sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Just want to say as a lead up to a heartfelt thanks to TwinsDaily and these here game threads, this pandemic related self isolation routine is old hat to me. I just splurged for the mlb tv package, and am watching most of the Twins games assuming i don't nod off. Last time i watched Twins games on a regular basis, i was taking care of my father during his last couple years. Dad was also a fan of the Twins, who were our first hometown winners back in '87 and living in Rochester MN, not counting the fact Dad grew up in NY state, and it is hard to imagine the Yankes didn't win sometime in his youth. Anyway, games were something regular to plan around that Dad enjoyed watching, and Game Threads were a small but important way for me to socialize with the outside world. So in short, thanks, TD for helping me through a tough time, and hopefully in some small fashion, i am helping to return the favor. Or is that favour? I perhaps should apologize for the pandemic itself, but that explanation of how come its my fault involves brussel sprouts, and the concept of odds pressure, which isn't exactly scientifically rigorous. Anyway, back to Baseball! I am missing Buxton and Garver and Donaldson and... i'm too lazy to look the rest of 'em, but it's a team sport, and we play with who we got. And the Royals have sure been playing us tough. This looks like it could be another for the ages! Twins 0. Jake Odorizzi (R ) P1. M. Gonzalez ( S ) 3B2. Jake Cave ( L) CF3. Nelson Cruz (R ) DH4. Miguel Sano (R ) 1B5. Eddie Rosario ( L) LF6. I. Vargas ( S ) 2B7. Ehire Adrianza ( S ) SS8. Max Kepler ( L) RF9. Ryan Jeffers (R ) C Royals 0. Danny Duffy ( L) P1. W. Merrifield (R ) CF2. Nicky Lopez ( L) 2B3. Hunter Dozier (R ) RF4. Jorge Soler (R ) DH5. Ryan O'Hearn ( L) 1B6. Maikel Franco (R ) 3B7. Alex Gordon ( L) LF8. A. Mondesi ( S ) SS9. Cam Gallagher (R ) C "... Play the game with spirit.bever quit nor feat it.play the game and play it wellwith a good comeback"
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Thanks for the personal insight. I was living in Rochester in '87 too, who knows we might have crossed paths!
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Glad to see Jeffers in against a leftie. Thats about the limits of my lineup praise.
Diesel Verified Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 At least with the injuries on the Twins is that they SHOULD be recovered before the end of the season. A lot of teams can’t say that right now
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Perhaps? My parents worked for IBM in the 80s. I attended Jefferson and Kelloggs, so i may not have moved in too wide a social circle back then. PM if ya think it worth comparing notes further?
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Glad to see Jeffers in against a leftie.Thats about the limits of my lineup praise.I also look forward to seeing what Vargas will do. Coming as he does with Escobar's recommendation, he should be fun to watch.

Darius Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Jake Cave in the two hole? The humanity.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 2-3-3 top of the first... MLB did some wierdness. Probably something on my connection's fault.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 Can't wait to see which new team we're playing tod.... Oh.They are brand new. Everything's up to date in Kansas City.
SS MagicMark Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Defense isn't doing Jake any favors so far. ETA: Can't blame them for that one, though.
70charger Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Who's the long reliever again? Asking for a friend.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Always something with this team
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Wow it only took 21 pitches to get an out
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 Yeah, been a while since we seen Sano lose a pop up. Give some credit to the hitter for placement, and not so towering as to give enough time to recover.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 And the advantage of a homer is you can kinda reset. And looks like we are doing just that. Anyway, i's digging in for the uphill battle.
Danchat Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Fun fact: Odorizzi is the highest paid player on the team by 2020 salary. Also fun fact: Odorizzi has faced the Royals 3 times and has given up 8 runs over 8 innings...
bighat Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Worth noting that Jake probably made a big mistake taking that qualifying offer. With the Covid-19 shortened season, he's going to have to really turn things around quickly in order to earn a deal anywhere close to what he'd have made this past off-season. Real bad luck for Jake. Twins may be able to resign him at a discount if things keep going this way. Question is, do they want him? A contender probably won't. Look for him to sign with MN or end up in somewhere like Miami or Detroit.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 The Royals are really intimidated by the Twins
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 I bet Sano wants to get us back on track.

Also fun fact: Odorizzi has faced the Royals 3 times and has given up 8 runs over 8 innings...Does that mean we get 3 shutout innings from him?
operation mindcrime Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I just turned the game on during the Sano at bat. What the hell happened?
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Rosario has Fernando Rodneys batting helmet
