  1. Interesting that these sentiments were posted back to back. I tend to agree with the latter. If I didn't enjoy watching the team win I think I'd shut it off for good. That's what I've done with pretty much every other sport besides baseball.
  2. I was expecting this article to be about Festa.
  3. In his previous 9 innings he allowed 9 runs. Last night was a good night and his health is actually quite encouraging, especially compared to the rest of the rotation.
  4. I think no-hitters are overrated in general. They're kind of neat, like when a batter hits for the cycle, but ignoring walks makes them less meaningful. Nobody would call a game where a pitcher has a 3 hit, no walk shutout a "no walker" and nobody tracks how many 0-walk complete games occurred in history. Ryan had allowed 2 baserunners, the perfect game was not in play and he wasn't going to get to pitch 2 more innings. It's a team sport, why not let someone else try to finish the no-hitter.
  5. Duran was warm? I was only watching on the Gamecast on my phone. Why didn't he let Duran get the 9th for an all-rookie combined no-hitter?
  6. That's the best situation but even that decision depends on the batter (can they bunt? are they the most likely to get a hit? will the batter get intentionally walked?). You wouldn't want Arraez to bunt in that situation because a single scores the runner.
  7. They may need to change players to change the health of players. For example, I don't know if Kirilloff or Ober will ever be healthy for a full season. I know Buxton won't be healthy for a full season.
  8. Is this a real problem? I haven't noticed this at all.
  9. Better question - why are they playing Sheffield at 2B when they could have promoted Edouard Julien?
  10. No reason to know how to do either of those now. They just changed the rules to make it easier for pull-happy hitters.
  11. You'll be lucky to find a face card and you're likely to find a few jokers. That said, once this team is eliminated from the race they need to cut Billy Hamilton. He's not helpful.
  12. Shuffield is playing 2B. I imagine they want Lee playing SS. Nice of them to give Shuffield the pay bump at AAA considering he signed for only $20,000.
  13. Gossett threw a no-hitter. Twins Daniel Gossett throws no-hitter for Double-A Wichita | MiLB.com I think the fact that he is considered a "non-prospect" is the only reason he was allowed to pursue a no-hitter.
  14. I am convinced this will never exist. That's like a healthy late-career Tony Oliva.
  15. Are you asking me if I think Varland deserves another start? Yes, I do think he deserves another start.
  16. Just wanted to note that Chris Archer injured himself a few hours later but I had nothing to do with it. I've never met him.
  17. It's actually great roster management. Because Varland was the extra player for the doubleheader they could send him down and bring him back without waiting 10 days. They brought up a fresh arm in Cole Sands which was desperately needed at the time. They can still have Varland take the mound against Kansas City and they got an extra relief pitcher for the 4 days in between. At the rate players are getting injured someone might even need to go in the injured list by next Tuesday. Emilio Pagan has been pitching better than Rogers since about June. Byron Buxton played in more games this season than he has in any season since 2017.
  18. Buxton, Kepler, Larnach, Kirilloff, Celestino, Gordon, Garlick The Twins actually do have 7 MLB-quality outfielders on the roster but 3 are out injured and one is walking wounded so we're left with Jake Cave as option #8. He's actually a really good 8th guy on the depth chart.
  19. Celestino is a 23 year old rookie. He's their best fielding option in CF. Do people think the Twins have some sort of bumper crop of All-Stars in the minors just waiting to be promoted?
  20. The whole bullpen was used in the Yankees doubleheader. Archer is pitching today and will probably go 4 innings and Sunday is a possible bullpen game with "TBD" the scheduled starter.
  21. They traded one of them away for Tyler Mahle. There is a reason the Twins minor league system is ranked in the bottom 3rd. Most teams do not have enough minor league depth to survive this many injuries, especially to the pitching staff.
  22. Nelson Cruz was traded for Joe Ryan, not Berrios. Simeon Woods-Richardson was the pitcher they got for Berrios and he looks really promising.
  23. Or he'll get hurt. One or the other.
  24. If you're only looking at free agents then you're probably right. Sanchez is the #2 option after Willson Contreras.
