  1. When is the last time the Mets made a good trade? As others have said, I just don't want Cano. Maybe for 1-2 years, but no way on 5.
  2. I thought Barlett retired, in part, because he didn't want that travel schedule anymore. Maybe I remember it wrong, though.
  3. Sorta related, Justin Haley just signed with a Korean team. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/tommy-joseph-signs-korea-justin-haley-kbo.html
  4. This is interesting, but irrelevant. The graphic design team doesn't write the lineup cards. This is just marketing to drum up some excitement (or discussion) during the offseason. And I don't disagree with your latter statement, but you put the catch in your own response too ("unless something else comes up").
  5. Picking somebody up on the waiver wire in November is pretty far from guaranteeing them a roster spot. If another player comes along, they cut bait and move on.
  6. You have to get to the playoffs first. If he can give 20 quality starts it's valuable, no matter what his ERA is in Yankee Stadium. But I'm also a firm believer that MLB playoffs are as much about who is hot at the right time as they're about who has the best team. (In other words, mediocrity can win on any given day.) I'd take a flyer on him as long as it's a middle level prospect. But I'm also apprehensive about pitchers who thrived in Oakland. They don't seem to do well outside of that stadium.
  7. I wonder if people would even notice the Rule V draft if it didn't take place during the lull before winter meetings.
  8. Gonsalves is the kind of return a team gets in a fire sale, not a rebuild.
  9. What are the reports on the hiring process. Are these Rocco's picks, the FO's, or a mutual agreement kind of thing?
  10. I don't see the appeal in Herrera, besides that he was a closer at one time. He hasn't been very good the last 2 years, including a year and half in the Central.
  11. I think a rotation of 4 OF/DH could work, and I love Cutch as a player, but I don't think he's a difference maker at this point in his career--at least statistically. Maybe his attitude is a difference maker in the locker room. He has a good rep. Personally, I'd like an impact bat to slot between #3-5 in the lineup every day, perhaps Donaldson or Cruz. If Cutch is still available in a couple months, I'd reconsider.
  12. Signing a 3B to a 1 year deal might also light a fire under Sano. (Or it might not, but I hope something will.)
  13. It's just smell test, not data-driven, but I haven't liked what I've seen of Herrera the past 2 seasons.
  14. If the Yankees make a play on Gonzalez I think the Twins are priced out pretty quick.
  15. Agreed. Morrison is much more of a Ryan signing.
  16. That's banking on a lot of players with a spotty record of injuries in recent years. But I appreciate the list either way.
  17. It seems the vast majority of Rule 5 players to stick are pitchers. I wonder if that's part of why the Twins, for example, are so disproportionately pitcher-to-position-player when it comes to their 40 man roster. If so, that's an unfortunate side effect.
  18. He won't see any of them with his own eyes until Spring Training, so they'd better not wait that long.
  19. I disagree. No defenses play 100% with a big lead. The Vikings score against Buffalo, for a recent example.
  20. Basing NFL defenses on stats is never going to tell the complete story, since most 4th quarter football is garbage time or 2-minute offense, both of which drive up the yards (and often points).
  21. Good with Escobar. I'm not going to speculate on why he signed where he did for how much. There's no point in guessing what I'll never know. I'd consider Kinsler on a one-year deal. His defense would shore up the IF and if he's done hitting, he's expendable if Gordon turns a corner during the year.
  22. Agreed. Sometimes when you change jobs you see things from a new perspective. Even if it was right in front of your eyes before. Going from a losing clubhouse to a winning clubhouse will do that.
  23. I think Polanco's consistency with the bat was another big one. No sophomore slump, which is rare.
  24. I wouldn't expect Mejia to be "given" anything. If so, he would've been in the rotation this year.
