Why Is Royce Lewis Playing Second Base?!
mikelink45 replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is a question we all have to contemplate and I think we need to be seeing the season ending without Correa/Buxton/Kepler and make the most of it. Lee is SS from now on. Miranda at third and Lewis at 2B looks like our best combination. Julien has really disappointed this season, Castro has to stay utility, Farmer has to stay on the bench and Helman should replace him. In CF I want to see Keirsey get extended play. -
That was my first reaction too! What analytics created that lineup?

Twins Minor League Report (9/6): Playoff Hopes Dashed
mikelink45 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Why the limit for Morris? Is he going to take Zebby or Varland's slot? Winning in the minors is affected so much by the promotions and changes in the lineups and rotations. But I am pleased with what we are developing. Think of the Saints if there lineup was not playing in Minneapolis - Zebby, Varland, Festa, SWR, Morris - Henrique, Blewett - Lee, Lewis, Miranda, Larnach, Wallner, Julien, Helman, Keirsey and Martin. I think we will start calling the MLB team the Minneapolis Saints.- 13 replies

Twins Prospect Retrospective: OF DaShawn Keirsey, Jr
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am delighted. I hope he is fantastic - I know we could have used his defense over the last month. -
All the commentators have beat me to the punch - Keirsey and McCusker - Twins - Yes. Farmer and Margot not Twins.

Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month: August 2024
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I am not sure I would have Walker that high for the month. I might have slotted Beltre in at five, but the nice thing is that we have so many that are worthy of top five status.- 8 replies

Festa deserved better and MLB scoring is really bugging me. Errors are errors - are they trying to not insult players? Festa suffered from bad gloves and Martin has really disappointed me. He is not an OF and seemingly he is not an IF, maybe its time to move on. Just as I have spent the year writing about Keirsey, I am joining the commenter who calls for really OF call ups. We need gloves as well as bats.

.222 average is better than his overall average of 189. With a WAR of -1.0 I am not sure he is worth a bench spot let alone a PH for a better batter.

Excellent win, here are a few observations: So glad to see Miranda and Lewis bust their slump. I like the look of our lineup. Glad Santana is down in the order, I hope Lee keeps going and pushes him down another slot. SWR was due a clunker and the fact we won anyway was excellent. I think Rocco did well tonight - lineup, RPs. But what is Farmer's PH record? I cannot remember when this was last successful. This is a crazy obsession.

Have you looked at their lineup? after the top four the best BA for the last five is Rortvedt. I am delighted with the win, but we should beat this team every time. The win was great and loved the fact that they continued to fight back.

We've often seen that it's momentum carrying into the playoffs that takes teams to the top. So I disagree. We need to be playing hard and well and come in with some momentum on our side.

That's not the point at all. I think you're reading in an awful lot. I just think that sometimes players need to find the right team to succeed. That doesn't mean the previous team messed up

My players - BR War, Zips Fangraph How about Larnach 1.2 WAR, 0.3 Wallner projected 1.8 actual 2.1 in a very shortened season. Then there are those who fall below projection. Kepler has 0.9 and a long way to get to 2.1 Julien projected for 2.8 actual 0.4 Pitching has Varland and Paddock below projections.

There are periodic prospects that seem so obvious but are not seen the same way by the FO. I want Keirsey to go somewhere that he will be respected and used like Rooker and Raley and Gil and Cano. Compare this with what KC just did! Why not Varland? Lee is the only one I am happy with.

The constant look at Correa and Buxton has to stop. If they come back they will not be in baseball shape - too long away to jump in and be what everyone hopes. The same is true of Paddack. All three will need to have rehab starts at St Paul. Relying on long term injury returns at this point in the year is not productive. Louie Varland should have been in the pen for the last month. 3 - 9 over the last twelve games. What are waiting for. At this stage if he pitches relief he can quickly go back to starting in an emergency, although I think Morris might have bypassed him. The best team means dropping Farmer and getting someone who can hit for the bench. It means getting someone to replace Julien which means getting Lee back. True we need Lewis to return to form, but his return from injury is a signal of what could be in store for Buxton and Correa if they make it back. Injury recovery does not mean returning to previous levels. I would put Morris in the pen with Varland for the remainder of the season. I have more faith in him than I do Paddock returning with velocity and form.

Twins 0, Blue Jays 15: Zebby Shelled
mikelink45 replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is a game worth forgetting. Zebby stunk, Tonkin stunk, Blewett was okay, Thielbar was okay and Farmer only gave up 3 in two innings. Meanwhile on the offensive side we had 4 hits. One extra base hit. This was one big smack down. What is next? We are 3 - 9 for the last dozen games. Is this what we expect against teams over 500? If so forget the playoffs, I believe those teams will have winning records.- 31 replies
