  1. Nice thing about having a number of starters closer to the majors than SWR, we don't have to cut short his development time. So if he breaks in as a reliever in late 2023 and forces someone else out of the rotation, I think that's a good thing.
  2. I watched the Twins as often as possible and caught most of their no televised games on the radio in the early 60's. Earl Battey was one of my favorite players. along with Killebrew, Oliva, Tovar & Carew.
  3. Seems like a good kid. Well spoken. It should be fun to see a lineup with Buxton, Martin & Lewis driving pitchers crazy even if it is 2 years away. With maybe Julien and Gordon too.
  4. I think the more he pitches the more we learn of his true game speed. He may throw 100 mph 3-4 times a game, but average closer to 95-96. With a good slider and changeup that would make him a top of the rotation possibility.
  5. I look at these prospects list and think of the 10-12 players who haven't been mentioned yet. It appears that the major league roster could have a steady stream of at least 2-3 position players per year coming in and turning the roster over. I would say the same about the rotation but you need a rotation first to have any turnover. But I still see 1-2 players a year adding to or trying to force their way into the rotation with a number winding up in the bullpen. Could be a very interesting next 3 years. I hope it doesn't end. We've gone any number of years over the past 30 without a lot arriving from the farm system. We may even wind up with a strong Triple A for a change.
  6. Well the Beckham name will draw some attention, until you realize it was 15 years ago that he was a hot prospect. Sounds like a get through the season move at best.
  7. All 3 lost time due to injury last year and all 3 lost the entire 2020 covid year. If all 3 are healthy this year would make our entire system look that much stronger. Since (hopefully) 5-6 players will graduate to the big club this year, I think there will be room in the rankings. I don't mind other players passing them in the rankings, if they are truly better.
  8. Baseball America rates Winder as the Twins 6th best prospect. "His fastball sits at 95 and touches 98. With grades of 60 for his slider and changeup, along with a 50 grade for 12-6 curveball." Seems like pretty good stuff to follow 55 command. Considering his age and the way the seasons have turned out the past couple of years, I would prefer he uses his innings available this year for the Twins. He'll be a rookie so I would expect some failure but by the middle of the year we'll have a lot better idea.
  9. I read it as 88-91, when the article said up 80's-low 90's. 93 is a pretty good starting point.
  10. Sounds like he may need to add 3-4 miles to his fastball to have a shot at the majors. Maybe that comes through shorter pitching stints as a reliever or a bit of coaching magic.
  11. Kepler has not played like a full time regular the past couple of years. A platoon with Rooker or Celestino, a pair of right handed hitters, might give the Twins good coverage in one corner spot. Use Larnach or Kirilloff to cover the other corner. Kepler might also come in as a late defensive replacement if the situation warrants it. Kepler has never been consistently strong against lefties and after 6 years in the majors he doesn't appear to be able to make the adjustments. Some guys can't. People want to dream on 2019 as if that was the expected Kepler, but it really hasn't been.
  12. I think at some point most pitchers think the will come back within a year of Tommy John. Very few ever make, let alone make it with their former "stuff".
  13. A staff full of closers and ace starters. Chagois, Stewart, Jay, Thorpe, Gonsalves, Burdi, Reed, etc. Some cups of coffee no full pots. Not just with the Twins but haven't made it anywhere.
  14. As far as Martin goes, he appears to be a good hitting athlete looking for a position. It also appears there are only 4 players in the system rated more valuable them him. With 8 positions he could fit into including the DH(probably not catcher), I think we find a position for him. We don't need to trade our best players, considering that he can also fill in at two of the position taken by players ahead of him.
  15. All I to say is "keep plugging talent into the system". It may be 2030 before we see it, but the game keeps going on.
  16. I wonder where these guys will start the season. The starting rotation for most levels could well be stacked. I'm hoping for a high success rate. Can players on the 40 man roster pitch in the minors if the lockout is still in effect? Could Ryan and Ober pitch at triple A just until the regular season started if need be? If so, The Saints could have quite a rotation to start the year. I agree with "Major League Ready" on the top 5.

    Bring on the kids

I mostly agree with you except for Donaldson. I've never been a fan of his and didn't like the signing. I realize with $50mil or more due him it would be tough to trade him but I still think the future Twins would look better without him now taking a full time spot now.
  18. We do need some of best arms to make the rotation even if it takes an extra year to be ready. I would prefer 4-5 years of the best arms in the rotation than bullpen. How many years do top free agents starters really have before they leave their original team?
  19. It would have been nice to think that Spring Training was only 6 weeks away. I will be watching more minor league baseball this year. Which may be good, considering that many of the best players won't be promoted to the major leagues any time soon.
  20. I think Edouard Julien could be a player making more noise next year. This was his first season, as he was injured his draft year of 2019. He finished the year at Cedar Rapids with an 891 OPS. Most of his at bats were at Cedar Rapids and combined with his time at Ft Myers his OPS for the year was 914 with 18 homers and 34 stolen bases. His strikeout rate was 28.5% but his walk rate was 22%. I would think he'd start with the Wind Surge this year.
  21. No, I don't think I made an argument to trade Winder. You can of course try to interpret things to fit your personal argument.
  22. People keep on wanting to trade the teams pitching prospect without giving them a chance to develop into pitchers other teams want to trade for. Montas, for instance, has pitched in parts of 6 major league seasons and started in the minors in 2010. His arm has over a 1000 innings of professional ball on it. Winder has pitched 236 innings in professional ball. I'd much prefer to keep Winder and let him develop. Maybe someday some other team will trade to trade several of their top prospects for him.
  23. Martin is considered the #1 or 2 prospect on the Twins depending on what survey you review. 2021 was his first year of organized ball and he had a total 330 at bats. If the future of The Twins is based on developing prospects, rather than signing free agents, why would we even consider trading him UNLESS another team came to us with a totally overwhelming offer.
  24. Do you understand the definition of rookie. Obviously not so why are you writing this article?
  25. I assume you don't like Ryan Jeffers since you left him off the list.
