Like, a sacrifice fly is cool, but a ground out that drives in a run is not cool......why?

because home runs are cool? So, uh, almost home runs are almost as cool as that?

I think Sac Flies should just be Fly Outs. If a guy scores, sure have an RBI. but it should negatively impact a batting average the same as any other fly ball out.

The official rules are sometimes a little funky because of how many times they have been modified. It used to be an out if a guy caught the ball on the first bounce. There used to be no limit to the number of balls in an at bat (no walks)... Stats like sac fly vs. sac hit are one of those odd little things that came out of making up the rules as they went along.

I bet if the rule changed now, agents or players or the MLBPA would resist it on the grounds that it would negatively affect free agent stock....

I was in Chicago all of last weekend so this will be the first time I can sit down and watch Sano.

Wouldn't be a bad night for career homer #1 of 800.

Don't tell me you were at the Dead concert ...

Nah. It's a game thread. Almost anything goes. Baseball talk, good. Once lineups are posted and game time is near, it'll redirect on its own.

Oh, OK, cool!

A major league baseball has 108 stitches.

The Twins once recorded a 7-6-7 putout.

There has been only one major league player in history whose first name was Harmon, and there has been only one major league player in history whose last name was Killebrew.

You know a pitcher is other wordly when he has an ERA+ that has 4 digits.  Wade Davis, ERA+ of 1591.

That is a ridiculous number.

I think because then it become's a fielder's choice.  If the 2nd baseman throws home and gets the runner it's an out, but if he goes to 1st and allows the run to score, it's an RBI groundout.  A sac fly is usually a fly deep enough into the OF, where the outfielder doesn't have a play, hence the run scores.  Or just how I see it.

Nope, just seemed like a good long weekend to make the drive down. Caught a game at Wrigley and ate italian beef, Chicago dogs, and deep dish until I couldn't move so it was pretty typical in that regard.

We saw plenty of deadheads though.

Yes.

Up to you and how your memory is.

Food thoughts are always good.

There are two types of hits - Base hits and Sacrifice Hits.

Base hits require the batter to reach safely. Sacrifice Hits require the runner(s) already on base to advance. If the batter makes contact with the ball and is out and the runners do not advance, it is not a hit of any kind.

What is a sacrifice? I just hope for productive outs.

Should we specify between board and pen?

I was thinking the alabama song adequately represents how dramatically some people take things.

And even the second verse works, if "little girl" is a euphemism for top prospect.

Not having seen the name in writing as often, i think i thought they were the almond brothers...

Back in grade school, I was almost suicidal, if not homicidal, every time they played Summer Breeze on the radio. The first tune that air-time made me hate.

Twins win 12-2. Sano with 2 HR. Dozier with one. Mauer 3 hits.

Book it.

I got that feeling from Peter Frampton and Sheena Easton. And maybe sometimes the BeeGees.
