  1. I cannot offer a scouting report, but I like the last two on the list the best.
  2. They are fourth if you ignore the other four team I mention in the last sentence before the list and we finished behind three of them last year. Yes I read the article, did you read all I wrote? I had to say that, but I don't intend to argue further.
  3. Wow - sign up for the playoffs now. What a joke - we are fourth best if everyone stays healthy, if no one regresses, if the bullpen can stand up to overuse and if the gloves suddenly turn gold. So many articles will be written as fillers. Let us see how Cleveland, Detroit, KC and Tampa Bay perform. Would any of these teams trade rosters? Yankees Dodgers Astros Orioles Mets Braves Arizona Phillies Add in the four who are better than expected above and that puts us in the 9 - 12 range of teams. I am much more comfortable with that until we see the trades, Free agents, Rule 5 and all the other moves to be made.
  4. I don't even like the premise of being the worst MVP. MVP is based on the team team and the year. Castro did what he was asked to do and he did it well. He's a deserving MVP and so are all the others. So I'm sorry, I just don't like the idea of selecting the worst of the players who are considered the best for each year
  5. As the comments indicate this is really not an issue. We sign him, at that rate he is tradeable if you want Vasquez and Camargo (I don't).
  6. Well of course we cut him - there are these wonderful FA relievers - Jackson, Staumont, Blewett, Okert, Duarte, Irvin and even Trevor Richards who will be cheaper and ... I guess I just convinced myself to keep Alcala.
  7. I have no expectations. This team has made some high-level decisions that are hard to understand, but even more difficult to deal with. With. Budget constraints just doesn't fit with Major League baseball. I'm not sure they realize that this is not a McDonald's franchise and they're playing in the big leagues with a lot of rich people who are not afraid to spend their money. Take a look at San Diego and the Mets. So what will they do. It's tough to think about free agency and them signing anybody of significance. And on the trade front as you pointed out the two players that are prominent as trade bait are stained by their performance last year. Can we honestly see the team paying part of the salary of a player no longer on the team? This leads to a lot of low-level moves like we saw last year. Those aren't the things that lead to the world series.
  8. Right now he is a PR - I am not impressed and looking at the next set of prospects I do not see holding on to him.
  9. Sorry but I'm traveling and I haven't got time to go further. Now with what the point is I don't care what age somebody is. If they can fill in for a year or two use them. They don't have to go over the Hall of Fame. But last year we went for a 38-year-old for the position. So why not a 27-year-old?
  10. I don't have time to go into all of them right now. I'm up in Gaspe Quebec. So how about just two Hall of famers. Ichiro and Earl Averill.
  11. Sometimes it does - We have given a lot of older players a chance - 27 is actually peak performance age.
  12. I would love to see McCusker get a chance - he seems like the ideal 1B - power and good bat (I don't like the Ks) and he has the height that makes him a good target. He and Miranda seem like the best duo right now.
  13. All I can say is that they found a way to keep the Twins in the news without spending a dime.
  14. Baseball has made another shift to where the SB is now another integral part of baseball. The Twins missed the memo.
  15. They weren't going to sell the team until they decided they would, a budget is not a law and it too can be changed.
  16. I raised this question in another posting - who makes the calls on spending while the Pohlads position themselves to sell the team? Can the FO actually function in this limbo?
  17. Interesting, but I find coaches and assistant coaches and all the other influences are really hard for a fan to judge.
  18. I like what they have done and I expect that the OF is one of the easier areas to address. Nice job KC. Which brings me to the Twins who did not make the needed adjustments and now that it is for sale does that tie the hands of the FO?
  19. Loved this memory - I was expecting great things from him when the Twins arrived. But players often went downhill quickly in their 30s during that period. Thanks for the note - by the way Roy Sievers was traded to the White Sox the year before the club came to MN. The two of them together were a dynamic duo for a lousy team. Pascual was a terrific pitcher who won 174 games and had 40.9 WAR. Ramos was not at Pascual's level, but won 117 games and had 21.9 WAR SABR has this statement "Camilo Pascual and Pedro Ramos, a pair of ill-starred hurlers who were among the best ever produced by their baseball-crazed homeland and yet were destined to ring up records for futility throughout their early American League years under Griffith’s club ownership." "From his rookie season of 1954 onward, Pascual was recognized around the junior circuit as a considerable natural talent who possessed one of the most devastating curveballs ever seen on the professional diamond." I look forward to your biographical look at these pitchers in the future.
  20. Stewart and Topa have too many injury issues on a team that seems to have a lot of fragile bodies so we cannot count on them for next season or beyond even though we hope we can. The BP is always an issue, but Cleveland and Detroit have demonstrated the value the pen has.
  21. I can't judge the announcement. I need to see what interest there is and who is interested. Right now I am ready to see the Pohlads go, but for a team that has a history of Calvin and the Pohlads (is that a cartoon series) I can only wait and see. But some change had to happen. What I am seeing however is that the Pohlads thought the bottom line was a better sales incentive than a winning team.
