  1. Good deal. I was hoping to get a shortstop from the Yankees in the Donaldson trade. It's about time we won one.?
  2. I never saw a 200-300 million dollar player coming here so I have no expectations for Story or Correa. Unloading Donaldson really did cost us Garver and Rortvedt. Shows you how much in demand he was. But it got us more playing time for Arraez and Miranda. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sanchez unloaded, there is no reason to eat his contract. I still see 2022 as a year long try out camp.
  3. I think the likely hood of any making it out of spring training goes up with injuries otherwise I think none. However, there are probably 6-8 who make it as the season goes on mostly pitchers and Martin.
  4. I expected a trade of Garver this winter, but I did think it would be for pitching. Trading for a decent fielding starting shortstop works out pretty good. Solid fielders behind a young pitching could make this staff look a lot better than it might otherwise.
  5. The first I've read of anyones take on the electronic strike zone in game action. Probably not going to be as much need or ability to train catchers to steal strikes. I can just hear the computer laughing now. Seems possible that Julien will be ready sometime in '23. That could make the next 2 years important for the future Twins lineup as well as pitching.
  6. Trading for 2 years of a super duper Ace #1 guy, makes no sense when the other 4 pieces of a typical rotation are mostly up in the air. Signing a Pineda type for up to 2/20 would help us get by. This year has to be about pitcher development whenever it starts. Maeda may be back sometime this year and hopefully leading the rotation in '23.
  7. I would be happy if among Ryan, Ober and a couple of not yet named minor leaguers we have a 4-some of a future rotation with an ERA of 4.50 for this year.
  8. This is written as if Martin has played 3-4 seasons in the minors. "Coaches are trying to get back his lost power. He's played over 12 months with a wrist injury." What is that? You can't reasonably expect to compare college stats to a Double A minor league season.
  9. The fans buy the tickets or watch the televised games. So ultimately the fans own the game. Obviously the fans also don't seem to have a lot to say in the matter. BUT, as a fan I have decided not to buy a season ticket this year. The only thing I truly can do to show my disapproval of the situation.
  10. That looks like a pretty rugged starting team. The middle infield would be weak defenders, Larnach starting in Minnesota instead of St Paul. The rotation period. I could easily see quite a bit of shuffling before the season got to old. But I don't see anything better either ready to start the season. They'll need a steady bus service from the minors.
  11. I agree with the statement that Robertson or Beckham on the Roster would be less than ideal. I also agree with Dman on the Palacios choice as I have made similar comments to other to other discussion topics. Palacios is rated as the best infield defender and best infield arm in the system, as well as showing power last season.
  12. Nice thing about having a number of starters closer to the majors than SWR, we don't have to cut short his development time. So if he breaks in as a reliever in late 2023 and forces someone else out of the rotation, I think that's a good thing.
  13. I watched the Twins as often as possible and caught most of their no televised games on the radio in the early 60's. Earl Battey was one of my favorite players. along with Killebrew, Oliva, Tovar & Carew.
  14. Seems like a good kid. Well spoken. It should be fun to see a lineup with Buxton, Martin & Lewis driving pitchers crazy even if it is 2 years away. With maybe Julien and Gordon too.
  15. I think the more he pitches the more we learn of his true game speed. He may throw 100 mph 3-4 times a game, but average closer to 95-96. With a good slider and changeup that would make him a top of the rotation possibility.
  16. I look at these prospects list and think of the 10-12 players who haven't been mentioned yet. It appears that the major league roster could have a steady stream of at least 2-3 position players per year coming in and turning the roster over. I would say the same about the rotation but you need a rotation first to have any turnover. But I still see 1-2 players a year adding to or trying to force their way into the rotation with a number winding up in the bullpen. Could be a very interesting next 3 years. I hope it doesn't end. We've gone any number of years over the past 30 without a lot arriving from the farm system. We may even wind up with a strong Triple A for a change.
  17. Well the Beckham name will draw some attention, until you realize it was 15 years ago that he was a hot prospect. Sounds like a get through the season move at best.
  18. All 3 lost time due to injury last year and all 3 lost the entire 2020 covid year. If all 3 are healthy this year would make our entire system look that much stronger. Since (hopefully) 5-6 players will graduate to the big club this year, I think there will be room in the rankings. I don't mind other players passing them in the rankings, if they are truly better.
  19. Baseball America rates Winder as the Twins 6th best prospect. "His fastball sits at 95 and touches 98. With grades of 60 for his slider and changeup, along with a 50 grade for 12-6 curveball." Seems like pretty good stuff to follow 55 command. Considering his age and the way the seasons have turned out the past couple of years, I would prefer he uses his innings available this year for the Twins. He'll be a rookie so I would expect some failure but by the middle of the year we'll have a lot better idea.
  20. I read it as 88-91, when the article said up 80's-low 90's. 93 is a pretty good starting point.
  21. Sounds like he may need to add 3-4 miles to his fastball to have a shot at the majors. Maybe that comes through shorter pitching stints as a reliever or a bit of coaching magic.
  22. Kepler has not played like a full time regular the past couple of years. A platoon with Rooker or Celestino, a pair of right handed hitters, might give the Twins good coverage in one corner spot. Use Larnach or Kirilloff to cover the other corner. Kepler might also come in as a late defensive replacement if the situation warrants it. Kepler has never been consistently strong against lefties and after 6 years in the majors he doesn't appear to be able to make the adjustments. Some guys can't. People want to dream on 2019 as if that was the expected Kepler, but it really hasn't been.
  23. I think at some point most pitchers think the will come back within a year of Tommy John. Very few ever make, let alone make it with their former "stuff".
  24. A staff full of closers and ace starters. Chagois, Stewart, Jay, Thorpe, Gonsalves, Burdi, Reed, etc. Some cups of coffee no full pots. Not just with the Twins but haven't made it anywhere.
