  1. Well management could put their foot down and tell all players no getting hurt next year. Fundamentals look much better when you have the same 26 players playing the same roles day after day. It's called a team. But when your team averages 3 new faces every week, kind of hard to get any consistency. I wouldn't resign Correa. He's not a bad player, but this team won't afford to give one player a quarter of the payroll and be good long term. The Twins aren't the Dodgers and never will be. Anyone who wants to see a team with a $300mil payroll should just watch the Yankees or Dodgers. I have been a Twins fan for over 60 years. There have been worst times. I don't watch the games for the management, which I think has done a good job. At least compared to the previous 30 years under Ryan. I'm optimistic that the next few years could be some of the best baseball we've seen for quite awhile with the accumulated talent on the roster, if HEALTHY.
  2. I'd look at 2 different rotation. A five man starting group with expectations of completing 5 innings and possibly 6 on a limited basis. A second rotation of 3 long relievers throwing up to 3 innings per outing every 4 days. That leaves 5 pitchers to cleanup and closeout games. Probably too simple.
  3. It looks like Miranda, Lewis & Wallner can be future starters or at least near full time backups. All got their chances somewhat early because of injuries but they look like faces we will see regularly going forward. Hopefully 2-3 more new players of equal talent show up in 2023.
  4. Duran's debut was probably best since there is a large sample size to evaluate. To return to starting, he probably needs to be convinced to take 5-8mph off his pitches. His arm didn't hold up to starting in the minors and probably can't in the majors. He has great breaking pitches to go with his fastball, but he would have to learn to pitch in a manner that allows his arm to hold up i longer outings. I do like that two of our best rookie pitchers actually debuted last year, Jax and Ryan.
  5. Correa couldn't find a buyer last winter at 10 years and $350mil so high probability he won't this year either. Three teams looking at the free agents shortstops more than likely will resign their own guys, which their fans know rather than sign someone new. The Yankees could have signed someone last winter if they were in that market, so I think they will go with their top prospects next year. I don't think the Cubs have enough talent to attract Correa so I don't think he'll go there. Philadelphia made it as a wild card this year, but have to compete with the Mets and Braves. I think that is the most likely place for him to wind up.
  6. The Twins need a start of year shortstop( assuming Correa gone and Lewis still rehabbing) along with a solid backup catcher( preferably left-handed/w good defense). They also will need all the controllable pitchers they can keep their hands on(expected injuries). Spare replacement level or less outfielders and middle infielders not so much, but a good backup outfielder won't hurt either.
  7. Sign him as the potential starting third baseman and security blanket. If others show up healthy and playing well, then he could be moved next year at the trade deadline. If he's the worst player on your roster then you're in good shape.
  8. I hope he gets 3-4 good innings in this year and go home for the winter with a good feeling with the experience. I'd like to see him get 75-100 innings next year with the Twins.
  9. I wouldn't expect to see Kirilloff before mid June. They don't need him to start the year, but when he shows up they do need him to be healthy. Wallner I think will start in St Paul and probably go back and forth all year. They do need Larnach to be healthy and hitting from the word go. They do need some power in that lineup. Can't plan on Buxton for more than 3-4 games a week. Celestino needs to develop at triple A, maybe Gordon can play center 2-3 games a week.
  10. Every team needs to develop a winning team identity. The Twins will never be the Dodgers, Yankees or Red Sox when it comes to sloshing money around to try to win. Throwing 10 years and 350 million at anyone? Don't hold your breath. Teams like St Louis & Tampa Bay have got strategies that work for them. The Twins need to be closer to that mold. Correa was a drawing card for one year, that's it. Most teams won't give that much money to one player, unless they don't expect to develop good players and having a winning team for 10 years.
