  1. Last year's team was uniquely balanced across the whole lineup. If there's a spot to improve, I'd like someone with a little more contact skills in the cleanup slot though. To me, Rosario is a classic 5th hitter. But I'm not sure who I'd put in 4th of the current roster. Maybe Kepler if he continues hitting 25-35 HR/yr.
  2. Sure. But why do you need to say that at all? The point of a trade is to be mutually beneficial to both teams.
  3. There's an interesting argument that, by signing Bumgarner, they actually increased the market demand for Ray...so that could be a reason. Not sure I buy it though.
  4. But they never played for Gardy.
  5. The Mets and Blue Jays are two great examples of teams who often "do whatever it takes" with free agent contracts. Both are often big spenders with little to show for it (in terms of winning percentage or post-season appearances).
  6. I know this is a joke, but this is exactly the difference between being a free agent and being under team control.
  7. Of course he has flaws. If he didn't he'd be in MLB. That's why the minor leagues exist.
  8. I dislike the whole concept of "winning" a trade. Teams don't make trades to "win" against their competitor GMs. It doesn't work like that. Both teams are seeking mutually beneficial deals. Otherwise trades wouldn't happen.
  9. New 2019 strategy: put a hitter with terrible splits between two mashers. Make the other team choose if a LOOGY is worth it. In other words: make your lineup worse for 1 batter, but better for the 2 that sandwich him.
  10. Imagine seeing Boston sign Perez this week.
  11. I hope so, but I think WAS will push hard for Donaldson.
  12. I'm open to them as placeholders. So much depends if Sano moves to 1B or where Kirilloff fits (replacing Rosario or at 1B).
  13. He can hit again if they make it to the WS.
  14. Pineda's always pitched pretty well. He's just never been healthy for any kind of stretch.
  15. The Twins can afford some bloated contracts, but I wouldn't take on 3 years of one. Familia was good when he was at his best. But he also has some baggage in his personal life doesn't he? Pass.
  16. If it's a total salary dump...I'd at least listen. But I'd rather sign/trade for several others first.
  17. Littel isn't going back to starting. They moved him to RP in AAA for a reason -- and it immediately had better results.
  18. Am I the only one who read the "pending a physical" line in the OP, then scrolled down to see that photo choice?
  19. I expect one significant SP yet and 1 SP project, similar to Perez last year who will compete for the 5th spot with the rookies.
  20. I notice there hasn't been a single mention of his stats on base stealing. I'm not really concerned (though I always want a gunner for that), but it's telling of how we both rate defense these days and how few teams run. I do think it was a bit a bit of a liability last year between Castro/Garver. Just not a serious one since nobody bothers with basestealing anyway.
  21. Castro didn't get a single AB in the post-season and I wouldn't be surprised if (fingers crossed on a return in 2020) Avila is the same. A solid signing at a decent price for a non-premium role on the team.
  22. Which was published 2 hours after I said this. (Maybe the STrib article was before that though.) Edit: Okay, I can't read the difference between AM/PM. Anyway, that still doesn't really change my original point, even if 1/3 of my original comment was reported somewhere.
  23. You don't get that rich by writing bad contracts. Just sayin'.
  24. I agree with both your comments and Mike Sixel's. But we also haven't even reached the Winter Meetings yet. It's waaay too early to judge the offseason.
