  1. To all the Twins fans around the world, welcome to another Game Thread extravaganza! This is probably the best area on Twins Daily to experience our members' unique wit and wisdom around baseball and the Minnesota Twins. The banter on Game Threads are quick and always snappy. Settle in for a great game, some bad jokes and a fun time....and please don't be afraid to participate. I know this is obvious but a win today for the Twins means a sweep against the Indians. It's great to see this team starting to get their offense going. It couldn't be happening at a better time...Look out White Sox! We're coming for you...4 games starting tomorrow. My crystal ball sees the Twins running away with the division after we win today and sweep the White Sox this week. I think the Twins win the division by 4 games. Not that it really matters, we will be in the playoffs anyway. I'm more concerned about everyone being healthy for the playoff run (that means you Kepler, Garver, Arraez, etc.). Pineda is gonna have a big day and my pick to click is Mr. Sano. Oh, almost forgot to pass along a non-baseball related public service announcement. I made a meatloaf last night and cooked it on the grill over a cedar wood plank. Turned out great! If you've never cooked meatloaf on the grill give it a try. You'll be in for a real treat! Go Twins! Todays Starting Lineups: Twins: 1. Max Kepler (RF) 2. Josh Donaldson (3B) 3. Jorge Polanco (SS) 4. Nelson Cruz (DH) 5. Eddie Rosario (LF) 6. Miguel Sano (1B) 7. L. Wade (CF) 8. M. Gonzalez (2B) 9. Ryan Jeffers © SP - Michael Pineda 1-0 (2.77 ERA) RHP Cleveland: 1. F. Lindor (SS) 2. C. Hernandez (2B) 3. J. Ramirez (3B) 4. C. Santana (1B) 5. F. Reyes (DH) 6. T. Naquin (RF) 7. J. Naylor (LF) 8. S. Leon © 9. O. Mercado (CF) SP - Triston McKenzie 2-0, (2.57 ERA) RHP Game Time Weather: 73 degrees and partly cloudy, winds light and variable. 0% chance of rain.
  2. Good afternoon and welcome to more Twins Daily Game Thread action! I had a whole different introduction planned for tonight but guess what? My plans changed. They changed for the better...my vendor came in from out of town and invited me to play golf today. Teeing off in 1 hour! Can't say I play golf very well but I like the free drinks that will come with it today! It's 90+ degrees in Minneapolis today so I'll probably drop a few pounds too. Seems like a win, win proposition to me. Now a win, win, win proposition would be the Twins putting (no golf pun intended) a thumping on the Indians tonight. Tonights Lineups: Twins: 1. Max Kepler (RF) 2. Jorge Polanco (SS) 3. Nelson Cruz (DH) 4. Eddie Rosario (LF) 5. M. Gonzalez (3B) 6.Luis Arraez (2B) 7. Miguel Sano (1B) 8. Lamonte Wade (CF) 9. Alex Avila © SP Jose Berrios Indians: 1. C. Hernandez (2B) 2. Jose Ramirez (3B) 3. F. Lindor (SS) 4. C. Santana (1B) 5. F. Reyes (DH) 6. Tyler Naquin (RF) 7. Greg Allen (LF) 8. R. Perez © 9. D. DeShields (CF) SP Mike Clevinger
  3. Here’s a breakdown of what was known about the schedule going into Monday’s release: All teams will play 10 games against each team in their division, so 2/3rds of their schedule will be against division opponents. The other 20 games will be played against the corresponding regional division in the National League. For the Twins, this means playing teams from the NL Central. Out of those 20 games, six will be with the closest natural rival. For the Twins, this means playing the Brewers six times. Every team has six total off-days throughout the season. Before the full schedule was released, fans learned the Twins would be opening the 2020 season on the north side of Chicago against the White Sox. This likely means a pitching match-up of Jose Berrios versus Lucas Giolito starting at 7:10 Central. Chicago is expected to be better this season after adding some key pieces, but most prognosticators have them slated to finish third in the AL Central. After three games in Chicago, the Twins have an eight-game home-stand that includes two games with the Cardinals, four games against Cleveland, and two games versus the Pirates. Minnesota’s next eight games are on the road with two games at Pittsburgh, three games in Kansas City, and three game in Milwaukee. Next on the schedule is seven home games against the Royals (4 games) and Brewers (3 games). From there, the club goes on the road for 10-games with three in Kansas City, three games in Cleveland, and four games in Detroit. Following this, the club heads home for seven games with three against the White Sox and four against the Tigers. Also included in