  1. Maybe the team that collapsed last year is who they really are. The start of this season looks pretty similar to last September.
  2. Here’s a guy that has improved since leaving the Twins - Miguel Sano. I think this has more to do with him working hard to get in shape so he could get back to the big leagues. I thought he was done and had no chance again to play, but I guess I was wrong. He is now hitting cleanup for the Angels. He was 3 for 4 yesterday with his first home run and a double as the DH. Today he played 3rd base and went 1 for 3 to raise his average to .300 and OPS to .810. I used to think he only got a hit when the pitcher hit his bat. It’s still early but it looks like he might have figured something out. Maybe being out of baseball motivated him to improve, but it’s still hard for me to believe. Anyway, good for him and I’m glad he is doing well.
  3. I thought of the Laudner to Gaetti play too. Two great plays to help win both series.
  4. I think #6 looks the best too. Being I am helping you spend your money, do you have room for a picture or two? My dad had an 8x10 autographed photo of Mickey Mantle. Not being a Yankee fan, I found online an autographed 8x10 of Harmon to go with Mantle. I think it was about $75. They look pretty good together. Just another rabbit hole to go down to add a little extra to your room.
  5. No, Miguel Sano is my Dad’s least favorite player.
  6. My Paul Wellstone story happened at the State Fair. We liked to take our kids around to meet politicians, to shake hands and say hello. We saw Senator Wellstone was there and got in line to meet him. We arrived a little early and only had about third of a block line of people to wait for. The line grew long behind us. We got up to him pretty quickly and he cordially greeted us. I had a question for him about the BWCA and the conflict then with motors and motorized portages. Then something amazing happened. He started explaining at length the background, the current problem, and his position. This took several minutes. As the line grew far longer, his aides were trying to hurry him but he didn’t listen. He stopped only when he had completed his explanation. It was a fun and memorable experience for my whole family.
  7. Snell went 3.2 innings last night in Denver. He walked 6, struck out 5 and gave up 5 runs. So his last outing doesn’t look good altogether Colorado is a tough place to pitch.
  8. Yes great job by Watkins and Kepler. Great catch by Buxton. But wow our shortstop has an arm. Great throw by Correa to finish the game.
  9. I am concerned that Buxton is playing hurt. He doesn’t look right at the plate. The ball he missed in right center was a tough play but one I expected him to make. Not every center fielder would catch that ball, but he’s not every center fielder.
  10. Just like that the Twins are in 2nd place! I know it’s early, but it beats being in last place early in the season. It’s also so fun to watch Buxton laughing and having fun.
  11. I’m happy with the new shortstop. I don’t think they are finished with the roster and will add some pitching. It’s fun to read Yankee fans comments on MLB Trade Rumors about the Twins signing Correa. Quite a few are really cranky about who they got so the Twins could end up with our shortstop. I also read that Rortvedt has an oblique strain and is out for awhile.
  12. Big news and big surprise!! Better shortstop than Story. I guess they spent the Donaldson money. Nice!
  13. I have never been a real fan of this front office but I like what they are doing so far. I think they have a plan and we need to give them a few days to work it out. I think the Donaldson move is freeing up money to spend on a shortstop. Great shortstops are hard to come by, and if Story is healthy he can be great. They still need to add some pitching to make this successful, but these moves might be coming. I hope I am right, otherwise it’s going to be another rough season that is pretty much over by May.
  14. It’s hard to limit the number to 5. I liked Mike’s selections. Donaldson and Cruz have not been good. Kepler looks lost at the plate. Sano looked a little better after trying to change his swing, but it seems like he reverts back to the same big loopy swing most of the time. I think sometimes the pitchers throw the ball where he swings and hit his bat. But then, I can’t bring myself to watch every game. They aren’t much fun to watch. Nobody seems like they are having much fun, even when they win.
  15. Just saw the Twins are going to sign Caleb Thielbar. He was probably easy to sign but not exactly the ace I was hoping for.
  16. I like Eddie in left field. He had a great throw to win that game in Boston. I think he is a better fielder with Buxton in center. His ankle injury seemed to hurt his second half of the season. He needs to hustle more when he hits a ground ball out, but that is Rocco's job. He was a solid cleanup hitter who drove in more than 100 runs. Very successful season.
  17. He made me nervous too. Early in the season it was too cold to grip his splitfinger. When it got warmer, he still didn't use it much. Hard to figure what was going on. A straight 91 mph fastball doesn't work real well at this level. On top of this his motion was hard to watch.
  18. This isn't Molitor's fault, but I don't think we need to see more of Belisle, Duffy, or Field. On the manager, though, wouldn't it have been fun to have had Gardy managing today when Belisle got tossed?
  19. Jim Mudcat Grant had a nightclub act and was a singer. I read where he worked in the Cleveland ticket office and for their community relations team when he played for the Indians.
  20. Pretty sure Bob Allison worked for Coca Cola.
  21. I didn't see every game down the stretch last year, but I saw Pat Light pitch. He is supposed to have a big time fastball. I remember watching and waiting to see triple digits. Light seemed to want to throw all off speed stuff. Was he hurt or did I miss his fastball?
  22. This is a great idea. Thanks Seth. 1) My daughter was in 1st grade and the Twins' Caravan came to our town. Kirby was there and my daughter and I went to see him. He signed her baseball card but didn't say too much. However as we were leaving, his wife Tonya, stopped us to compliment my daughter on her pretty braids and talk to her. Tonya insisted that I take a picture of the two of them. This made a little girl's day and is a memory that has lasted for 25 years. 2) I wish I had met Harmon and got his autograph on a baseball.
