  1. Boy do you miss the point. Louis was not the first pinch hitter. We have a number of people who can be pinch hit for. But Larnach and Wallner are not the two I would choose. Depending on what happened later, they are out of your lineup. Yes, Lewis succeeded and I'm glad and I think he would have succeeded no matter who pinch hit for
  2. I would have thought. Lee would be the second baseman. But perhaps they think that Lewis is not as good in the field. Third base as the other options would be. Unfortunately. Julien has not lived up to this expectations. And they do need to get Miranda into the lineup.
  3. As someone who posts - bring up Keirsey almost everyday - there is not one reason in the post that makes me change my mantra.
  4. Richards, Festa, Matthews - all are doing great - the future of the staff looks really good, but the BP? Cleveland is first because it has baseballs best BP. We have Varland who should be in the pen, is there anyone else in the minors worth trying over our current 8,9 arms?
  5. This says it all - PH Rocco strikes again. Arguably we replace our current best hitter with our worst hitter. Way to go Rocco. And I love Lewis as a PH, but for our other best hitter of this month - Larnach? Nice try, but Julien cost us one game in 162 - Gary blew a championship.
  6. I love these retrospectives - so much to chew on. Why are we so protective of the 40 man when we need to be protective of the team's playoff potential. For example - I keep saying Keirsey who is have a wonderful season, but not in MLB but Margot is. I don't care about which league the player is in now if they can play an effective SS they should have taken the field for Correa. And why did it take so long to bring Wallner back up when he was trampling AAA pitchers. And could we take advantage of Eeles being locked in this year? Varland is being saved as a SP, but right now he should be in the pen. We seem to love DFA guys and no one else in the league that is hungry for RP does. What is going on? I know we made a "huge trade" for a RP (who should be DFA'd but that would look bad). I would let Paddock go - why do we love IL guys - Mahle, Pineda, Paddack, Topa????? Farmer has taken Margot's place as an ineffective PH, but we keep using him. Julien's career has spun out of control this year and when Lee comes back Julien should be gone, but probably Lee will be the SS. Winder is not the savior, not a SP, but better than the bottom of the list. Alcala has a live arm that has everyone excited, but he has 1.6 WAR in six years. 1.0 of that this year and he is progressively less reliable with 6 runs allowed in his last five games and 6 innings. He has not earned our trust at the top of the BP (I know few have).
  7. I keep thinking about Billy Amick's name - Amik in Ojibwe is beaver swimming by. Is Billy part indigenous?
  8. I am still a believer in pushing the innings. Raya was not sharp, but sometimes forcing your way through is the best learning experience. I am hoping that MLB develops the rule I read about on the Athletic that would force SP to go 5 innings (with some exceptions). Glad for Jenkins, but I am not the HR fan that most are. I like good contact and I loved the look of his swing. Dobnak gets his 10th, but not that he earned it since it took a 14 run game to give it to him, but he went six despite giving up six. I don't know his pitch count, but obviously the brakes are off for him - for good reasons.
  9. But we do not want ground balls, we want strikeouts - which take more pitches to achieve.
  10. Love the opening. Has anyone noticed that Farmer is now the preferred PH? Same results, different name. Yup - trade deadline - we struck when the iron was hot. Is that the right metaphor? But of course we can all take pride in a hard hit ball!
  11. Interesting. I have no way to judge these so I just absorb the various articles. But I wonder how Seth views this - not from stats, but from his eye test.
  12. The hate is not personal although it looks like it. It is about the FO reaching for low hanging fruit and not doing something to move the needle. Can we really say he is better than Topa will be, than Varland can be, than Winder is?
  13. When did baseball decide that making a player into a RP means they could not be a starter? Did anyone ask Johann Santana?
  14. Excellent argument for keeping OKERT!!! Oh well, he got a mop up inning to drop his ERA a little. Duran is still number one. I am reluctant to leave Sands that high. The real case is for developing our relievers - not grabbing from the scrap heap. And why not Varland? We can put him in the pen at this point and still get him to start if needed.
  15. Don't forget the rearview mirror. KC is tied with us. And with tie breakers is ahead of us in the wild card standings. We cannot afford to keep rolling over with the good teams - we need to at least break even.
  16. You miss my point - the thing is, this is the year we need to be all out and we are not. we make do. get players who play the positions - don't play games with service time. I do not have the answer as I said, but there are SS at every level. Player real CF, real SS...
  17. I do not have a good answer - Holland would work. Keaschall could be pushed, Castillo. It does not matter to me if they have a good glove.
  18. The argument for Thielbar is fine, but he is being used regularly. Speaking of Okert - any live arm is better than him, but we have proven we will stick with a lousy RP that the FO deemed worth purchasing. At least we gave up on Jackson. But we had to suffer long for Pagan and Luplow and Chi Chi Gonzalez (almost forgot him).
  19. My issues are two - Margot and Okert. I know they are the big additions the FO made so we have to make them succeed - right? Well two things about Margot who will make it through the season rather than bring up Keirsey - we should not use him as a PH (0 - 25) how long does it take to learn that? Soon he will have an accidental hit and Rocco will feel justified. But today was not a PH - instead he is leadoff again. Come on. He is not a lead off hitter. Don't we have someone better? His is a bottom three hitter. Okert has had so many really bad - not just bad relief appearances I just cannot stand to hear his name in the BP. DFA makes sense - Varland is the next man up for the pen and he deserves to take Okert's spot. Winder is better than Okert. And looking at the BP chart there were other options in this game. They did nothing in FA, nothing in trades, so do something with our pitching pipeline. Bonus grumble - Castro is being over exposed. Can we call up a real SS to cover the position and let Castro take some days off?
  20. Affected yes, but how many RP were used in each of those games?
  21. I think I hear Varland yelling - put me in the BP, I am tired of this up and down treatment.
