  1. If Stuart is returned to the Twins, does he have to be added to the 40 man?
  2. I wouldn't expect anything respected for a veteran who was demoted to AAA at any point in the year. I'd expect an A baller "with upside," (like the Lohse trade) though maybe you could get a AA player if the market for SP is strong.
  3. These lists are interesting in how they reflect the slow path to the minors, especially for the Latin American players who sign when super young.
  4. Maybe the manager should let him work out his kinks when there's a 5 run lead instead of using his best arms in those situations.
  5. Let's stop pretending that trades are one-sided affairs where one team "wins" and the other "loses." As for this transaction, it's the equivalent of a minor league signing.
  6. Santana hasn't made a single out or error for ATL yet. Hosed again.
  7. That look on his face when he looks up after hitting it is priceless. I'm not sure if he's excited or surprised.
  8. I think it's been Minnesota's past time as long as I can remember. It's just usually reserved for the weather.
  9. Who should pitch to Sano in the Derby, Tonkin or Gibson?
  10. Pure speculation, but he does seem destined for a bigger market, just personality wise. That was probably set in motion back when he got his first contract and all the related attention.
  11. I'm glad there's depth, but let's not forget how many MLB position players started at SS. On the current team, at least Dozier, Sano, Polanco, Santana, probably Escobar. In the past: Cuddyer, Plouffe, Joe Nathan...SS is a position "athletic types" get in A/AA and a lot changes with time. Depth is great, but don't mistake it for ready MLB talent. I'm never a fan of trading a MLB player under the premise that there's somebody "in the pipeline" unless it's an immediate upgrade. (I'm not opposed to trading MLB talent for other reasons.)
  12. He goes through waivers first, then back to original team. Then they could trade for him. Can they make a trade with BOS now, or did that have to be done before Opening Day?
  13. "Rule 5 pick Justin Haley has more or less proven his worth" I didn't realize you could do that in two MLB appearances. Considering Breslow has been used the least, it should be an easy choice. I wouldn't expect a move until we're at least to Santana's next start. You don't make the bullpen shorter right before starting a rookie #5 (after a bad start).
  14. I wonder if a lot of this offseason and now this are directly tied to waiting to hire the new front office until after the World Series. They just don't know the players they're working with yet.
  15. Vargas is either going to rake in AAA (because it's his 5th time there) or do the opposite out of exhaustion at the up/down, like Arcia. (That's the only Arcia comparison I'll make. I think one of Vargas' strengths is that he adjusts to situations, while Arcia's weakness is exactly that.)
  16. Agree there's no need for 2 long relievers (well, maybe with this staff), but I see zero reason to keep Haley in MLB. Maybe in a trade so they can send him to Rochester.
  17. Tonkin hasn't done anything to earn it, but I'd keep him on the 25 until May. Wimmers is then available when the inevitable release or injury happens in the pen. Does Wimmers have the arm for a long reliever?
  18. Instead let's call them studs and workhorses and... Actually, I agree. But the norm seems to be that's it's okay to use non-human descriptors all the time.
  19. There will be at least one injury by mid-May, so it's nothing to worry about. Even a strong rotation needs 8-9 legit candidates these days.
  20. If you're aiming for veteran presence, I don't think position matters. It's more about how they handle themselves in the locker room and on the bench than on the field.
  21. To me, all signs point to them preferring Gimenez, which I'm fine with. He hits as well as Castro... I'd like to see JRM pan out, but it looks like a wash between the two players right now. Maybe competition will bring out the best in everyone.
  22. Has there even been a whisper that Santiago won't be in the rotation?
