  1. Keep Vasquez one more year. Chances are one of the catchers will be injured at some point this year and we will get a look at Camargo to see what we have for depth.
  2. It you look at 2020 he had a similar batting line with an even higher babip. Yes it a smaller sample size. Yes it is very likely some of these things regress, but he did say he unlocked a new approach which I think he said included some things he had gotten away from. I hope he is right, he seemed very confident at the time. Of course this game is very good at crushing confidence, lol. The .858 OPS and 134 OPS+ are pretty sweet for any player and especially a catcher. Baseball Reference projects him to have a .764 OPS which is above average and again well above average for a catcher. That would be more like the in-between you mention. My guess (hope) is he does better than that which would be still be possible even with a drop in some stats like babip. For reference the league average OPS for catchers last year was .694.
  3. Thanks, I thought the same thing when I saw the post that triggered this response, lol. There are 2 misconceptions present on this thread. That Louis saw a ton of pitches and that Buxton somehow mentally can't swing a bat when he is at DH only. The Louis myth was dispelled last year or the year before here on TD. Not sure how you can prove that it was a bad leg not some sort of mental block that caused Buxton's woes. The Catch-22 is that if he is healthy enough to properly swing a bat, he'll be in the field as well, so we will never have that definitive answer. I think the situation is different this year. Going into last year they said AK would need to be eased in. This season it was stated that the recovery was short enough for him to have a normal off-season. But yes, there are injury concerns all over the roster. I only follow the Twins so I don't know how common this is, but it seems extreme. I'm sure some of these guys dream about what it would be like to have a healthy off-season with no workout restrictions. The Twins do have a backup/platoon mate for AK at first, Miranda. Of course he has injury concerns as well, lol.
  4. Their eventual payroll hasn't been established. Even they can't know what the final number will be. Based on their comments it appears to me the payroll will fall somewhere between 125 and 140 million. So when you say the team has voluntarily regressed to their 2021 payroll of about $125m, I don't think that has been established yet. We will see. It is true that it is the owners alone who don't want to see the Twins continue to spend at least to their market share. For example I'm guessing Falvey would agree to a $200m payroll and wouldn't have a Ryanesque aversion to spending all of it.
  5. "When the Twins dealt Arráez last offseason, they were betting on him being a first baseman or DH, as his health had started to limit his range in the field. The Marlins thought of Arráez as at least a part-time second baseman, which is why they thought he was valuable enough to give up Pablo Lopez (plus two prospects) to acquire him. The Marlins followed through on their plan."
  6. Offense, defense doesn't matter. Matty P's got this
  7. Who is more popular in the Scranton Wilkes-Barre area? Steelers or Eagles?
  8. This is not very clear. It was originally reported that Kirilloff had a bursa sack removed which was considered a very minor procedure. When they cut him open they were very pleased this was all that was necessary. He was expected to be full go this spring. At least that's what I remember.
  9. In 2022 in over 500 plate appearances at AA Julien had a babip of .393. Last year at AAA in 170 PA it was .386. I'm mean in A ball in over 200 PA it was .451. In a full season in '24 do I think his babip will be as high as .371 again? That is pretty high so unlikely I guess. The guy will always have a high babip due to his approach. I see Eddie only getting better and if he is healthy, his overall production will be resistant to regression. At least until he sets the bar too high, lol.
  10. The Twins are my religion. Twinsdaily is my church. The bishop appears to have been led astray.
  11. Looking at that video still, Kepler and Manoah make quite the odd couple, lol.
  12. Yes it is true that Julien had a downturn in the second half. To be fair he was clearly injured at the time. He did manage to pull himself together when it mattered most to the tune of a 1.043 OPS in the playoffs. With his command of the plate and clutch nature, he may be the least likely candidate for regression.
  13. Make that 3. We already have tickets to the Bulldog hockey game in Duluth and can't make it. I'd love to buy a glass!
  14. He's ditching his four seam fastball, which got absolutely clobbered, and working on a two seam sinker. Might work.
  15. This game is generating quite the algorithm in Kwesi's head
  16. Dak with the gak
  17. It's just a factor of age. When I was young the Vikes' playoff rival was Dallas and Green Bay was quaint and pathetic. I just felt sorry for them
  18. Obviously the water in Green Bay is a quarterback elixir
  19. The pouty faces on the Dallas sideline early in the second are hilarious.
  20. As a long time Viking fan and Midwesterner my disdain for Dallas outpaces my loathing of the Packers. Plus if GB wins they have to go on the road unlike Dallas, correct?
  21. I agree with this unless, of course, they can pull off another Sonny Gray trade. That would be Charlee Soto for two years of a front line starter and the opportunity for another comp pick.
  22. Yes hindsight is 20/20 and when things don't turn out the way you wanted you can complain. The thing I keep in mind about this front office is what a stark contrast it is to the former regime. On every level. Modernization. Player development. Spending. No all the moves won't work out, but the more assertive approach is very appealing. They make bold splashes. I expect them to attempt to improve the roster yet again this year.
