    In the past I watched Casey Stengel use platooning but he knew better than to mess with his really good batters. The good batters learn to hit from both sides if they're given a chance to face enough of the opposite arm. I think we have some players that can adjust. And I would hope we would develop them and not pinch hit in the early innings. That really doesn't rest the player. Putting an inferior player in because of the side they bat from does not improve the team.

    We did him no favors last year. When he was off. We should have put him in a lower profile experiences and we didn't. Baldelli is slow to change.

    Is he doing any good? When those situations come up Baldelli just pinch hit Margot and brought in a lesser arm. So what did tinglers analysis do?

    I'm always wondering how much difference a manager makes but the pinch hitting and the yanking of pitchers drives me crazy. I think they need somebody with more fire and I will ask the question that I've put out many times without getting a good answer. What are the bench coaches and the assistant bench coaches doing? I just don't understand how we can have all of those coaches 12 total and not get some better decisions at times. Does Balldelli just overruled them

    An interesting New Years exercise with so many assumptions. I do not think all the players you projected to lose prospect status will accomplish that this year. In fact I wonder if Walker doesn't become the one who moves up! Still waiting on Soto. I also like Eeles - Our Altuve. I do think the Twins have to move some of the surplus - Julien, Miranda. I still like McCusker getting 1B time, although either Wallner or Larnach makes sense for me too - both DH and 1B.

    Obviously he was brought on to take Margot's place as the pinch hitter of choice.

    I know I have already posted and the questions I raised still reflect my thoughts, but suddenly I am struck with another chunk of baseball history. The Red Sox - sold Babe Ruth! Not news today I know, but https://baseballhall.org/discover-more/stories/short-stops/the-deal-that-changed-the-game. Now one of the commentors mentioned Pohlads my need liquidity for Real Estate. No idea if this is true, but should we sell one of our three stars for them to have cash we might have a new curse in the works.

    Not my money and I do not understand salaries and revenues in the economic region that is MLB. So my questions are a little different. Is there some financial crisis in the Pohlad holdings that make them suddenly in need of money? If not why did they suddenly decide to cut when the promise of winning was in front of them? If reputation meant anything the Pohlads should want to go out on top and be local heroes. They would get their money in a couple years regardless, but to slash the team, disappoint the fans and leave with the money stuffed in their collective pockets makes no sense.

    So true - unfortunately except for the big trade that got us a bullpen catcher we have improved by subtraction - is that possible? We also dipped into Rule V. So two moves (Twins must have to do things in twos). So those who defend the team now have two players to project and root for. The Twins have always waited to the end of the FA season, but this year the rest of the teams did not get that memo.

    I am not sure about all the emotions - we traded a replacement player who could fill a need in the BP if everything goes well for a below replacement catcher who we do not need.

    We has a 0.3 WAR over three years. He had some promise and he was the kind of player we usually sign hoping it will work. We do not need this catcher on the 40 man. And getting rid of Moran did not help the budget. I will stick with my negative feelings on this although in the long run it might mean nothing.

    Wow - Christmas is not complete - we all got a lump of coal and the Red Sox got an actual RP.

    Interesting history - we have lost much more than we have gained. Cleveland is a good model for us - they trade or sell a year before the player leaves. They get something and that helps with the minor leagues and future prospect development. I am not happy with our model, but.....

    The injury history and the limited innings make this group interesting, but not as promising as Fest, SWR, Matthews, Morris.

    !B options now too expensive, too limited, not worth the speculation. Look at the 40 man and then extend further to the minors. Nothing should limit the competition within the organization.

    The Phillies are banking on an uptick in performance too. They just signed Kepler.

    Another wait and see essay. This is hope, no real support. I too hope this happens, but I was just reading https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/43062222/mlb-2024-25-olney-ranking-top-10-best-teams-right-now right now and we are not in it - Cleveland is and KC is and we are not in the best of the rest - Detroit is. That is not to say they are right, but like me they have to see things happen to believe in our potential. Last year was our potential year. Next year we need to see performance.

    Are those Arizona men really the ghosts and will they cause the Pohlads to see the light or will they just see the billion dollar pay day. I vote payday.

    I like this essay - I cannot read the trade dreams that appear regularly. This is a very interesting trio. Alcala has been mishandled in my mind. They have seen that he is not a multi-innings guy nor can he pitch two days in a row, but still they used him that way. I am not sure if either the team or Alcala can overcome the bias that seems to exist. No wonder he appears in the trade projections I don't like. Miranda is a puzzle. Unlike Julien he was not consistently bad, but his Jekyll and Hyde stats are worrisome. I had a lot of expectations for him (Julien too). Julien went into the worst of sophomore slumps, but Miranda teases with big performances and terrible droughts. Neither of these two can really be counted on for regular contributions and I keep seeing them listed at 1B. This makes me wonder why no one seems to have confidence to give McCusker a shot at least as a part time 1B. Or start looking at Larnach for 1B.

    I think the team philosophy up to now has been to get on base and wait for a big hit. In our spiraling downward at the end of last season a few extra bases, a few daring moves might have gained us a victory when we were so desperate

    I like the Festa, SWR additions to the rotation and the movement away from Paddack and other marginal veterans. Zebby and Morris are numbers 6 and 7/

    All I could think of when I was reading this was Aaron Sabato. No surprise that a dinged-up player like Lewis would lose speed. Baserunning and speed just don't seem to be part of the team DNA and that is a big miss as the game evolves. As much as I enjoyed the mid-sixties Twins and the 1950s Braves I also loved Whitey Herzog's St Louis Cardinals, the Royals in 2015, the A's in the Rickey Henderson years, the Go-go White Sox of Aparicio, And power did not mean lack of speed - Aaron had 240 SB, Mays had 300, and Barry Bonds had 514. I have looked at Statcast's Sprint Speed Leaderboard and it is not a surprise to see all the playoff teams above us - the Twins rank 18.

    That is for sure! All my early teams - the Braves, Lakers, North Stars disappearing to another city and what happened to the Kicks? I loved going to those games too. Or the Muskies or the Pipers? Of course I enjoyed the Saints and Millers when we were AAA in both cities and that was an acceptable change since we then stole the Senators from DC. Of course I missed the Duluth Eskimos. I have to recognize our changing, shifting baseball history before the Twins and recommend Stew Thomley' summary. Things keep changing and it can be tough on a fan base.

    This gives us something different to talk about, we can thank them for that, but the deal is not done and it remains as speculative as all the trade ideas that have been posted. I will enjoy the conversations and wait and see. I remember the Twolves being sold recently - how is that working out?
