  1. Davis feels like Adam Dunn to me.
  2. I mostly agree with you, but I think the Twins Hall of Fame is where they get carried away more than on the retirement side. I'm neutral on retiring his number, but it's not my decision to make (and it shouldn't be).
  3. It's cool to see a real retirement with his first team instead of those silly one-day contracts.
  4. That's enough for me, thanks. I hear a lot of talk about "projection" but rarely if he'd actually done it.
  5. Has Polanco played anything besides SS in the minors?
  6. Grienke has professed respect for the Twins multiple times over the years. Still, I don't see it happening. I won't complain if it does, but I think signing pitchers to long term deals is basically throwing money away in the end. It's a long term commitment where only the few 1-3 years tends to actually pay off. (But I don't write the checks. Why should I complain if they're throwing money away.)
  7. Hate the unbalanced schedule, though those terrible DET teams of the early 2000s did basically hand the Twins some playoffs births in the process.
  8. Cost is only a fraction of my reason for not having cable. The big reason being that I don't want the 10,000 other shows I'd have to pay for at the same time. I just find it to be a strange arrangement. I mentioned the local broadcasts before (which would not affect this year at all) because it seems like a reasonable midway point. I'd also love to rant about the scheduling of post-season game timeslots to anybody listening. Or did they fix that already? I guess I don't know because I don't have cable.
  9. I understand that there are workarounds but that doesn't change the fact that it's ridiculous they expect you to need to use those or have a special subscription. As benefactors of their anti-trust position, I feel MLB should be required to broadcast these games in their local market. Kind of like the NFL does for cable games, if nothing else. Yes, I know their anti-trust thing is different than MLBs.
  10. Morneau is basically a backup these days because his body can't handle. Maybe he can survive an Eric Chavez-style second life but I think his days as a full-timer are over.
  11. It's ridiculous that you have to have cable.
  12. Great piece, great game. Damn, is it Spring Training yet?
  13. I feel like he'll change his mind and sign on for a part-time role. You can only take these quotes so far before they're completely removed of context and mood. I'd hate for people to judge everything I do on something I said spontaneously last month. If he won't take a PT role, so long and thank you. It's rare for a player to say they embrace not playing and, if he said he wanted a job but not to play would you want him? I guess I don't care either way. I think he's a fine 20-25th player on a roster. I do think they need a few vet bats on the team. I don't care if they start or what position they play, but people who have been through the grind and into the postseason offer a valuable perspective.
  14. I'm just surprised that baseball fans read Souhan.
  15. Of course not. That doesn't mean I think an NFL style penalty system like "assigning a first strike" should be applied. Penalties such as ejections, suspensions, etc, sure. Tokens denoting you did something wrong: no. That said, there's already a penalty for what you said. The batter takes first base. So I guess I am wrong.
  16. Ignoring the topic and hand but responding to general discussion: Penalties in baseball? Please no. Just...please, no.
  17. Over simplified language on my end, but when you trade for a need other teams are going to ask for the sky in return. It can be hard to get a fair deal.
  18. I respect the data but evaluating by position feel silly. Evaluate by bating order if nothing else. One team's catcher or 1B or is another team's 3B or RF. It's a team sport and evaluating by position is faulty.
  19. I hope this opens real dialogue--like should have happened with AP in NFL. Serious sad stuff, real issues that need attention and cultural talking pointing points instead of wedge issues.
  20. Only one bit of advice: never trade for need, never trade from surplus. Only trade because it's smart. Depth is key.
  21. He may have never been a "star," but he pitched 2 no hitters. Impressive career all around.
  22. I'll flag it for later. Bedtime now. I just had to comment after yesterday's thread because sometimes these things get blown so far out of proportion.
  23. Without reading, what is "so many confrontations"? Because, really, there are thousands if not millions of ABs each year and probably 25-50 confrontations. That seems like a miniscule percentage.
  24. Without checking records, 2009 (was that the last year int he Dome) may have too. Morneau and Kubel had 30, I think, and I imagine Cuddyer was at least 20.
