For those of us at work and therefore consigned to Provus and Gladden, what did Dick do this time?

 

The ball left the bat of Rosario in no particular hurry, and to no one's surprise but Bremer's, ended up in the glove of Reds right fielder Jay Bruce without testing his range, which normally comes with a name like Whirlpool or Fridgidaire attached to it.

 

But somewhere near the apogee of the routine fly ball, for Bremer it became a potential home run off the bat of Ted Williams that could have put the Red Sox in the playoffs and Williams over .400 on the final day of the season

Very disgusted with the Twins decision making that leads to a lineup like today.  

 

Either do something to put out a major league lineup, or can it and play for the future.  One or the other.

He pitched fairly well today.  Those two runs really weren't his fault at all.  He showed the ability to pitch out of some jams, and forget about the previous outing.  This shouldn't cost him his job.

The runs were the direct result of a WP and bases on balls.  Those are indeed his fault, IMO.

The second run was the direct result of him not throwing an obvious 4th ball (ensuring Herrmann would not have made a throw), and then Herrmann making a terrible throw.  It was in no way that makes any modicum of sense Trevor May's fault.  In reality, I feel like there should be a rule change disallowing the lead runner to advance a base on a walk when there is a throwing error to the base they are going to.

Well, in his comments about the current and impending shakeups with the roster, Morris just gave a tentative vote of confidence to May.

 

But it's Morris, so his vote for May, the leader of the current Twins rotation in FIP, xFIP, and K/9, was tempered with the understanding that he stay in the rotation to 'work though his problems there instead of the bullpen'.  Good grief.

Well, that's also a fair assessment.

 

I guess I should have said that it wasn't completely his fault today.  He did walk guys, which was on him.  I didn't see the wild pitch, but I have a feeling it was something that a more competent catcher would have stopped.  

 

The throwing error trying to throw out a running advancing to the next base on a walk... that's on Herrmann.  

 

Either way, if a pitcher goes 6.1 innings and only gives up 2 runs, that's a decent game.  Especially when it comes with 6 strike outs as well.  

 

I agree with you on this one too, Chief.  This loss belongs to the offense.

Yes... No... I don't know.  I do know that this is a very bad scenario.

The bad news is we lost. The good news is we lost. Because otherwise nothing of significance will be down to turn over this roster. There are too many holes in it. The, what I consider, odd winning streak in the beginning of the year derailed that process. It's a shame to consider you might have to play for next year, but that really seems like the reality of the situation.