Minnesota’s final month of the schedule is two games in St. Louis, before coming home to face Cleveland in what could be a pivotal series in deciding the division winner. Minnesota’s last road trip includes four games against the White Sox and three games against the Cubs. This allows the team to end the year at Target Field with two games versus Detroit and three games versus Cincinnati. Notes on the schedule: The Twins get seven home games against Cleveland which means the Twins will only play in Cleveland for three games. Minnesota’s inter-league schedule includes six games against Milwaukee, four against Pittsburgh, four against St. Louis, three against the Cubs, and three against the Reds. In September, 15 of their 23 games are against AL Central opponents. August might be their easiest month with 18 of their 29 games against the Pirates, Tigers, and Royals. 4. The Twins 2020 schedule was only released last week and now MLB has released the 2021 schedule with the thought that teams will be able to play 162-games. This might be a big assumption on the part of MLB because it will like only happen, if there is a widely available COVID-19 vaccine. The current season is in jeopardy because of the current state of our nation. However, let’s take a dive into the 2021 season and see what it could mean for your potential 2020 World Series Champions and their chances for a repeat.Minnesota is scheduled to start the season on a six-game road trip with three games in Milwaukee and Detroit. This allows for the Twins to open at home as part of a three-game series versus Seattle on April 8. The Twins than face off against the Red Sox for four games before heading to the West Coast for six games split between the Angels and the Athletics. From there the Twins have a tough stretch in June with a back-to-back series with the Yankees and the Astros from June 8-13. Some other important series include the an interleague series with the Reds from June 21-22. Then in June, the Angles and Mike Trout, the best player of all-time, come back to Minneapolis for three games (July 22-25). The end of August also provides a critical part of the schedule against National League foes. After starting the year in Milwaukee, the Twins will face-off with the Brewers for three games in Minnesota. Milwaukee is going to be a strong team in 2020 and this could continue in 2021. At the end of August, Minnesota is scheduled to play the Cubs at Target Field. Obviously, there are plenty of important series against other AL Central squads. That being said, there are plenty of questions about what the future might hold for baseball. Will Cleveland continue to trade away pieces? How will the White Sox adjust to being contenders? Are the Royals and the Tigers going to rise in the years to come? 2021 Important Dates: Opening Day: April 1 at Milwaukee Home Opener: April 8 vs. Seattle Trout Visits MN: July 22-25 Milwaukee at MN: August 27-29 Cubs at MN: August 31- September 1 Last Home Series: Tigers from September 28-30 Final Series: Twins @ Royals on October 1-3 Do you think the Twins will play a full schedule in 2021? 6. http://www.kidsmathgamesonline.com/images/pictures/numbers600/number14.jpg Good morning Twins fans and welcome back to another exciting game thread extravaganza! After last night's big win our magic number now stands at 14! If we can manage to beat up Clevinger and the Indians today our magic number would reach 12. Despite the nice win yesterday we still faced some unfortunate news regarding one of our better pitchers. Big Mike Pineda will be going away for awhile...a 60 game suspension is not something I really wanted to see at the moment but I think this team will prevail. If you're nervous and frustrated I posted a few soothing links that will put your mind at ease. Let's start with some light happy music. The Twins are in first place! If you lived in the Twin Cities back in 87 and 91 and listened to KQRS this should bring back some good memories. This clip also has the pennant polka and the Twins team song. Turn up the volume on your computer and relax a little. http://www.radiotapes.com/Airchecks/Twins_1987_Music.mp3 If the above music still didn't put your anxiety in check maybe this tune will do it. The song seems fitting since today is a Sunday and it's still morning when I posted this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DSVMDmzCcA Hopefully these links work! If not, my whole thread just got flushed down the toilet...It's ok though. I'm relaxed and fully expecting the Twins to win the division, smoke the Astros and destroy the Yankees with or without Big Mike Pineda. P.S. Today's lineup is interesting... Let's go Twins!!! 