Game Thread: Twins @ Reds, 7/1, 11:30 AM CDT

Not close. Can't blame Escobar. He can't hit a ball there. I would have been upset if he chased.

[USAFChief]

Can't afford to get further behind.  We're down to three outs, tops, as it is.  Don't like their chances against Chapman.

[D. Hocking]

So I got some bad news recently.  A good friend's wife passed away.  Her name was Lorraine, and she was a jewel.  Talking with some other friends, it gets even worse...turns out my friend was cheating on her, with a stripper named Clearly.

So I go to the funeral, and my friend gets up to pay his last respects to his wife.  The cad finishes up with "I can see Clearly now, Lorraine is gone."

Busy at work today so this is the first chance I have had to look at the game thread -- saw this post and thought -- you I am fairly busy today, I could probably be using my time in a wiser fashion.

My condolences on Lorraine.

[stringer bell]

No! Not a lefty.

Molitor should have made a double switch.

[LaBombo]

Is it just me, or does Slidin' Billy Hamilton look, play, and most of all sound like a deranged Oompa Loompa under the influence of a near-fatal dose of illegal stimulants?

Ok, so it's just me.   Except for the sound part.    Listen to some post-game Billy on youtube if you don't believe me.

[stringer bell]

OK, the double switch is happening now. I would have gone Mauer for Vargas.

[Cap'n Piranha]

What exactly is the thought process that drives someone who has Mauer and Hunter available to pinch hit to say, "I know!  Let's have Kurt Suzuki pinch hit lead off instead!"

[Hosken Bombo Disco]

Does Joe or Torii get the first crack at pinch hitting this game in the pitcher's spot?

Oooh. Sorry. The answer we were looking for was Kurt Suzuki. (via a double switch)

Thanks for playing, and we have some nice parting gifts for you.

Herrmann has been that bad today?

[sampleSizeOfOne]

Herrmann has been that bad today?

No. He's just more recent an out than Vargas?

Probably they wanted Suzuki to catch Graham, when all is said and done.

[Kirby_waved_at_me]

Molitor must think Suzuki has a better chance of getting on base than J.R. Graham.

Graham hit .417 in 2014 for the Braves AA team... (small sample size!)

[Kirby_waved_at_me]

bummer, Dozier was a tough out right there. Nice AB, not so nice result.

[stringer bell]

Send him!

[USAFChief]

Bremergasm.

[stringer bell]

Come on Bremer!

[Hosken Bombo Disco]

Broadcasters are ALWAYS better off if they UNDERSTATE the play. Always.

Hard to overstate how true that is

[Kirby_waved_at_me]

OFF TOPIC: You know who was a good bunter? Paul Molitor.

46 career bunt singles, 20 successful sacrifices, in a total of 86 plate appearances. (His batting average on bunts was .727, with 13 RBI

ALSO OFF TOPIC:

Meanwhile, in Canada, The Blue Jays are celebrating Canada Day by crushing the Red Sox.

ON TOPIC:

Shane Robinson's elbow injury... how bad is it?

[LaBombo]

Bremer's perfection of overreaction could have rendered Armstrong's first foot on the moon anti-climactic.

It's still attached to Shane Robinson, making it a replacement-level elbow...

[Cap'n Piranha]

For those of us at work and therefore consigned to Provus and Gladden, what did Dick do this time?

[Hosken Bombo Disco]

Mauer or Hunter figures to bat fourth this inning if we get a base runner.

[Danchat]

Shane Robinson hurt his elbow? Well, I betcha he goes straight onto the 15 day DL and then we activate Hicks.

Bremer's perfection of overreaction could have rendered Armstrong's first foot on the moon anti-climactic.

I'm trying to imagine how now...

"Holy smokes! A huge leap for mankind? Oh wait, no. Just a small step for Neil Armstrong. He got under it a little bit."

[Craig Arko]

Pete Conrad - "Whoopie! Man, that may have been a small one for Neil, but that's a long one for me."

[Cap'n Piranha]

So Hunter is going to bat for Vargas, and Mauer will likely bat 3rd.  If we score 1, who plays 1st in the bottom of the 9th?  Do we have to do another double switch, which will have the effect of moving the pitcher spot up 1, and therefore is a non-sensical move?  Why not have Joe bat for Kennys?

Never mind this entire flawed post

I see Paul M just realized what he was doing.    Question withdrawn.

Now that ya mention it, i actually remember that from the HBO "From the Earth to the Moon" series...

(My favorite episode was the dead cat one)

[SwainZag]

Good god Chapman is nasty

[Kirby_waved_at_me]

Molitor saved Kennys the embarrassment of having to face Chapman there
