Bottom line, I doubt they add anyone to the 40 man roster. I think they keep Keuchel in the bullpen and leave Funderburk in AAA.

    Which is better: Buxton (or Taylor) taking Wallner's spot defensively or Polanco taking Julien's spot defensively? I don't think Polanco is that much better than Julien at 2B but Buxton is going to be a lot better than Wallner. The Twins have a strikeout/flyball pitching staff. I also don't think there will be a single lineup for the rest of the season anyway. There will be games with Farmer and Taylor and games with Julien and Wallner in the field depending on the starting pitcher.

    Taylor has been doing well in CF. He might be a better fielder than Buxton in CF at the moment. I'd be fine with Buxton in LF and Wallner at DH.

    There's also every player available as a free agent and several players who are arbitration eligible on other rosters (ex: Farmer and Taylor). The question isn't just whether Polanco is better than the alternatives but whether he's $10.5M better. Solano (for $2M) has been much more important to the 2023 Twins than Polanco. Castro has been a better infield defender than Polanco this season. Not sure why you dismiss him as an option.

    He hasn't been reliable. He's missed 60% of the games due to injury.

    Good point. Even if they had Ozzie Smith at SS they wouldn't score as well as some teams because they have the fewest opportunities.

    The Twins are near the bottom of the league turning double plays. I don't think that's Correa's fault but he'll get 1/2 the blame in the advanced metrics.

    He's an "org" guy. Not young for AA. The Pirates didn't protect him last year and he signed with the Twins as a minor league free agent. He'll be a minor league free agent again when the season is over.

    Alcala could move to the 60 day IL. I think they're concerned because Paddack and Gordon might come off the 60 day IL soon but I'll bet someone else gets injured before the season ends. Or ever.

    Larnach is having trouble getting the barrel on the ball. He seems to be taking good at-bats but doesn't connect with pitches he should be able to drive.

    I watched Woods-Richardson pitching thanks to the televised Saints game. He missed over the middle of the plate too often and was bailed out by AAA hitters. His stuff was decent but he had trouble hitting spots. His delivery is very over-the-top and I wonder if he has trouble repeating it. With his velocity he has to be able to hit spots to be effective.

    I do think one consequence of picking up Polanco's option could be losing Nick Gordon from the roster. I don't see room for all of Polanco, Farmer, Castro and Gordon as utility players.
