DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Molly gets himself tossed, 4 run lead at the time, yanks get all the momentum. I get trying to light a fire from time to time, but good lord, that is the worst time to get yourself ran from a game.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 What's the point of Dave being allowed to...... Eh, you all know what I'm going to say.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 What's the point of Dave being allowed to...... Eh, you all know what I'm going to say. not sure how that's on topic, but I would love to hear your defense of his actions.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 There needn't be one. He was sticking up for Hicks and telling the home plate umpire what he should have done. And he was right. Especially since this is the same ump we had an earlier issue with Hunter. That and his ejection had nothing to do with Hicks crappy read on a line drive or Escobar bumbling a play. Or the closer you keep telling us is a guarantee to win blowing the game.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 Escobar never should have been playing 3rd to begin with, he sucks in the field. What is the point of having Sano on the major league team if you refuse to ever play him at 3rd?

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Gardy did this all the time. Molitor's ejection didn't affect the fact that we blew a 5-0 lead and gave up 8 runs.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 So...you abandon your earlier nonsense to shift gears? Is that what I am to take from this response? what shifting? It's a prime example of another terrible decision by Molitor.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 As someone who has known you for a long time Dave, let me just express how embarrassing this is for you. Your points are constantly all over the map and ridiculous. I'm sure there is somewhere more fitting for this quality of posting - like the Strib user comments or something.

But, ...Hicks didn't check his swing.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Okay, this thread has gone downhill fast. You two can express yourselves in private. Levi, ignore it. Dave, dial it back a bit.

But, ...Hicks didn't check his swing. Hicks definitely went. Joe West was the ump that had the same issue earlier in the year when Hunter lost it. Molitor shouldn't even be in that position, home plate umpires should always check down to the umps down the corners. He was right to tell him to check down on a close call.

Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The home plate umpire should always check but especially in a bases loaded situation.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 The home plate umpire should always check but especially in a bases loaded situation.Only if he doesn't see, regardless it was the right call regarding Hicks.
Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Only if he doesn't see, regardless it was the right call regarding Hicks. It should just be mandatory during any disputed swing.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 It should just be mandatory during any disputed swing. I agree, but it isn't. The home plate ump makes those calls quite a bit.
Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I agree, but it isn't. The home plate ump makes those calls quite a bit. You're right and I do agree that Molitor should have walked away. Right or not arguing balls and strikes is a lose-lose situation.

Right or not arguing balls and strikes is a lose-lose situation.Yeah, I mean I get it if your team is struggling, getting their butt kicked etc and you wanna "change the mood" but the Twins were on fire prior to that. I think it showed a bit of panic and the Twins acted accordingly there after: Escobars misplay, hicks misplay, the bats disappearing etc. and all of the momentum switched to the Yanks from there on. Milone should have been pulled after the A Rod bomb, but with molly out it was up to Vavra, ditto with the absurd refusal to PH for anyone in the 8th. Again no reason whatsoever for Molly to get ran there.

You're gonna toss and turn all night. lol, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, no do I ever (the Vikings NFC championship chokes are the exceptions).I just hate seeing our favorite 9 lose such winnable games like this. The entire tide of the game changed once Molly got ran.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Not Molitor, but I will say the lack of pinch hitters in the 8th was a pretty odd managerial non-move. One other lesson to take might be, if you get six good innings from Milone, he gives up a lead off base runner in the 7th, no reason to try getting him through the middle of a power laden lineup one more time.
mickeymental Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Not Molitor, but I will say the lack of pinch hitters in the 8th was a pretty odd managerial non-move.managers who get booted go to the clubhouse, not an isolation chamber. it was odd and it was molitor.
Whammy Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The thing that confused me the most was batting our inferior players in the 8th then "defensive substituting" in the 9th with better hitters. I assume this was covered in the game thread but it's too painful for me to look through.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 managers who get booted go to the clubhouse, not an isolation chamber. it was odd and it was molitor.Maybe so. Hard to say, you may be right.Either way...odd to say the least.
blairpaul715 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 If the implication is that Molitor getting tossed lost us the game, that is pure nonsense, now as to whether he swung or not, i believe he did, but it was certainly close and most certain too close for the plate umpire to call........plate umpire while watching ball has a hard time telling most of the time how far the bat goes.........but it is not exactly an easy call for the corner umpires either.
Highabove Provisional Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 It was obvious that Molitor was sticking for Hicks. Players have to know that the Manager has their back.
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Dave, do you ever find a reason not to blame Molly for a loss? They had a 5-0 lead, one of the best sluggers of all time hits 3 homers, Perkins blows his 2nd of 32 save opportunities. It happens. Does it sting? Yes. But it happens.