7. Good morning Twins fans and welcome back to another nerve-racking, nail biting game thread! Just to be clear, I looked up the word "nerve-racking" and the way I spelled it is the traditional way although nerve-wracking is acceptable now too. Note to Mods: It would be nice if TD could offer some editorial assistance with our intro's. I know TD only pays me $1,200 for each game thread intro but a little help would be nice for the paltry sum we get compensated for the effort...Just sayin'. Speaking of money, I have to fly to Las Vegas in a few hours for a work event. I do plan on laying some cash down for the Twins to win the whole thing this year. I just looked up the odds and the Twins are about 14/1 odds of winning the World Series. I think that translates to almost a 6% chance of winning the whole thing. I'll actually take those odds. After the last decade in purgatory I'm an excited fan. Another win today and we're back to a 2 game lead! I'd like to write more but need to head to the airport shortly and stop at an ATM machine. When I walk off that plane and pull up my MLB app I fully expect to see another win for our Twins. I'll then be making a bee line directly to the sport book at the hotel/casino. Get ready Twins fans! I'm betting this is our year! Go Twins!! Twinssporto Chairman and CEO of the 2019 Minnesota Twins World Champions Fan Club Lineups: TWINS: 1. Max Kepler CF 2. Jorge Polanco SS 3. Miguel Sano 3B 4. 8. As of right now, the Twins are on pace to finish with 99.5 wins. But is that the pace they are really on? No, and here's why not. On June 2nd, the Twins were 40-18, and the Indians were 29-30. Since then the Twins are 30-26 and the Indians are 39-16. So, considering the pace on which teams have been on since June 2nd, the Twins are actually on pace for 95.7 wins, while the Indians are on pace for 102 wins. A hell of a slide, and quite a comedown, right? But naturally this can and will change as the season grinds, or marches, or trips on its own two feet, or flies like a headfirst dive safely into second -- going forward.
  9. I was sitting quietly, minding my own business, imbibing some game thread inspiration when, wouldn't you know it, someone thought they should tell me my behavior was inappropriate. I looked at the interloper with a steely glaze and asked them who they thought they were, interrupting my contemplation of a very important matter? I further explained that drinking inspiration is a time-honored method of writing and how dare they question my methods? Next thing I knew, I was on the street, my meager possessions in hand and cursing the busybody who dared question my methods. I guess I shouldn't have been drinking amber colored liquid from a cut glass tumbler during working hours in front of the boss. It's been a nice break from baseball, though, I admit some withdrawal symptoms. But, I was able to get my baseball fix through Twins Daily, which helped get me through those rough moments. Call it, "Methadone for Fans." "Fanadone?" The Twins are at Cleveland and I look forward to this series. I hope the Twins can pick up a game against Cleveland but, there's no way I can claim to be other than nervous about this series. Still, though, it's going to be fun to watch and I'm really looking forward to it. As, I'm sure, are a lot of Twins fans. And now, it's that time we all look forward to in Game Threads! 5 Things To Think About! 1. Ice in top shelf whiskey: Abomination or abomination?2. Cold beer, cool beer or warm beer? 10. Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the Twins Daily game thread experience. Let me begin by saying everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax! It's not time to panic yet! By the way, did you read the thread Brock started the other day about "it's time to panic"? Loved it. Made me laugh out loud. But seriously, the two game losing streak the Twins have been on stops today. We have our big boy Ace Berrios throwing tonight and our lineup looks ready to again score a bunch of runs. I know our bullpen is the weakest link at the moment. However, I feel confident this front office will bring in reinforcements soon. The way this team is structured right now they are poised to make a long run into the playoffs if they can just tighten up the relievers. This Twins are gonna be rolling over teams all year. So what, they hit a little snag with the Indians...last week they killed the Rays. I personally think the Rays are better than Cleveland anyway. The Twins are going to beat up on Cleveland tonight. Looking forward to watching it! Relax, all is well. All is well (except for our bullpen). Go Twins! Tonights Lineups: TWINS: 1. Max Kepler CF 2. Jorge Polanco SS 3. Mitch Garver "Sauce" DH 4. 