Bumgarner

Bumgarner, wow.

Kudos to the Royals.  I thought the magic would wear off, and this would be a one-sided series in SF's favor.  But KC was right there.

Postseason baseball is awesome, hope the Twins can be part of it again soon.

That series was absolutely won by him. Pretty amazing performance. That was a fun series, and an even better post season run for kc. Just goes to show you, a team can make it to game 7 if the world series while still having holes on the roster.

Bumgarner was great. Panda and Pence did their thing and the role players were pretty good. The rest of the staff, meh. Buster Posey really struggled and yet, they won in seven games. Bochy is a pretty good manager.

The funny thing is that Bumgarner would probably have won the WS MVP even if the Royals won game 7.

To me his performance was legendary, it harkened back to the times when pitchers logged 300IP a year. When he was brought in, I figured he would pitch an inning or two, but like Bochy said "He rode his horse". It was cool to see happen.

In my 30 years of watching baseball. I cannot remember a single player making the difference that Bumgarner did. Damn, it was a pleasure to watch.

Great job by the Royals. It was a shame they had to lose, but destiny was in favor of the quiet dynasty.

I know it is off topic, but it is in the realm of things - This WS victory probably gets Bochy in the HOF as a manager if he continues on and tacks a few more wins to his resume.

#MadBumMVP salaries next 5 years:

2015: $6.75M
2016: $9.75M
2017: $11.5M
2018: $12.0M (club option)
2019: $12.0M (club option)

Get 'em while they're young.

Great series.

He was amazing.

Let me throw this molotov cocktail into the room - Alex Meyer is five months younger than Madison Bumgarner, who has been in the majors now since 2009.  *covers head and runs like hell*

So, to throw a little water on this...each game of the WS, national sportswriters were remarking how incredibly large MadBum's strike zone was, including a very funny tweet from Keith Law last evening.  In 5 years, do people remember this is a great performance or, akin to Livan Hernandez, do people remember the zone?

Wow.  That's crazy.

If Alex Meyer had Bumgarner's control, he would have been in the majors five years ago

That's the key. Develop them and then extend them.

it's what the Twins did with Santana, Radke, Hunter, Morneau, Cuddyer, Mauer, Span and some others over the last dozen years... Way better than signing guys when they're 31!

I missed the first two innings, but in the top of the fifth Posey struck out looking, on a pitch that seemed well below the strike zone and probably inside as well.  He had a few words with the ump.  I assumed them to be along the lines of "you'll be calling that pitch for my guy too, yeah?"  And sure enough, an even worse pitch got called for a relatively meaningless strike in the bottom of the inning.  I figured it was a makeup call, which of course I hate.  But afterward pitches all over the place, high and low, were called strikes the rest of the way too.  I didn't remember it being that way in the third and fourth.  I'm assuming now that the strike zone was huge during the early innings and I just didn't notice, but if not, there is a potential black mark on an otherwise memorable game.  I was rooting for the Giants, but it's not fair if a team gets a lead and then the umpire decides, "OK, from here on it's a pitchers' duel." Now, I don't actually think it's as simple as one player influencing an ump so blatantly - silly for multiple reasons.  But the Posey ring-up sticks in my mind.  (I guess that's the power of incomplete information. :) )

Let's get right to the TD point- who could we bundle with Duensing to get Bum?  Kepler and Pinto?  Giants should go for that...

To me it didn't seem like they gave him too much on the inside edge but the outside edge my goodness.  I don't think I have ever seen such wide pitches called strikes before at least not that consistently. Those calls didn't appear to go both ways to me but i didn't watch every pitch either.  I would think a lot of pitchers would do well with the zone he was given.

I would love to hear an explanation about why they were called strikes.  Do his pitches wrap around enough to give the illusion of being closer than they really are?  He seemed to get those calls consistently IMO.  Different umps but pretty much the same calls.  Maybe he just is that good but from what my eyes saw he appeared to get a lot of breaks on outside calls.

Big dog, c'mon - you missed the key piece, Swarzy.  No irrational trade thread is complete without both Swarzy and Duensing.

Agreed, my bad.  Nice catch.  Duensing, Swarzak, and Kepler then.

You want to trade our game 1 starter from the 2009 ALDS?