  11. Thank you for writing an article based on positives. Too many articles on this site are based on moaning and bitching and looking for someone to blame. Even most of the responses to this article are nothing but complaining. Even I am complaining about all the bitching. There were a lot of things that were positive. These Twins were picked to finish third in this division this year. They may finish second. They built 80% of a good pitching staff. Ryan, Ober & Winder with perhaps Varland, look like they can be strong solid starters. Miranda and Wallner can add middle of the order bats. Gordan appears to have found himself. Adding three consistent players to the lineup. Duran, Jax, Thielbar, Lopez & Moran & maybe Henriquez can be most of a very good bullpen. If we add back all the guys in the hospital, I think this team wins the division next year. Plus there will be 6-8 guys in the minors creeping up on the major league roster. I am looking forward to watching this team over the next couple of years, hopefully with the same manager, coaches and front office. At the end of the day, I think this team has a lot of positives going for it.
  12. Looking at Kepler's career, he has only had one good year. RF has usually been reserved for hitters, not good field no hit guys. In 2019, Kepler led off and hit the pitchers first pitch fastball into the seats. That pretty much is it for his career and the pitchers figured him out. Before that he was a 230 hitter and since he has been a 220 hitter. I think everyone thought he should have been better.Time for him to move over or out and make room for others,
  13. Its April. "Oh we're not playing Buxton this month in case he gets hurt. We'll wait until August to play him." All fans would think what genius's the managment of the Twins is. NOT.
  14. I believe Ober needs to stay in the rotation. His injury this year was not arm related. The Twins currently have 3-4 starters who may not be back in 2024. They need to add long term starting pitching depth to their team.
  15. When looking at the last ten years of "pitcher of the year " award winners, only Berrios and Rogers made significant contributions. I am hoping for Varland to get added to that too very short list. Best of luck to him.
  16. I forgot about the lottery change. I had already been looking at who we could pass to get down to 11th or 12th if possible. Since we have a couple more Il's and walking wounded after this weekend that makes it more doable.
  17. That's a difference of about 1 out per game. I would trade that for the 1 run per game they cut out.
  18. No team has their starting pitchers as a group average 6 innings per game. So the Twins are pretty much pitching to the standard in baseball this year. As they were last year. Their team era is down over a run per game from last year. The total runs allowed is also down over a run per game. People may not like it but from a year over year look back they have been successful in handling the pitching staff this year. Considering how many pitchers have gone down with injuries, I would say chopping off a run per game allowed is pretty remarkable. Hitting is only down slightly. Last year they were 14th in scoring and this year they are 16th. Again considering all the injuries, this is pretty remarkable Do all the conditioning you want, but knee, elbow and shoulder injuries along with broken bones are more a sympton of doing too much rather than too little. I would have liked to have seen what this team could have accomplished with everyone healthy and am hoping to see what this team can accomplish next year with hopefully everyone healthy. But this site has been too negative instead of focusing on what has actually been done.
  19. Buxton maybe the best centerfielder this team has, but I would begin to transition him to playing right field more. As a centerfielder, he is constantly getting injured and has no value sitting on the injured list. A platoon of Celestine and perhaps Wallner, with Celestine playing center when he is in and Buxton moving to right. Is Celestine a better centerfielder than Buxton? NO. But he is better than an injured Buxton. With Wallner playing right when he is in and Buxton center. Maybe, just maybe we could Buxton up to a healthy 80-100 games this way. Larnach, I think has earned playing time in left. Or at least earned the right to play himself off the team. When he was healthy this year he was hitting in the heart of the order and doing well.
  20. I'm built for October. Sitting on the couch watching other teams play for the World Series.(actually I usually turn off baseball after the regular season ends)
  21. I think with Gray, Mahle & Maeda as the top 3 next year, then Ryan can be a very could 4. Like most players give him until his 3rd or 4th year to figure out who he really is. I think he will be a guy who can pitch 180-200 innings and give very consistent good starts.
  22. I think we have 3 categories for players this year. Did better than expected, injured or did worst than expected. Did better than expected: Duran, Gordon, Maranda, Arraez, Jax, Moran Injured - Everybody Did worst than expected - Everybody else
  23. Me thinks whatever the teams does in the way of sports specific training and nutrition, they try doing just the opposite of it. Obviously the organization wide protocols don't work.
  24. It's really great to see that we have 4 catching prospects among this group of hitters. We appear to have steady stream of hitting prospects throughout the system. It looks like we can have 2-3 prospects per year pushing for spots on the major league roster.
