Tonkin Optioned. Who Replaces Him? It's Meyer!

I am guessing Kepler will come up for the cup of coffee in NL parks, and they will option him to Rochester when the time comes.

I would love this but the playing time might be too limited in the NL parks. Though I wouldn't be opposed to him starting a couple games. But it would be very similar to what the Cubs did with Schwarber, however, announcing it was just a callup for the AL parks with the DH. (And that guy killed us when the Cubs came to Target Field)

Meyer only went 0.2 tonight. Maybe it was done so that he's available for the big club on Friday.

Looks like almost all of the possible call ups got a few outs in. Maybe it was a final audition.

What's the opposite of being stretched out?

Is Meyer being tightened down?

9 pitches, 7 strikes. Get the plane ticket.

If that's the case, it looks like Oliveros and Thielbar failed to make the grade.

In the minor league transactions, it says Oliveros was suspended for hitting someone. Probably is appealing, but will have to serve the suspension. He isn't getting anyone out now anyway. He won't be recalled now.

So.....is there a reason no one is thinking Sano?  Plouffe scuffling.....definitely is an imposing pinch hitting bat.....

If Kepler is an idea for a cup of coffee on the NL trip, wouldn't Sano be in that discussion as well?

Sano should always be in the discussion, but Plouffe is coming out of his funk, I think. Hands down, Plouffe is a very good third baseman.

And then you've got Vargas starting to make better contact, so you want to keep giving him at bats too.

Mauer the odd man out? :)

He's going to be a conundrum

He being Mauer

He already completed his suspension.  Has been ineffective in 3 appearances since then.

Kepler would be a nice surprise. Even if it's only for a week or two.

I doubt it would be Arcia, his only value is his bat and no speed and bad defense.  If they bring up a bat it will be someone with some speed but I hope it's Meyer, this bullpen needs help.

The bullpen is fully rested, the Twins currently have four bench players (Herrmann, Escobar, Robinson, Vargas) ready to pinch hit or fill in and will have a rested starting rotation after the off day. They have two straight series in NL parks so it could be anyone. Santana is off the suspended list in 10 days, so whoever is called up could be returned.

And whoever is called up now might be switched out after the Reds for the KC series.

My guess is a position player, either D. Santana or Bernier, giving more positional flexibility in the NL parks.  Has Santana been down long enough to regain his stroke AND CONFIDENCE???  If the Twins don't think so then it will be Bernier.

A relief pitcher is only one call away if they end up on the losing side of a couple of blowouts.

I remember the days when a PH was a feared respected veteran who would cause trepidation in the opposition! Not uncontrollable giggling!

Hosken - Schwarber was 2 for 12 with 6 K's when he played against the Twins last weekend.  Not exactly my definition of "killing" us.  Besides he was able to play DH, which is not the case over the next week for the Twins as you point out.

Whoever gets called up now will probably be sent back down after the Milwaukee series as Hicks will come off the DL Monday.

Here comes Bernier again...

The more I think about it, the more I fear you are right.

They don't need a pitcher and they probably want to use whoever doesn't start out of Escobar and Nunez as a PH so they need another SS capable bench player. And couldn't be Santana obviously.

Makes sense. A middle infielder would give them the most flexibility.

I read somewhere that Hicks is not guaranteed a call-up after his rehab. I was about to start a separate thread entitled "Hicks or Buxton?" because it still looks like if Hicks is playing for the Twins it will be in center field.

Back on topic, I guess nothing would surprise me and a Bernier call-up won't enrage me. I guess, all in all, I most want to see Meyer because the bullpen is where the biggest problem is.

While I relish the idea of Rosario, Buxton, and Hicks in the OF, I don't see it happening this year.  Buxton is a force in CF. He can change a game.  Don't care about his 4K's yesterday. I'm willing to let him learn at the plate while he patrols the outfield.  Tori is not fast in right, but if he wants to play one more year, I would have him be a 4th OF and maybe do some DHing.  Joe...Joe...Joe...what to do about Joe?

glad to be corrected on the statistics.

I was thinking of the Sunday game when Schwarber had that late bases loaded knock which broke open the game, then earlier in the second inning when he was intentionally walked to set up a double play situation. Capped off by Kevin Gorg interviewing Schwarber for the Twins post game show, which apparently made the biggest impression on me.
