  1. Yes, but not as often as they would with someone else.
  2. When you throw 101 you can afford to lose a little velocity. He'd still be unhittable at 98 MPH. Imagine a world where Johan Santana never left the bullpen. That's the kind of stuff Duran has. It's a shame to only use it 60 innings per season.
  3. I wish they didn't even publish dWAR. Use RField to compare players defense at the same position. Games spent as a DH will lower a player's dWAR (because dWAR includes the positional adjustment) but not affect their RField number.
  4. Just looking at Twins 18th round players who signed and made the big leagues the list is 1982 Frank Eufemia (448 overall) 1978 Scott Ullger (456) 1968 Jerry Terrell (412) 19th rounders 2016 Sean Poppen (573) 2006 Danny Valencia (576) 1982 Marty Pevy (474) 20th rounders 1999 Travis Bowyer (599) 1990 Damian Miller (544) 1984 Gene Larkin (504)
  5. Entering this season Jose Miranda was in the 90s on top 100 prospect lists including MLB.com. He played 101 games at AAA.
  6. There are no position players drafted at 539 who signed and made it to the major leagues. Julien would be the first.
  7. Well, he appears on exactly zero top 100 prospect lists. I didn't even include Royce Lewis, Austin Martin and Brooks Lee as players who are probably ahead of Julien on the depth chart long term. He's also fortunate the team traded Spencer Steer. He's going to go to Triple-A next year and try to earn his playing time.
  8. Because he's not at the top of the depth chart at 2B or LF. Polanco, Arraez and Gordon are ahead of him at 2B. Larnach, Kirilloff, Celestino and Gordon ahead of him in LF. He's buried and hasn't played a game at AAA.
  9. He's pretty certain to make his MLB debut next season since he'll be on the 40 man roster. He will likely spend 2023 in St. Paul with trips to Target Field when needed to replace an injured player. I don't expect him to get consistent MLB playing time unless they sell veteran players at the deadline.
  10. Dave St. Peter should overrule if they try to front load the contract. It's a terrible business decision. Would you be willing to give up $1M just to keep the rubes on KFAN quiet?
  11. They were wrong. Mauer's contract didn't prevent this team from doing anything. Wolves and Vikings fans don't want the team to spend as little as possible. I don't know what this obsession is with Twins fans to want to save the Pohlads money. Any player who makes more than league minimum is someone who needs to be traded for someone cheaper. They will have revenues between $250 and $300M next season. They can afford a $200M payroll if they want. San Diego has a much smaller market than the Twins and they can afford Manny Machado.
  12. If any organization in baseball could figure out which pitchers were going to get injured and which ones would stay healthy they would be a perennial contender. I have seen a lot of people saying the Twins should sign "pitching" instead of Correa. The elite arms available this offseason are deGrom and Verlander. Next tier down is Rodon, Kershaw and Bassitt. Only Bassitt looks like a pitcher who will avoid the IL. Then you have Severino and Syndergaard who are both not as good after TJ surgery. After looking at that group I'd much rather give a long-term contract to Correa. In fact, out of all the available free agents the only players I'd go 7-8 seasons on a contract are Judge, Correa and Trea Turner.
  13. A bucket of baseballs. Not even new ones, the grey looking ones in the back of the equipment closet.
  14. The pitching in the AFL is definitely a step back from Double-A so it's hard to know what to make of his production on offense. How he does on defense should give the most information about where he projects in the future. I do not think his trade value has peaked. With Buxton certain to spend time on the injured list the Twins should keep him. No to trading Austin Martin.
  15. So your argument is Twins fans are too stupid so they shouldn't ever pursue top talent.
  16. Correa is pretty young. I don't have trouble locking him up until age 35. Almost every free agent is "overpaid" at the end, but they're usually underpaid at the beginning of the contract. If it helps you can pretend he made the money from his last season under contract in 2023 but it was deferred until 2030.
  17. They really should give pitchers the $/WAR bonus they get as free agents. However, teams DO pay players that kind of money for that production. Evan Longoria just made $19.6M this season and wasn't as good as Urshela.
  18. None, because an expansion team just has to exist to sell tickets for the first 3 seasons. They don't need to win. The numbers aren't pulled out of thin air, they're the average $/win value for free agents.
  19. That sounds about right. If an expansion team was just starting out and wanted to build an 80 win team out of just free agents it would probably cost them around $250M.
  20. I'm still not convinced Miranda can handle 3B defensively
  21. I am assuming TwinsRosterbation.com was taken
  22. That's fine. Give Miranda a vote for Twins ROY. If your team MVP is only a league average hitter then you have a very bad baseball team. Jose Miranda had a really hot July that is distorting what people think he did this year. He was an average big leaguer - which is good for a rookie - but he wasn't a star. He wasn't even a starter; he backed up Arraez at 1B and Urshela at 3B and rotated through DH. Correa had a cold July but was better than Miranda every other month of the season. It makes me think that the people commenting here that Miranda should be the MVP instead of Correa only started paying attention in July and tuned out in August when Vikings training camp started.
