    Ryan has been demonstrably worse than Bundy lately. Ryan has an .800 OPS against and 5.74 ERA in the 2nd half of the season versus Bundy's .657 OPS against and 3.55 ERA. Joe Ryan should not be in anyone's playoff rotation.

    If they just re-allocate the $9M they're paying Gary Sanchez they can find a better catcher.

    Dylan Bundy would probably start Game 2 if the playoffs began today unless they decided to go with Louie Varland. The Twins are NOT built for October.

    I wonder how much game theory enters into this. Baldelli's moves are very predictable. That makes this team very easy to gameplan against. You know the Twins aren't going to attempt to steal bases or hit-and-run which means your starting pitcher doesn't even need to throw over to first. You know the starting pitcher is only going 5 innings so even if you're behind you can wait him out and go after the bullpen. You know the bullpen relievers are going to stick to their top 2 pitches (usually fastball / slider). They only have one lefty (Thielbar) on the pitching staff and you'll see him at most 2 innings per series so you can load up your lineup with lefthanded bats.

    I don't understand why the Twins chose their brain trust from Cleveland (Falvey), Texas (Levine), Tampa (Baldelli) and San Diego (Tingler). Not a lot of pennants from those teams. Can't they steal someone from St. Louis instead? I looked up the bio of Michael Girsch and he has twin daughters. Twins! It's meant to be.

    One thing I will never understand is why a pitcher needs 4 full days of rest after pitching 75 pitches. I agree that Falvey has failed to fill the pitching pipeline. One obvious cause is this team does not sign and develop international free agent pitchers. 30% of players are from outside the US and the only decent pitcher the Twins have signed and developed in the last decade is Brusdar Graterol.

    If he gets shelled in his first start against the Yankees, I'd still give him another start against the Royals at home.

    I'm guessing this means he's in the rotation for the rest of the month. They need a starting pitcher and aren't going to want to burn an option on him.

    Gladden had a a different perspective. Judge will beat you, your pitchers have to shut down everyone else and make sure there isn't anyone on base ahead of him.

    Randy Dobnak is about 4 months younger than Tyler Mahle. I don't know if he will ever pitch for the Twins again.

    I am hoping both local kids Wallner and Varland make the big league roster. That should be fun to root for.

    I read somewhere that the best deadline acquisitions are usually relievers with a good career track record who have had some bad outings in the first half of the season. They often bounce back to their old level of performance and cost very little to acquire. The other way to make sure you're a good trade deadline acquisition is to be acquired by the Cardinals. They always seem to get a huge performance out of deadline acquisitions. This year they struck gold with Montgomery and Quintana but I also remember Larry Walker and Will Clark performing down the stretch for St. Louis.

    I think it would be a really bad idea to bench Arraez during a pennant race in favor of an untested rookie. Did you know that Palacios is actually older than Luis Arraez?

    Any .310 true batting average player will have a month where they hit .270 and another month where they hit .340. It's really, really hard to hit .300 in MLB this season. Only 13 players are over that mark.

    I think Killebrew was underrated. At the time he was also underrated because he didn't hit .300.

    Not in the same spot. He's playing a utility role, he's not the starting 3B or the starting 1B. That will make him underrated.

    He's been playing all over the place and not starting consistently which will lead him to being underrated. He's also been brutal defensively, making a lot of rookie mistakes.

    All Winder needs to do to contribute is pitch better than Pagan.
