  1. The part of that era that got me the most was definitely an ownership/budget thing. When the Twins were a winning team, they hardly sent any advance scouts out. I guess that's more a Sept or post season complaint than trading deadline, but you just reminded me.
  2. Give them the lead so you can get an up-close scouting report on the back end of their bullpen pre fire sale. Interesting philosophy.
  3. You'd think I'd remember that. Is that the year Bo and Boggs led off with back-to-back HRs? So old.
  4. This is the first time they've voted on DH, right?
  5. As a complete non-expert, I think a lack of fear might be his undoing.
  6. Saves. The greatest stat in baseball!
  7. Another hit and I'm not sure it matters.
  8. I just tuned in. Baseball is such a weird game. Gonzalez 4/4, but with 0 runs scored. Arguably the best individual performance but...barely affecting the overall score (1 RBI, I see).
  9. I'm in awe of how many free agents go to Wrigley and Fenway. The history is great, but they aren't exactly modern amenities.
  10. Contracts work both ways. Was there any indication, anywhere, that Kimbrel was ever interested in Minnesota? You can offer him dumptrucks of money, but if he doesn't want to play here that's his choice. Free agency isn't an auction.
  11. Aren't errors basically a part of A-level ball? The old joke being that the best place for a souvenir ball is to sit behind first base for all the throws that go into the bleachers.
  12. And in a market like SD, an added purpose of his contract is likely to serve as a magnet so other free agents consider the team. It's part on-the-field expense, part marketing, part recruitment. I'd say that's mostly the case for a mid to small market team.
  13. Questions I never thought I'd ask 3 months ago: Would signing Kimbrel for 2-3 years affect their ability to resign Odorizzi and/or Gibson. (Though I assume at least one of them walks.)
  14. Oh, right. And Pineda, a 5th starter.
  15. Everything is going right this year. June 3 and just one player on IL -- and a middle innings reliever at that? (Did I get that right, Mejia?)
  16. With Buxton, it's never a true sacrifice. Any contact might mean a hit.
  17. The Twins don't lead by 6. Global collapse imminent.
  18. Molitor would put him right back in the closer slot. Unless they picked up Belisle, again, that is.
  19. They have Soucheray. Every paper has a troll columnist. It's a requirement, or something.
  20. Littell is already on the 40-man, so this means an open spot again, right?
  21. Isn't this question backwards? When you're trying to buy, the selling is the one who sets the price.
  22. And Harper pitched a perfect inning averaging about 20 mph less than that per pitch.
  23. Depth is good. Competition makes good players better. Options are there for a reason.
