  1. "ownership family" Cherrypick terms much? I have things in common with my father, yes. I'm also very different.
  2. And Thome wasn't much of a DH. He could still hit with the best of them, but he was a serious roster liability. He couldn't run, at all. He played about 6 innings per game before the pinchrunner took over, and he couldn't play 3 days in a row. imo, he was more of a bench piece than a DH. But you're right. It's been rare.
  3. What about a P in the NL. When they get 20 AB does their "position" change? I don't like that aspect at all. If a team wants to carry 15 pitchers, let them. They're the ones who have to deal with no bench. In short, if a rule change raises more questions than it answers, it's probably a bad rule. Simplicity is good is baseball. If you want "what ifs" watch the NFL. I'm curious if the 26-person roster rule changes for doubleheaders (and, similarly, the 13 pitchers rule).
  4. Now teams can tank even earlier and, when the Twins are below .500, the season is over even sooner. I don't get how this one helps the league.
  5. Then they claim an injury, just like the NFL does when they need a free timeout.
  6. This is such a nonissue.
  7. Good stats, but MLBTR's use of "extreme fly ball" pitcher has me concerned. Maybe that doesn't matter with the Twins' OF defense and the division having somewhat hitter neutral parks.
  8. Would adding the TrackMan radar add time or speed up the game? Now, for my old-man-yells-at-cloud moment, can they also discuss getting rid of instant replay? I think these proposals are all pretty reasonable compared to other ideas that have been floated. I don't like the 3 batter limit or the penalty system, but it's not up to me. (And it's not like the sport doesn't already have penalties for balks and HBP.)
  9. I'm intrigued because he's a lefty and they generally hold up better with lower velocity, etc, but after watching last year's late signings I'd be extremely hesitant.
  10. I assume he'd either need a "legit" injury, or to accept a minor league assignment to stay at extended ST> They could, of course, discuss that assignment issue in contract negotiations.
  11. How do you figure? 2 years ago everybody on this board was in a huffy because Polanco was getting reps in AAA at 2B instead of SS. That sounds like a move for the future to me.
  12. Because the internet has a 48-hour attention span. I'm pretty sure nobody on the Twins has forgotten him.
  13. Congrats to Berrios and I'm damn excited about Opening Day. Now can we stop calling every non-opinion piece "breaking news"?
  14. I understand the sentiment, but that's exactly what you trade a fringe 40-man roster player for: a player who isn't going to be a 40-man roster candidate for 2-3 years. Trading him for another player on the cusp of MLB wouldn't solve the issue that lead to his hitting the wire in the first place.
  15. 2 paragraphs after your selected quote: "Sometimes, you open yourself up to other people and kind of go that direction, but it seems like he’s very, very happy with the work he was able to get in this offseason, and as a staff we’re extremely happy as well from everything that we saw," manager Rocco Baldelli said.
  16. Out of proportion and out of context. I read the article. All MLB player (of all ages) get constant advice from everyone. Just like you and I get advice from our co-workers. Some of it is good advice, some is bad. As you gain experience, you learn to filter it. That's what he said in this article. In MLB, everybody think they are a hitting coach. Other players have said the same thing, using different words. I do have questions about why the author reported his quote as he did, using words like "nuttin'" instead of actual words, like "nothin'". To me, that's the unprofessional behavior here.
  17. Meh. The reporter asked a question; he answered. I wouldn't read into any baseball quotes like this. They're based on whatever was happening that day and aren't meant as an archive.
  18. Agree on Meyer, disagree on May. Revere became a journeyman, though he had 1-2 productive seasons yet at that point.
  19. Just a note, but for those who took Spanish in high school: the "gender" of a word does not necessarily reflect the gender of the subject. "La tortuga" refers to a turtle, regardless of gender.
  20. I have to go with a position player. I feel like offensive stats are higher than pitching in ST.
  21. https://youtu.be/gjHOtxCRhnw
  22. How dare they humanize prospects. He's supposed to be a workhorse, a stud, a GOAT.
  23. I agree that Baldelli is busy right now, but does one really "manage" a ST game? I mean, everything is planned in advance isn't it, including pitching changes, substitutions, etc. Besides Matt LeCroy as a pinch runner, of course.
  24. He's still young and growing.
