  1. I am not sure Varland deserves the accolades that the posters have given him.. not a terrible start, but not sterling either. I want more and we need more. Interesting to see how the rotation pans out. I would go with a six man rotation now that we are so heavy in prospects.
  2. I suspect this article is doing what you expected and getting tons of posts - I would add my NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo and suggest we go after Sandy Koufax - he is still alive and breathing.
  3. I love it - his middle name I had to look it up today - his first name is Daniel. His middle name is Zebulon. Zebulon Pike was the first to come north and look for the source of the Mississippi - he chose Leech Lake. Then he returned south and took his next expedition to Pike's Peak. So we can use the peak as a talisman for Zebby's rise.
  4. Morris has definitely moved up in the prospect rankings, but I suspect also in the pipeline - I expect him up if Varland fails in his starts. The lineup of prospects looks good, but it also looks like we are coming to the end of the line. Morris might be ready, who would be next? Camargo at first looked good in the field. Are they prepping him for Santana's place next year? I wondered who would be at first now that Kiriloff has lost his luster and seems to be almost an after thought. I still hope he does well, whether following the Rooker and Raley route with another team or finally getting healthy and producing in MN.
  5. I am sold on Zebby. Keep them in the rotation and let him mature and succeed.
  6. I think the 40 man is a poor excuse, but you are right they will use it. They still have easy drops to get the best team on the field.
  7. I join the others who could care less about "he is hitting better than the results show". It is only results that win games. No one posts FIP or WOBA to determine who wins a game! Larnach is a nice player but in the bottom three in any batting order I would construct. I also like the idea of good players playing against all pitchers and not the quick PH move that Rocco likes.
  8. sometimes you let a SP figure things out. Look at the RP we got instead for that game. Yes it was a bad decision and I am okay with a thumbs down.
  9. I will try to curb my enthusiasm, but it is hard. I really want to see him succeed.
  10. I buy into Morris - still waiting on Soto. I feel like he has been over rated on our prospect lists so far. I hope he is as great as everyone thinks, but I need to see him in A and AA before getting on his bandwagon. Prielipp also needs to have some extended success before I accept the hype. Where do Ohl and Nowlin and Raya and Lewis fit in this conversation? Right now, Festa and Matthews are looking really good and Varland needs to be a RP.
  11. I am concerned that the BP is getting quite shallow. Who do we count on? Not Theilbar. We have a limited number of quality arms out their now and with rookies in the rotation we will be calling on them earlier meaning a lot of innings.
  12. I can't blame Thielbar. He does the best he can, but Rocco - have you looked at the stat sheet? You pull Festa when he was a victim of a bad call and then go to Thielbar as your second option. Come on - I have not made a bad Rocco post so far this year, but I cannot hold back today. That was stupid! This is not Thielbar of the past, it is the current RP and he is not the person we want when the game is so important. Nor is it right to pull a young pitcher who suffers from a bad call. Come on - you are no longer a rookie manager.
  13. Neither team won - trades can't be judged in a partial season unless one of the assets just goes off as a star. Right now we would be saying bench Polanco based on his 204 average and 0.0 WAR, but we also don't know if the trade set him back mentally. I just can't imagine what I would have done if I had been traded to another state during any of my career jobs. Baseball is a strange occupation as Curt Flood tried to point out. In any other profession we can choose to leave, choose to stay, or choose the other company we would work for.
  14. Maybe the easiest solution would be for the teams to expect at least a 30 minute delay and start their warmups accordingly. This happens once a year. It is no big deal.
  15. Wallner gets a double and is the lead in bottom three WPA - no wonder I pay no attention to this stat. Not sure why we see this every game. Richardson was great - innings pitched, runs allowed - all add up to a real quality start.
  16. Connor Prielipp starts and goes 2 2/3 while 19-year-old Adrian Bohorquez goes 5 - time to start pushing the all minor league pitchers to more innings, whether they give up runs or not. Stretch them out. Adrian Bohorquez looked good and it is nice to see at least 5 innings from a young pitcher.
  17. I wish, but do not expect him to give us what we really need. Hill is a silly idea. I think we keep trying with Zebby if Varland fails as a SP.
  18. I loved it. I especially enjoy seeing our hometown slugger lead the way. Not sure how to judge varland.
