Mets looking for lefty reliever

The Twins are looking for a Lefty reliever too, and Duensing has been lights out this spring.  No hits ho walks, 3 strikeouts.  They can give them Thielbar for free, or close to it.

The Mets have a ton of great arms, starting and relieving.  Problem is, they're all right handed, pretty much.  Former Twins and Braves pitcher Sean Gilmartin may actually make their bullpen based solely on the fact that he throws with his left hand, over much, much better overall pitchers like Rafael Montero.  Interesting that Dario Alvarez isn't getting more play in New York.  That guy has ridiculous pitching ability for a lefty reliever type.

Duensing has pitched very well for the Twins, once they convinced him he's not really a starter. But, he has just turned 32 and that's about the age that you start wondering when a pitcher will start breaking down.  Glen Perkins also just turned 32.  See where I'm going here?

 

Package Perkins and Duensing and try to get one of the Mets higher level starters and another arm to be named later.

If by higher level you mean Matz/Syndergaard, you may have a future in comedy.  If by higher level, you mean the guys who start at AAA for the Mets (likely guys like Cory Mazzoni, Darin Gorski, or Matthew Bowman), you might have a chance to get them for Duensing and Perkins.

IMHO, Brian Duensing is the Twins' best lefty reliever.  If they think they can contend, they need to have him.  I'm not at all convinced on Thielbar.  I'd love to see a lefty, other than Perkins, who brings it up there faster than 92.  With Mason Melotakis out for this year, I don't know of a single lefty who thows hard in the upper minors.

Yeah, let that sink in.

 

Frankly, if they don't get both Matz and Syndergaard, they got ripped off. Brian Duensing is the key to making trades in the MLB.

I'm not a Duensing believer.....I'm still not sure why they kept him. Their reluctance to bring up young relievers continues to confuse this fan.

 

Give me one LHRP, not named Perkins, who is MLB-ready and better than Duensing right now.  One.

Sure, but do we agree that Duensing is the best MLB-ready reliever the Twins have not named Perkins?

 

(Btw, I would not mind seeing Perkins in a Duensing role, but that would require fast tracking Burdi & Reed for the late RHP roles...)

I don't know, and not sure I care.....we'll never know if the young guys are good if they sit in AAA until they prove they are awesome, or the Twins decide to move on from older players with no upside. Some teams rebuild in 18 months (WS), some take 4-7 years (some never succeed). I'd rather they take more chances on upside youth.

As long as there are lineups like the Indians and hitters like Arcia with huge platoon splits, I want a lefty or two in the 'pen, even if their platoon splits aren't that great.  Duensing seemed to wear down last year, but he was pretty good for the first three-quarters of the season.  Starters pitching deeper into games could help all the members of the bullpen.

If by WS, you mean the White Sox, they didn't rebuild in 18 months. They had Chris Sale and several good players before this latest round of talent buys, which we're not sure is even going to work.

 

If an MLB team rebuilds in 18 months, it means they did one of two things:

 

1. They already had good players in the pipeline

2. They got damned lucky in the draft and/or FA

I bet the Sox are competing for the division and WC all year....(barring injuries of course).

Sure, they might... But until they actually play competitive games, they're not competitive... Never mind that some of their key players are closer to free agency than their rookie seasons.

 

Rebuilds simply don't happen in 18 months unless the team is incredibly lucky.

The White Sox top 4 WAR guys from 2014 (Abreu, Sale, Quintana, and Eaton) are under team control for 5, 5, 6, and 4 more seasons, respectively.
