  1. I agree that if the "think" he will, but there's no way to know that for sure if it's based on something minor. There's still a chance whatever the mystery red flag is wouldn't matter in the end. Gotta balance your risks.
  2. But if there's a 55% chance Garcia goes on the DL, this makes sense to me.
  3. I can't imagine the Twins give up a SP. You usually don't trade from an area of weakness.
  4. Does Gee have an opt-out date? I thought I heard that when he signed.
  5. I'm concerned that Molitor keeps throwing Duffey out there in leverage situations when he clearly has issues he needs to work out.
  6. Young players struggle--it should be expected, so I think it's an overstatement to call him a disappointment. That he's playing mostly MLB caliber ball is big. I'd say the biggest disappointments would be Santiago, Gibson or Belisle.
  7. I keep trying, but I'm just not a fan of the Derby. I even went in person at Target Field. It's just so repetitive. That said, I'm glad (and not surprised) to see Sano have a big showing.
  8. You don't rebuild by trading your youngest players, even if they aren't performing.
  9. I'm curious how often the #1 pick goes to a newly hired GM. I'd guess fairly often.
  10. I was being sarcastic earlier and it's impossible to know what Berrios learned in MLB in 2016 vs in AAA in 2017 vs maturity or fortitude or whatever you want to call it. I think it makes sense to try young arms in a "nothing to lose" sense when you're at the bottom of the division (see 2016), but the scenario right now is just too different. Generally speaking, I'd be hesitant to do a straight AA to MLB promotion on anyone with less than half a season at AA.
  11. I agree with the first half of this, but no Twins player not named Miguel will land an ace. It takes package deals of 2+ top prospects for an ace, sometimes 3-5. I think Granite shows promise, but he'll get his chance. These things tend to work themselves out as the season progresses.
  12. We're lucky there hasn't been a major injury to a starter yet. That time will likely come. It does seem that Vargas would have to be the one sent down, unless they drop a pitcher...which is unlikely with this bullpen. Maybe there will be a 2-for-1 trade around the break to solve the roster crunch.
  13. Except that he retooled his pitching approach prior to this year, so previous season splits may not be relevant anymore...assuming he hasn't reverted to old habits.
  14. I wonder how much of this is because of the scenario when they made their first appearances. Most of the other emergency call-ups have been thrown into the fire because arms where needed NOW. Similar cases for these two, but apperance #1 was in a much calmer time of the game, not being called mid-inning to stop a rally before a game gets out of control.
  15. While I think a 3 year is a little long for his age, a 3 year deal will never bury a team even if they ends up eating it. And $7mil isn't that much money in MLB terms. I'd say he's worth as much as Castro, albeit at a different position. Sign whoever they can that's competent for the next 2-4 years, as long as the bankroll leaves room for Sano and Buxton extensions.
  16. It's nice to see a rookie get his debut in the 9th instead of thrown into the fire for once.
  17. Good piece, I love the human elements. This line begs all kinds of questions, though: "Back then, the culture the Twins had with promotions was something special." What is it now?
  18. Yesterday is on Molitor more than Belisle. At this point, he should only be pitching in mopup until he shows something. It's a curious bullpen this year in that they don't seem to blow many games. It's more than when they blow them, it's a spectacular failure.
  19. I've never seen a call for a third catcher before under the guise that it "adds flexibility" to the roster. Man, this team needs some reliable arms so they can downsize the bullpen and get a real bench.
  20. Getting a solid starter (even a #6) would help this team so much right now. Add one more reliable bullpen arm, and then they can reduce the bullpen size by one. A bigger bench is needed for the stretch when players start to tire out. And also for when you need a real pinch hitter. I wonder if Falvey's philosophy is that #5 pitchers grow on trees/waivers and you can float by without investing in a specific one. It's working (somehow) so far.
  21. I don't think you can trade recently drafted players either. There's (at least used to be) a waiting period of 6 or 12 months after signing.
