Game Thread: Twins v Angels, 7/4 @ 1:10 PM CDT (11:10 AM for us out here)

May we all pursue happiness on this glorious 4th of July.

 

And may the happiness of living in a nation that has a sport such as baseball be compounded by our favorite team winning again against that other team from the West Coast.

 

May everyone survive the Fourth with all fingers attached.

 

May all dwellings remain standing and not be turned into a large bonfire suitable for toasting marshmallows.

 

May we all remain sober and thoughtful during our comments in the game thread. (ha! had you going, didn't I?)*

 

*Hey, I think I inadvertently covered the "five things to think about" section. Think about that for a moment. Oh wait, that's 6 things. I hope there's not a penalty involved for exceeding the thoughts quota.

 

The Twins win yesterday was a classic, classic in that Miguel Sano committed a base running blunder after Kepler committed a base running blunder.

 

After the multiple blunders, both Mr. Kepler and Mr Sano decided they'd had enough of hitting the ball a long way and decided they needed to challenge the Angels infielders. Score: infielders 0, Sano and Kepler 2.

 

Then, after getting a 4 run lead, My Kintzler was brought in to put the game away. But, Mr. Kintzler, in usual fashion, decided to trick the Angels into thinking they had a chance by allowing a runner to reach. Which, when you think about it is kind of cruel. Letting the other team think they have a chance then shutting the door.

 

Which brings us to today.

 

Another day for baseball and it should be a good one. Okay, pretty much any day is a good day for baseball. Sort of goes without saying.

Drat, I cannot believe I screwed that up. Both Mr. Kepler? Really? 

 

Any chance Chitown can use her awesome mod powers and insert "and Mr. Sano?" 

 

And also correct the start time? 1:10 am? Really? I made as many blunders in the thread start as the Twins did on the base paths last night. Yeesh.

I'm watching the Nats and Mets game and the Nats announcers are huge homers as well.  They say he has played REALLY good this year at 2B.  The guy is the worst defensive 2B in the game.

Most of us are probably aware that Vargas has been sent down again. Interesting factoid: He has two of the six longest HR's in the majors this year according to MLB.com.

Interesting. No doubt that he is strong.

 

Does StatCast measure bat speed on strikeouts? Or the margin by which the bat missed the ball? Surely those metrics must be coming up if they are not here yet.

For those who are going WHAT???? (me for one) its:

 

Compute Local Apparent Sidereal Time. Sidereal time is the hour angle of the vernal equinox, the ascending node of the ecliptic on the celestial equator. The daily motion of this point provides a measure of the rotation of the Earth with respect to the stars, rather than the Sun.

I've wondered the same thing. It would be good info for the coaches and team, but possibly embarrassing for players like Buxton.