11. http://in2english.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/turkey.jpg Welcome back to another exciting Twins Daily game thread! The place where snappy conversation and arm chair quarterbacking are the norm. A place where fun banter and the occasional friendly jab at your Twins Daily counterparts is not only encouraged but allowed (please note I said friendly jab). Before we post the lineups tonight, I wanted to share with you, our gentle readers some things I was pondering at work today. I know we're still 6 months away from Thanksgiving but for some reason I'm just feeling thankful today for our Minnesota Twins. I started to think about all the disappointment and anguish we've endured as a fan base the last 8+ years and it's made me think about all the things I'm thankful for with this organization right now. In fact, I think I appreciate these things even more than I did in the past (kind of like the guy who appreciates a cold glass of water after a long hike in the hot desert). Please indulge me as I list out below a small list of things I'm thankful for regarding the Minnesota Twins: We have a 10.5 game lead over the Indians (soon to be 11.5 after tonight. Bet on it!)The Twins have the 2nd best record in baseballWe have a team that leads the league in runs scoredWe have a team that ranks #5 in the American league in pitching (based on ERA)Polanco ranks 2nd in batting average in the ALRosario is tied for 1st in AL with most home Runs and tied for 1st in RBI'sWe have two pitchers ranked in the top 5 in the AL with most wins (Berrios and Odorizzi) Perez will be in the top 5 after tonightOdorizzi is ranked 1st in the AL with the lowest ERA (1.97)Polanco and Buxton are in the top 5 in the AL with WAR (3.5 and 2.3 respectively)Minnesota ranks 4th in the AL, 6th in the entire league in fielding percentage Cruz and Garver are back in the lineupI think we have a very good pitching coachOur front office brain trust seems to know what they're doing (please sign Kimbrel) Sorry about the list above. I meant to keep it short but there's a lot to be thankful for at the moment. I'm just going to enjoy this time while it lasts and dream about the short days of late October. By the way, might as well post my menu for Thanksgiving a little early. 3 Turkey's: One on the Big Green Egg, One in the deep fryer and one in the oven Scalloped corn Oyster stuffing Sweet potato casserole Green bean casserole Garlic mashed potatoes Cranberry sauce 10 different pies 20 bottles of wine 5 bottles of Scotch (to get through until the family leaves) There is lot's to be excited about and thankful for this year people! 13. Game Thread: Indians @ Twins, 6/3 @ 1:10 CT Probable Starters: Mike Clevinger (4-2, 3.14 ERA) vs Kyle Gibson (1-3, 3.57 ERA) - 4 Thoughts - 1. Arbitrary Twins splits I love the excess amount of splits Baseball Reference has for each player. Let’s pull out some arbitrary splits for our starting hitters for the 2018 season. Mitch Garver Home- .734 OPS Away- .585 OPS - Miguel Sano In Wins- .970 OPS In Losses- .614 OPS - Brian Dozier 6th Inning- 1.402 OPS 9th Inning- .301 OPS - Ehire Adrianza (Career) July- .280 B.A. March-April- .216 B.A. - Eduardo Escobar In a 2-1 Count- 1.364 OPS In a 1-2 Count- .268 OPS - Logan Morrison 2 Outs, RISP- .931 OPS Within 1 Run- .579 OPS - Eddie Rosario Vs Blue Jays- 1.462 OPS Vs Yankees- .154 OPS - Max Kepler 2 outs- .987 OPS 0 outs- .665 OPS - Robbie Grossman (Career) In Wins- 103/164 BB/K In Losses- 120/235 BB/K - Well, I hope you’ve learned a thing or two from these totally random splits! - 2. Cleveland’s bullpen Gaze upon their stats and despair: Look at those ERAs! This is bad… you can tell the situation is dire because they’re trying old Twins retreads (Belisle and Ramirez). The usual gang, Otero, McAllister, and Olsen have been surprising pedestrian. And it’s not like retaining Bryan Shaw would have helped – he’s got a 5.72 ERA and 1.52 WHIP (oh, and he’s leading the league in games appeared for the third straight season!!). At this point, the Indians would love to have the Twins’ bullpen over what they have. - But what could they do? They did just pick up Oliver Perez, a 36-year-old reliever who posted a 4.64 ERA in 33 innings