Does Payton Eeles get a call up. Right now he looks like a better option than Julien. With DSL ending will they put players like Beltre into the upper levels? It seems like a good time to remove some of the players we know will not make the big leagues or upper minors. Hard to see all the ILs on the list, especially in our top 5. But reading all the MLB news the number of IL players is significant all over the league. How do they stay healthy?

Padres 5, Twins 3: Zebby Matthews Makes His Own Mess
mikelink45 replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So glad Margot got a chance to PH - how did that go? And Wallner is breaking out of his slump so they PH Jeffers for him. What is this fascination with Pinch Hitting? I know Margot stinks, but what is the PH success for the season? -
Griffin Jax Has a Strong Case as Twins MVP
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I was giving it to a pitcher it is Ober. Ober has given us 134 innings. He is 12 - 5 (go ahead and hate on wins, but I believe it is wins that get you into the playoffs). And he has 3.49 Era and 1.000 whip. Jax wins in ERA and Whip and has 54 innings, 80 less than Ober. Of course I am waiting for Lewis to stay healthy and get MVP. Right now it would be Santana but I don't like that choice. I need something more to finish the season. -
I just do not like defensive ratings - the old ones, the new ones, and any others that someone is busy creating.

The Twins Almanac for August 18

I love these looks back - what fascinates me is not the Wally Moon hits, but the fact that Warren Spahn went 13 innings twice - he was not a RP. -
Minor League Report 8/18 Andrew Morris Finally Falters

I did not see these two coming - where are they in our prospect ranking? They have been impressive. For that matter Carson McCusker was not on my radar either. I guess I need to fix my radar. Thanks to a comment I know that Bernard does not belong on my list, although the old timer is having a good year.- 23 replies

Week in Review: Compiling Wins, Closing In
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another good summary. But the highlight among highlights that ranks the top is Richardson, Mathews, Festa trio holding serve in the Twins division quest! Amazing - what other team can ride three rookies like this? But please let Lopez and Ober stay healthy. Varland is not the answer if we go down another one and I was so impressed a year ago. I am sorry he has dropped so far in my perception. Can't he be in the BP and step up if needed as a starter for the rest of the year?- 11 replies

Wyatt Langford is a poor comp for a comparison like this. Just drafted last year - no minor league seasoning - he is batting 242/311/678/ despite an 18 games slump. He might go down, but he has shown remarkable ability. His OPS+ is 93 - not real good, but better than 8 on the BR batting chart for the team. Better than Lee, Camargo, Austin, Julien, Margot, Farmer and just below Kepler. I think he will be great, but who knows he could be another Kiriloff (OPS+ for year 80).

I did not realize that Winokur was so young. He might be my number two prospect based on what he has done since we signed him. No slight on the others, but I see him rising quickly.

I would put Woods-Richardson first at this point - he has proven himself to be more than reliable. Where would we be this season without him. And I would then have Zebby second because I think he is making himself into something really special which leaves Festa third - and that is a sign of a really good group. Varland is the outlier. Like other commentators I would see him in the BP which puts Morris as number four.

We got a win with Margot and Santana at the top of the order! The baseball gods are giggling and we are having fun. Richards continue to be our number two behind Ober. How great.

Not meaningless to many of us. MLB is now considering a six inning requirement for SP in the future (per the Athletic). I know there is a lot to work out, but I like the idea. 3 - 4 BP pitchers per game is not for me and I will celebrate a 20 game winner any time. I know you are new age and I am old age - too late for me to change over. Give me wins, ERAs, RBIs (yes they count - that is why we look at RISP each game).

This begs the question - Is Ober now the Ace? Ober 12 - 5 3.52 O,96 Whip 128 Innings Lopez 11 - 8 4.67 1.15 135 Both are 28. I like Ober's consistency. But then up and coming - Richards - age 23 3-3 3.76 1.18 Whip 102 Ryan is 7 - 7 3.60 0.98 135 innings Nice to have so many choices! Can Zebby, Festa or Varland compete with these stats? And if you are wondering Paddack had higher era and whip than any of the first four.

Keirsey is not a young AAA player - I suspect he would welcome a bench role - especially the Margot role where he has 104 games and 272 ABs so far,

I agree, but looking at Taylor's 200 average he was not worth the investment either. This was the place for another rookie to come in.

I will take Doncon, but otherwise I cannot think that Keisey would have been of lesser value and bringing up Julien for Buxton does not make sense.

Interesting discussion. I expect our rotation next year should be Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Festa and Zebby (at least I hope so) and I would really like to see Varland go to the pen. So the AAA rotation has to be set to be the replacements that we know we will need. I see Lewis and Morris leading that rotation. I would also put Raya there - time to test him. I know I left off Paddack, but that is intentional. I would trade him.

I get concerned with the call up send down routine for players like Varland and Winder. I have no idea what it means psychologically. How does this affect service time? Nice to see Lewis coming around - AAA should be soon.
