  1. Ohtani has me intrigued. He should pitch one of those days.
  2. They do consistently underperform when it comes to infield defense. Correa won a Platinum glove and this season he was slightly above average.
  3. Gray just gave them $8M in surplus value this season. He's a good bet to repeat his performance next season or could return prospects in trade if they go that route instead. They definitely spent some prospect capital this season but Gray has at least contributed positively.
  4. They were in first place until the end of August. This team is a long ways away from being a World Series contender but they could win the AL Central with a little better health and a little development from the younger players. I'm not sure they should try to just win the AL Central. They feel like the 2020-21 Reds but I might just be saying that because they have most of the Reds starting pitchers.
  5. The only reason this team has a chance of contending is the Central division will probably be terrible again next season and they have the room in the budget to buy a contender if they are so inclined.
  6. Disagree. He's hitting .241 at Double-A. That isn't playable in the big leagues, his average will be below .200. He has already shown he doesn't play elite SS defense and that is what it takes to carry a bat that weak. He doesn't need 25 HR power but he does need to hit the ball hard enough to ISO above .100. He had an ISO of .200 at Vanderbilt.
  7. The MRI came back negative for structural damage. Tyler Mahle on injured list with shoulder strain (mlb.com)
  8. It's a better strategy in the bottom of the inning knowing the other team didn't score than it is in the top of the inning when a 2 run HR gives you a bigger cushion.
  9. We're not certain any pitcher will be healthy next year but Mahle shouldn't have a career ending injury.
  10. I was referring more to the people claiming the Twins had "given up" after they lost the last couple games. That must be why Joe Ryan gave up hits in this game, he's quit on his team. If he was really trying he would have thrown 7 more hitless innings. According to most posters here you can tell pretty easily when the Twins have given up. When they lose it was because they weren't trying (mostly due to Rocco's uninspiring leadership). When they win it was because they had passion for the game that day (despite Rocco's uninspiring leadership, of course). The Twins aren't going to win the division this season but it isn't for lack of trying.
  11. Ryan gave up 3 hits today after the no-hit bid last time. You can tell they're just phoning it in now. No passion for the game.
  12. Yes to adding Woods-Richardson since he has to be added to the roster but no to promoting Balazovic and Henriquez. They're overmatched by AAA, What would be the point of seeing them fail in the big leagues? No scholarships. There are plenty of other young players on the roster who deserve playing time. Does promoting Julien mess with the plan to send him to the AZ Fall League?
  13. Time to cut the veterans who won't be here next year (looking at you, Billy Hamilton) and play the rookies (even if they do go 1 for 9).
  14. I am actually impressed by the development and coaching staff in the minor leagues. They've turned late round pitchers like Ober and Varland into potentially useful major leaguers. I think they're starving the pipeline by not giving it some high-end talent to develop. They don't sign any Latin American pitchers as amateur free agents. They rarely use top draft picks on pitchers and they don't draft enough pitchers. They also tend to go after injured pitchers in the draft (Canterino, Prielipp) to get value. The pitchers they sign as free agents are "value" picks out of the bargain bin - innings-eater starting pitchers for the rotation and minimum salaried minor league free agents for the bullpen.
  15. The team has their back against the wall. Teams with a 4 game lead can afford to let a win go by, this team can't.
  16. Next post the "location" leaderboard, or how often Twins pitchers hit their spot.
  17. I didn't think Peguero was eligible since he can play winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Feels like a missed opportunity for pitchers.
  18. Or spend 5 minutes trashing Randy Bush. That speech of Gladden's would be considered a train wreck if it was spontaneous. It's even worse knowing he had a year to practice a speech (and years of experience on the radio) and that's what he came up with.
  19. Most likely. There are scenarios where he is the opening day SS due to a series of unfortunate events.
  20. I would be surprised if Severino gets selected in the Rule 5 draft. He can hit but his bat is not MLB ready yet and he is not a great fielder. Rule 5 draft picks tend to be pitchers who teams can stick in the bullpen or athletes who are strong fielders.
  21. I love when the Mauer haters praise Luis Arraez for being the same damn hitter
  22. The same reason this front office signed Matt Shoemaker, JA Happ, Chris Archer, Rich Hill and Martin Perez.
  23. Pulling Bundy after 4 innings IS using him effectively. He has an ERA of 4.68 while averaging 4 innings a start. Do you really want to push him through the lineup another time? I'd rather use the bullpen. Bundy's value to the Twins has been his ability to take the ball every 5th day and eat some innings. However, his strikeout rates are below average, his ERA+ is 82 and his WAR to date is 0.0. He's not a good pitcher.
  24. One unexpected beneficiary of a pitch clock is the catcher. Less time sitting in a squat means fresher legs in September. Don't believe me? Next time while you're watching a game try squatting as much as your home team's catcher. By the time the 8th inning rolls around you'll wish the game was over.
