  1. San Diego is the new Miami in terms of how they treat new acquisitions (maybe not quite managers).
  2. "Free fall"=4 game losing streak. Besides, I thought the site consensus since the winning started was that this is, at best, a .500 team. Ride it out.
  3. I'm nitpicking on phrasing here, but in an era of defined bullpen roles, few teams have more than 1-2 arms they use in the 8th inning. The real problem is that the Twins 8th inning arms are really 7th inning arms. Any options from within are going to be 6th-7th inning arms as well either because they're rookies or because of their "talent ceiling" so, yes, trade. Bullpen pieces are often cheap, like an high A-baller or PTBNL, but they're also a crapshoot. Fuentes was perfect for the Twins in '10, but BP arms also tend to be streaky. I think they should upgrade, but I do wonder if Fien/Boyer could get hot again and it evens out. Odds of Boyer having 2 hot streaks, however, seems unlikely given his career.
  4. While the Twins #s are pretty bad, it's not like the league avg stats here are much to shoot for either. PH is a hard game with a small sample size for stats. How many PH appearances does the avg AL team make in a year? How do AL stats compare to NL?
  5. I could see a veteran bench bat too. More along the Offerman or Ruben Sierra no defensive role, likely DFA'd by July. In other words, they'll bring 1-2 non-impact veterans.
  6. It's a comparison to a position Morneau was in at the time, not to Morneau as a player's talent level. Part of the learning curve.
  7. I think the Twins are taking the same route they took with Hicks last year in AA/AAA and with previous players I forget. Arcia has proven he can hit MLB pitching, but not consistently. He has proven he can hit AAA pitching, but not consistently. He will get called up when he proves he can hit consistently, period. That, and Rosario (who looks good so far) is already starting to falter. It happens. Most prospects go up and down. Wait 'til there's a need. Arcia's problem feels like Morneau's in Year #2. He's used to destroying the opposition without the homework, so he doesn't put in the extra effort. Whenever it clicks that he can improve his game through additional effort or a different routine, it's going to be a good thing. By keeping him frustrated in AAA, the Twins are trying to force his hand.
