  1. Nobody likes the trade in hindsight, but that particular outcome was not known at the time of the trade. Many were on board in real time. The Sonny Gray trade couldn't have worked out better, but what if he blew out his elbow in his first start with the Twins. Does that make the trade a bad trade at the time of the trade? What if Chase Petty wins 2 Cy Youngs? Does that erase the fact that the Twins got all they hoped for in that trade; 2 really good years of Sonny and a pick only a few slots behind the Petty pick?
  2. Pablo at 11 and Berrios at 36. Thanks for this it is interesting. Ober broke an innings barrier and seems determined to excel, very competitive. I like his chances. Ryan is harder to read, he's a different cat. I don't know what to make of the whole phantom injury thing. One time thing or is he prone to fading as the season wears on? Regardless the Twins still need one more starter.
  3. Yeah sorry to derail a thread I'm not a regular on. I've had my say anyway and y'all are right, no profession is immune.
  4. True, but this was super high stakes, high visibility, dozens of women. Maybe not as pathological as Sharper, but he is in prison now, not living it up on a quarter billion.
  5. How does the NFL look when they blackball a principled, competent guy like Flores, probably a really cool guy, then shower a creep with a quarter billion dollars or whatever the f it was? I sure do like baseball.
  6. Cleveland has no one to blame but themselves. I think it was pretty clear that signing a guy like Watson, especially to that obscene contract, could only end poorly for those involved. Karma is a bitch. There is no way I would ever consider involving myself with that garbage.
  7. Considering the track record of Falvey this is what should've been expected. In spite of the doldrums there has been some good and interesting conversation here at Twins Daily. Thanks for that and hang in there. Expect the unexpected!
  8. Miranda's season last year is a little strange to figure out. He came to spring training with an announced sore shoulder so they played him at DH and some first base to get his bat ready and baby the shoulder. He proceeded to just mash the ball. He was looking good hitting with that bad shoulder. Then the season starts and he can't hit. Sure you gotta take spring results with a grain of salt, but it is curious. Was the shoulder the problem last year? His at bats were not good, he looked lost. We will see, I have high hopes for him and Kirilloff at first.
  9. It's interesting that when Rooker first came up he was mashing the ball. Short time in and he gets hit on the wrist breaking a bone. If that didn't happen things could've been much different. He might still be a Twin. That injury may have hurt his production and had something to do with why he bounced around for a while. This game has tiny margins.
  10. I loved Luis Arraez, so fun to watch, but when he was traded for Lopez it immediately seemed like a good move to me. Luis' balky knees, lack of power, poor defense and late season fades (sapping his value in the playoffs) made me think we may have just sold high on a guy with warts. I don't feel that way about Julien. He also is very fun to watch. He has a look about him at the plate, fearless? I'll bet he is not the one pitchers want to face with the game on the line. The playoffs proved he is someone you can win with. The defense is just fine, get him focused on hitting leftys. Hard pass. Lee? If he gets us a playoff caliber starter with multiple years of control, I can live with that.
  11. Pablo, Ober, Ryan, Paddack and Louie. For us long time Twins fans, this represents a really good rotation. Our expectations have changed however. This is not good enough. We need one more starter. Louie must simmer in St Paul, champing at the bit. That hound will be released at some point, guaranteed. This is a very valuable role Varland will be filling for a contender. There may be a mini pipeline forming behind him, but a contender would recognize they are not quite there yet. Maybe by next year the Twins can break another interminable streak and not have to bring in rotation help from outside the organization. We are not quite there yet. Of course we would all prefer this addition to be a top of the rotation starter, that is how the front office can procure a better than passing off-season grade. A mid-rotation starter is the minimum and their path to an off-season grade of C.
  12. Guys like Lee and Kirilloff have a built-in advantage which for whatever reason isn't talked about much. AK's Dad is a hitting instructor and Lee's is a long tenured college coach. These guys seem to have well developed bats with a mature approach. I think that's why Lee has had such a linear adjustment to each level. These players have been drilled seriously their whole lives.
  13. Last year in 332 plate appearances Gallo had 50 hits with 19 singles. In 254 plate appearances Wallner had 53 hits with 27 singles. What I remember from watching is Wallner was much better at adjusting and taking different approaches. When he had his bad slump he seemed to have the tools to work his way out of it. An .877 OPS vs .741, can Wallner come close to that again? He looked to me like he was more than a one trick pony, capable of adjustments.
  14. Don King? Only in America, baby
  15. Many wanted to sign the complete moron-child Pham, but get all indignant with Bauer? I didn't follow his situation closely so I'm not sure what to think. He can pitch. A long time ago I watched a video or 2 of his and he was very articulate. If you feel like the clubhouse could absorb someone like Pham then I don't see why Bauer would be any different. As a player Bauer has way more value than Pham. It's a moot point because they won't go this route. I will say Jomboy is lucky they got Plouffe because the narrator of that older video is annoying as hell. Edit: It appears he still has one more pending lawsuit plus maybe more on the way, so they can't sign him now. Edit: After more reading I've had enough. The guy is certainly his own worst enemy. I'd be interested to know how his controversies and indiscretions have played in Japan.
  16. I disagree with the bolded just because we need rotation depth. We need to add at least a mid-rotation starter. That guy is going to be a rostered major leaguer. I would say Louie has shown he is at least a major league capable pitcher and he very likely could be a #3 or better moving forward. He is, however, the only player available to the Twins that is both major league ready and has options necessary for stashing in AAA. Just like last year when Bailey Ober was sent down amid some grumbling from the fan base, this year it is Varland's turn. This is a good thing having 6 legitimate MLB caliber starters instead of years past where we had 3 at best and added the Happs and Shoemakers of the world.
  17. Julien has a chance to be a special player. Talk about a diamond in the rough. I also see him as the least likely regression candidate considering his skills. Here's hoping that him not facing leftys and not attempting to steal much were the brass just easing him into his first MLB season. If he can make some improvements, yes monster is a good description. I hope my Quebecoise neighbors don't get too offended during game threads by my French references and juggling mine gifs. They should know I'm just jealous of their backcountry skiing up in the Chic-Chocs.
  18. The only soda I've had is of the club variety.
  19. I agree that the late rounds especially are a crapshoot. I am ripping their choice of Hall nonetheless. My bias for taller QBs with a good arm and wheels is all. All I ask, lol. Watching these guys play just makes me appreciate Kirk's arm. He has 2 of the 3 baseline things and is even faster relative to the league than is generally thought. He's just not a natural runner.
  20. I never liked the pick. I would've looked elsewhere. 6000 yards in college by a guy with his measurables? KAM thinks he's on to something others can't see? The guy I'm looking for in the late rounds is a raw, physically TALENTED guy playing in a system that couldn't/didn't develop him properly. That is the diamond in the rough. But hey, they are all a crapshoot, lol.
  21. He's not ready? Sorry he just doesn't have the talent to be an NFL QB. Only 6 feet tall with a mediocre arm at best (looks less than mediocre to me). I don't understand the pick in the first place. If you want to try developing a QB prospect, how's about starting with an arm, some size and athleticism.
