Twins should act quickly and sign Trey Mancini and dfa Joey Gallo.

Twins Video

Career against left handed pitchers  BA - .262; OPB - .328; SLG - .449; OPS - .777.  This year has been worse as expected. He can play 1B, OF and DH.  Mancini's fielding is not as good as Gallo's but he would be an extremely low cost, RH hitter. Mancini, a survivor of colon cancer, was one of the first to reach out to Liam Hendricks, when Hendricks was diagnosed with cancer. A classy move.

I had the same thought but then I looked at his numbers since he was traded from Baltimore to Houston at the deadline last year. Here they are:

With Houston 2022 - .176/.258/.364 (.622) - 7 doubles, 8 home runs, 22 RBIs in 165 at bats, 186 plate apps. (Ouch!)

With Chicago Cubs 2023 - .234/.299/.336 (.635) - 12 doubles, 4 HRs, 28 RBIs in 235 ABs (263 PAs). (Not Good)

Against LH pitching 2023 - .223/.306/.351 (.657) - 6 doubles, 2 HR, 15 RBI in 141 ABs (255 PAs) (Still Not Good)

Id love to upgrade from Gallo, not sure Mancini is much of an upgrade at the plate, probably a downgrade in the field. I would rather call up Larnach or Williams for those ABs.

I'm with @LA VIkes Fan. I'm all for moving on from Gallo, but Mancini isn't the answer. His defense is significantly worse. He can't play OF. He has an 11th percentile sprint speed this year. For reference, Vazquez is 9th percentile. Could you imagine Vazquez trying to track down a fly ball? He belongs nowhere near an OF.

Trey is an absolute class act, and seems like a wonderful dude. But he can't cut it in major league baseball anymore. No thanks on bringing him in.

Yeah, i think this one is half right: move on and DFA Gallo. but Mancini isn't the answer: he's a terrible fielder, and much like Gallo has gotten worse at the plate as the season has gone on (only he didn't have a big first month). Mancini has been one of the worst position players out there this season, and we don't need another 1B.

At this point, Mancini is really only taking ABs away from Donovan Solano, who has been quite a bit better than Mancini this season. i'd rather run Solano out there if we need another guy at 1B.

Maybe a nice guy but we don’t need to pick up other team’s DFA guys. We face 25% LH pitching. We don’t have a roster spot for this elusive RH corner OF.

Gallo's roster spot should 100% be available for any competent major leaguer to take. And they're going to really want one of those RH corner OFers if they make the playoffs.

Can't see that I would disagree with this unless they filled Gallo's spot with Larnach or Gordon.

I think the Twins should promote from St. Paul. I do think a DFA of Gallo is justified. Williams is deserving and should be the guy I think. Albeit Andrew Stevenson although he is left handed brings speed and can steal bases and is really deserving plus might be a upgrade in CF. I think we need competition in CF.

Bye bye Gallo and hello to Williams coming up and getting a shot at 1B. Solano can still play there as well, along with occasionally 2B and 3B as he has done throughout the year.

What's that? But Gallo provides a LH bat at 1B that Williams and Salono don't have? No problem. How much worse than a .160 BA and 40% K rate could they possibly be playing daily as RH bats?

Good thought for a good guy but I wouldn't want to take anymore at bats away from our younger guys ...

Let our future  show us they belong ....

This isn't spring training.

To do that , unless injuries force it, would be doltish; they are trying to win a division, not running try outs.

Bring up Lee. Period.

You're welcome.

Twins front office doesn't have the guts to admit they made a mistake on signing Gallo. Mancini would be a big upgrade.

Power hitter who plays good defense whose average barely clears Jordan Addison's freeway speed vs. a no power little defense not much average guy.  Wash.  Rather bring up Larnach.

I am all for letting Gallo go.  He started off hot and it was looking like maybe he would be a huge steal, but he has cooled off a ton and now pretty worthless.  His defense is not elite anymore either.  I think when our injured guys come back, Gallo gets the DFA.

I love Trey Mancini. A huge favorite in Baltimore. But despite his gallant return from cancer, the O's recognized that his skills had been eroding and they made the tough decision to cut the very popular player last year. I can't think the Twins should have a similar 'problem' with the fans if they cut Gallo ASAP. But grabbing Trey is probably not a good alternative anymore. They did go get Luplow from the DFA pile. How that will work out is anyone's guess.

Injuries still plague the Twins. Key guys continue to be out for long stretches. They have to be pretty vigilant as to what moves they make. One move I'm surprised they haven't made is giving Stevenson a shot. He seems to have earned it. Why not call him up for a look-see?

I'd like to think so but doesn't seem like the  type of move this team is gonna make.

Get a Saint (not a religious comment) and put him at 1B.  Quit thinking of old and on the downslope players and put one of the many players in St Paul on the roster and give them a chance.  A .160 BA is not much of a bar to clear.

Right handers on the Saints - Chris WIlliams, Jair Camargo, Brooks Lee, Royce Lewis, Austin Martin, Kyle Garlick, Anthony Prato.  Surely one of them can take Gallo's place and cover 1B.
