2)  You're in Houston for some reason.
