    Sometimes it does - We have given a lot of older players a chance - 27 is actually peak performance age.

    I would love to see McCusker get a chance - he seems like the ideal 1B - power and good bat (I don't like the Ks) and he has the height that makes him a good target. He and Miranda seem like the best duo right now.

    Baseball has made another shift to where the SB is now another integral part of baseball. The Twins missed the memo.

    I raised this question in another posting - who makes the calls on spending while the Pohlads position themselves to sell the team? Can the FO actually function in this limbo?

    Interesting, but I find coaches and assistant coaches and all the other influences are really hard for a fan to judge.

    I like what they have done and I expect that the OF is one of the easier areas to address. Nice job KC. Which brings me to the Twins who did not make the needed adjustments and now that it is for sale does that tie the hands of the FO?

    Loved this memory - I was expecting great things from him when the Twins arrived. But players often went downhill quickly in their 30s during that period. Thanks for the note - by the way Roy Sievers was traded to the White Sox the year before the club came to MN. The two of them together were a dynamic duo for a lousy team. Pascual was a terrific pitcher who won 174 games and had 40.9 WAR. Ramos was not at Pascual's level, but won 117 games and had 21.9 WAR SABR has this statement "Camilo Pascual and Pedro Ramos, a pair of ill-starred hurlers who were among the best ever produced by their baseball-crazed homeland and yet were destined to ring up records for futility throughout their early American League years under Griffith’s club ownership." "From his rookie season of 1954 onward, Pascual was recognized around the junior circuit as a considerable natural talent who possessed one of the most devastating curveballs ever seen on the professional diamond." I look forward to your biographical look at these pitchers in the future.

    Stewart and Topa have too many injury issues on a team that seems to have a lot of fragile bodies so we cannot count on them for next season or beyond even though we hope we can. The BP is always an issue, but Cleveland and Detroit have demonstrated the value the pen has.

    Intentions are not results. Let's wait and see.

    I can't judge the announcement. I need to see what interest there is and who is interested. Right now I am ready to see the Pohlads go, but for a team that has a history of Calvin and the Pohlads (is that a cartoon series) I can only wait and see. But some change had to happen. What I am seeing however is that the Pohlads thought the bottom line was a better sales incentive than a winning team.

    Next articles - trade Buxton, trade Lopez, we already had the unlikely trade Vasquez. How about writing about the playoffs that are still going strong and leave these speculations for winter.

    They are stuck at catcher - Vasquez does not have the value that his salary suggests so a trade would mean eating some of the money and if that is the case would the amount we have to absorb and the cost of another catcher be much less than what we are paying Vasquez? Do they really trust Camargo? I want the young players who got their experience in the rotation to build on it and thus I would trade Paddock. Too many health issues to feel confident with him. It is too hard to speculate on the roster when the finances are such a mystery.

    If this were on the Athletic there would be a least improved or least valuable choice. We have some choices if we made this selection, and I would nominate Julien as my most disappointing player with Varland a close second. (of course I am ignoring all the great RP we signed and DFA'd). If this were improvement within the season Wallner would be my choice from demotion to near star status.

    I have no viable answer to this question, but I do wonder what the catcher hierarchy is in the minors. Is Camargo the only answer to the up next question? Who else is in the realistic mix for the next two years? We know that 2025 is the last year for Vasquez regardless of a trade or not. If we trade either, we will not have the resources to replace them on a trade or FA market.

    One of many misses by the organization over the years. His pitching motion was so unique. Loved to watch him work. 229 wins when we valued wins and pitchers actually started and finished their games. He completed 187. His ERA 3:30, his whip 1.199. 66.1 WAR. He deserved more attention.

    Our problem is both philosophical and financial. We signed two very good players to to two very large contracts and then reduce the overall budget. You can't have at all. I don't blame the players for taking those big contracts, but what is our overall philosophy? What guides the decisions for this team?

    I am overwhelmed by the comments. I don't really care what their budget is. What I want is good baseball. I want to see some speed on the bases, I want to see some good Fielding, and I'd like to see us utilize our players to their fullest extent. . But I can't get into the angst and name Calling that has taken over The comments here.

    I look at Rooker as a precautionary example. Kiriloff still has potential. What does it hurt to hold on for another year?

    It will be interesting if this is accurate. Lots of fall guys and very few of significance.

    This year there is no MVP. In a year when all the blame gets put on the assistant coaches, it's hard to think of any player that raised the bar. I believe the description for this year is total system failure from ownership on down.
