  1. @Cory Engelhardt no apologies necessary. I just watched that segment again, the Julien interview comes on at 2:21:00 (this is an almost 8 hour video, lol.). I'm obviously a huge fan of Eddie and think he can be a real headache for your opponent in the lineup during the playoffs. This is a guy you can win with. I'd like to see him focus on second, hitting leftys and just continuing to refine his approach at the plate.
  2. That's not what I perceived. He said they had him practicing some at first. I don't remember it being said he would be playing there a lot. What Julien did say was because he grew up in Quebec he got a ton of work in the cages hitting (it shows), but didn't get much time practicing fielding. So he said since he has turned pro he has concentrated on taking thousands more grounders than other players in an effort to catch up. He is extremely focused on improving his fielding and I think it showed last year. I like him primarily at second, the same for Kirilloff at first and Polo covering DH and second. Eddie is athletic enough to be a good second baseman and I like him there. Then you have Farmer backing up the left side. With that being said and as much as I like Polo, if he can be moved to help get a starter, that is what I would do. Julien is then your second baseman.
  3. See if they'll take Schobel first.
  4. LK (just kidding Luke Keaschall) gets compared to Tanner Schobel a lot as a 2nd base/utility type. I do have a quibble with Twinsdaily as the player's size is seldom mentioned. Keaschall is 6' 1" 190lbs and Schobel is 5' 9" 170lbs. I think this is worth mentioning although one thing I do like about baseball is all body types are represented.
  5. He looked so miserable last year when he couldn't find the ball. So now on to the Capital for all to witness as he shoulders his burden in his quest for more cash .
  6. Man Miller has a nice arm. All right on the money frozen ropes. The only one hopper was from very deep in the hole.
  7. @gunnarthor As a Viking fan since '73 I've come to realize that my fandom is based on a team and mystique long past. No more menacing dark purple uniforms. No more foreboding frigid stadium. People lament the 4 Superbowl losses, but that team was amazing to follow. This team has been mediocre at best for decades. So yes I'm jaded and should probably keep it to myself to not spoil it for others, lol.
  8. That's a good point @nicksavikingabout Spielman and ownership kicking the can. Maybe I need to ease up on Kwesi and consider he may be operating under pressure that isn't helping him.
  9. There was never a time during the Zimmer, Spielman regime where we had the worst talent in the division. That time is upon us. The last few years surely turned sour, but Spielman was an above average GM. Kwesi has a long way to go to even get there. I think he is in over his head. He is new to football in relation to his peers.
  10. Man that .351 babip in the second is crazy. Even moreso considering Kepler usually has among the lowest babip's in the league. I hope he bottles whatever he found last year.
  11. That is true that prospects could be considered liquid assets. In this case there is a difference from your example. You can trade a major league asset, weakening your current team, with the hopes of using those acquired assets or cash to eliminate the created weakness and even improve the team. The problem is unlike purchasing bonds which you can always do, there is no guarantee that you will be able to acquire a desired asset through free agency or trade. You may just be left with the weekend team.
  12. Here ya go @August J Gloopand @tony&rodneystraight from the horse's mouth and from two thousand and freaking fourteen. I think this is ingrained in Mr Gleeman's thought process over the last ten years. I knew I wasn't that crazy, lol. Just keep in mind, not all of my opinions are half baked, some are actually fully baked. https://aarongleeman.com/2014/10/15/how-much-payroll-space-do-the-twins-have-and-will-they-actually-spend-it/
  13. Are transcriptions of the Gleeman and the Geek podcast available? Surely I can do some digging, I may never really know if it is true or not. Doesn't sound crazy to me though. Pretty much falls in line with what it felt like to be a fan during Ryan's tenure.
  14. Yeah I do. I have heard this from multiple sources. The way Gleeman puts it is Ryan took pride in being frugal and not spending all that was available. From my limited exposure to T Ryan's personality, the shoe seems to fit. Why do you find this so hard to believe?
  15. In an effort to keep you from going nuts consider the DECADES of low payrolls, of not spending to our market share. If this was accompanied with years of out spending our market share to help prop a winning window open, then the complaints would be hollow.
  16. Winder's 4 seam fastball got clobbered, but the word is he is working on a 2 seam sinker. My predicted order of success Alcala, Sands, Winder. Balazovic? Wild Card
  17. Agreed, they will likely keep Gordon up since he has no options. That's ok, I guess, if he performs. My worry is with their track record, if G Money falters, will they have the stomach to cut bait? Oops my bad it's G Cinco or G Flash, G Money is a different rapper. Old guy trying to keep up
  18. Agreed except wasn't it fastball, sweeper and splitter or split change?
  19. Just trying to find humor in the desert that is the Twins payroll. I, like everybody else would like to see them spend more. I also feel like they still have an outstanding IOU for all the low payroll years under T Ryan.
  20. It's pretty hilarious that now seemingly every article, podcast and video about the Twins opens with "the Twins self imposed payroll restrictions", lol. It may have been Gleeman who coined and popularized the phrase. I'm sure every time Dave St Peter sees Gleeman slumped against the back wall at a press conference, the hair on the back of his neck stands up.
  21. I agree with much of your post except regarding Varland. Combining both the minors and majors he pitched 152 regular season innings in '22 and 149 in '23. That lower total in '23 was only because he spent the end of the year and the playoffs in the bullpen. Varland is a horse and has been durable so far. He could easily pitch well past 150 innings this season.
  22. Lighten up Francis. Zero chance? SMH, you might want to hold off on your dire predictions until you actually know what the Twins 2024 roster is.
  23. When Duran moved to reliever he was quoted as saying he was enjoying it because he was always walking around sore in-between starts. He said his body just felt better as a reliever. I'm sure there are many rea$on$ he has considered starting since that early transitional period when quoted, but he also has grown into and accepted his role as reliever. It's gotta be a rush to come out to all that fiery fanfare with the game on the line. Also last season he had some minor struggles, but worked through them well culminating with a clutch performance in the playoffs. His role has been cemented. He had promise as a starter, but never delivered and was hurt so often he was only able to pitch about 16 innings in his final year in that role. Good team building doesn't include weakening one area to improve another. Do the Twins have the success they had last season without Duran as their top reliever? Hard pass for me.