with the Nationals last year, though it was backed up by a 3.82 FIP, 10.6 K/9, and 1.33 WHIP. It’s a step in the right direction, but they should search the trade market for another option. - 3. Lineups CLEVELAND 1. Francisco Lindor (S) SS 2. Michael Brantley (L) LF 3. Jose Ramirez (S) DH 4. Edwin Encarnacion ® 1B 5. Jason Kipnis (L) 2B 6. Yan Gomes ® C 7. Greg Allen (S) RF 8. Bradley Zimmer (L) CF 9. Erik Gonzalez ® 3B TWINS 1. Brian Dozier ® 2B 2. Eddie Rosario (L) LF 3. Miguel Sano ® 3B 4. Logan Morrison (L) 1B 5. Eduardo Escobar (S) SS 6. Max Kepler (L) RF 7. Robbie Grossman (S) DH 8. Ryan LaMarre ® CF 9. Bobby Wilson ® C - 4. Strat-O-Matic Baseball Yes, it’s time for another round of Strat-O-Matic Baseball simulation! As the Twins game progresses in reality, I will be synchronously playing a round of Strat-O-Matic baseball with the same two teams using their stats. I will upload a picture of my setup of the game: As you can see, I’ve developed my own way to simulate the game instead of using the typical cards for each player. The 2018 player cards won’t be available until the end of the year and they’re somewhat expensive, so I’ll use my makeshift methods and see if the result can mimic what happens today. In a game thread last year, here’s what happened: Real life: HOU 5, MIN 3; Strat-O-Matic: HOU 8, MIN 7 - After every half-inning is over, I’ll post what happened over here in Strat-O-Land. Let’s see if we can get a win at Target Field and in the board game!
  14. Good morning and welcome to the always popular, often talked about Twins Daily Game Thread! I'm feeling the pressure already building as I write this introduction. Unfortunately, yesterday's game was rained out. There is now a real pent up demand to watch Twins baseball and actively participate in the Game Thread today. Even though this game will be played over the noon hour and during most peoples regular work schedules, I'm confident the fans will be out in droves today. Yesterday's rainout got me thinking about days off and playing hooky. In a way, the rainout yesterday may have benefitted our ball club as they have struggled the last few games. I think the guys just needed a day off to clear their heads and relax a little. Popular wisdom now says that taking a day off occasionally or "playing hooky" from work or school can actually help our productivity and strengthen our mental health. In the spirit of that thought, I am recommending to everyone reading this to take the day off! Play hooky! Find the game on TV, listen to it on the radio and post along on the Game Thread with your other Twins fan brethren. In case you have never played hooky before let me give you some good advice: 1. If your already at work, fein diarrhea. No body wants to discuss that and it should get you out the door and into a bar watching the Twins. Make sure wherever you decide go after leaving work its far enough away so you don't run into anyone from the office. 2. If you're at home and want to call in, use the same excuse as #1 above. Again, is your boss really going to quiz you on this? I highly doubt it. Besides, its a much better excuse than saying my garage door doesn't open, I broke the key in my door, my aunt died, etc. 3. Stay off social media. That means no tweets, FaceBook, etc. It's probably ok to post on the Game Thread though. 4. Remember what Ferris Bueller said about playing hooky: "The question isn't what are we going to do. The question is what aren't we going to do." Think in those terms and your self induced day off could manage to be a lot of fun! Oh yeah, almost forgot a great reason to watch or listen to the game today. One of the hottest pitchers in MLB right now is starting today. He even plays for the Twins! Go Ervin! LINEUPS: TWINS: TBD INDIANS: TBD Game time weather: Cloudy to partly cloudy. 0% of precipitation. 47 degrees.
  15. http://www.espn.com/media/mlb/2001/0810/photo/a_boudreau_i.jpg As the Twins currently have a manager who was a Hall of Fame player and as the Minnesota Wild has hired someone named Boudreau, I figured a question about a Hall of Fame player who managed named Boudreau was mildly topical... In his 16 major league sasons as a manager, Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau managed 16 eventual Hall of Famers. Who were they?
  16. Here's a link to the Hardball Talk post about Cristian Guzman getting released by the Indians. With the Twins middle infield need for a backup shortstop, its seems plausible that they would look into bringing the ex-Twins infielder back in 2012.
