  1. This is going to be a fun quote to dig out 5 years from now for somebody.
  2. Look at the box score. Gary Sanchez had the only hit today. Seems like an odd player to make the scapegoat.
  3. I think this is the case. Nobody is grabbing Rodriguez on waivers so he's a safe add/drop.
  4. What's terrible about that contract for Justin Upton? He was getting paid $28M this season. I'd say that was an awesome contract situation for him. Is he better than adding Kyle Garlick to the roster? Probably not.
  5. Arraez isn't a bad option to play 1B. He's certainly a better defender than Sano. A utility player with a bat like Arraez should be able to find a spot in the lineup nearly every day rotating through 3B, 1B, 2B and DH. The Twins have seen a lot of lefty starters so far.
  6. Relief pitching is more important now but individual relievers are pitching even less. Rogers would throw around 60 innings this season if he stays healthy. He was great in 2019 but so was Pagan
  7. Using the rookies as a long reliever gives them development in the majors while slowly increasing innings from their current low totals. It also keeps salaries down through arbitration - which could be part of the strategy.
  8. It's almost 1 standard deviation above average for a starting pitcher. That's a solid #3 / borderline #2. Remember that ERA+ includes all the relief pitchers too.
  9. That's until after the World Series or 90 days, whichever is longer. The Padres did sign a bunch of international free agents in the past 90 days. Padres sign several players on the international market (eastvillagetimes.com)
  10. With 16 pitchers on the roster they can have one pitcher throw 4 innings, the next throw 3 innings and then have 2 relievers finish the game. You can do that every game for 4 consecutive games and not use the same pitchers twice.
  11. It is strange to see the Twins sending money to the Padres. I hope the PTBNL is one of the Padres college pitcher draft picks from last summer.
  12. I fully endorse this idea, especially with the huge pitching staff allowed by the April roster rules.
  13. Why sign the best player in free agency at a position of need to a below market contract? I can't imagine what they were thinking. Even if the goal is rebuilding they just added the best deadline trade chip in the whole league.
  14. Pagan has been mostly mediocre except the season he spent with the Rays. I'm convinced the Rays were using grip enhancers to cheat, I can't explain their assembly line success with mediocre relievers any other way.
  15. This still doesn't clear a spot on the 40 man for Kyle Garlick. 2 players on the roster for 2 players on the roster.
  16. Rooker is also headed to San Diego. Rooker for Pagan is a decent trade. Paddack for Rogers is a decent trade. None of these feel like they're finished tinkering with the roster.
  17. Lefties tend to do poorly in Target Field, especially flyball pitchers. Having a lefthanded starter is okay but it can't just be any lefthanded starter.
  18. I'm okay with trading Rogers if they also get Dinelson Lamet.
  19. If they want Upton they will get him for the league minimum.
