  1. This is really interesting. He has a very unique hitting style and he takes it to the extreme. It’s like he is looking for one pitch in one spot and if ain’t there he’ll take strike 3. Not my cup of tea but his ops is respectable.
  2. Someone has to pitch more than one inning. And it ain’t gonna be the top guys.
  3. I think you nailed it. The Twins will eventually emerge as the best team IF nothing happens to Lopez Ryan or Ober. If one of those guys gets seriously hurt then I don’t think we will prevail. Our starting pitching is paper thin.
  4. I love Castro but it looked like there were two balls that dropped in that Buck would have caught.
  5. Obviously I have no idea if there has been a formal change to the clubs hitting philosophy. I did notice several players choking up with two strikes. Jeffers is one of them and he has been really tough with two strikes lately.
  6. This is an interesting topic to me. First the starting rotation has been excellent the last few years and even the bullpen this year. However I think it matters a lot how you get there. Getting there via trades almost exclusively means giving up valuable assets. If you draft and develop your starters you don’t have to do that plus you have the starters other teams want. Starting pitching is the best currency you can have in baseball. The Twins while doing well via the trade route have stunk drafting and developing starters with Ober being the only one to date (I’m talking proven MLB starters). I find this odd because the Twins have clearly been good at taking existing pitchers and making them better. Maybe it’s simply that they won’t use top picks on pitchers but it’s a strange dichotomy.
  7. Yea he has had a couple misplays in big spots for a guy that is supposed to be good with the glove.
  8. I agree with you about the box on TV. It’s not the one umps are graded upon. Who knows what the umpire scorecard is using. If this is going to be shown it needs to be the one the umps are graded on. I believe the one they are graded on has a small buffer zone around the plate where either call is acceptable which is different than the box on TV. A week or so ago Angel had the plate for the Twins. According to the box on TV he did well - I only saw a couple misses during the 7 innings I watched. Another poster posted the umpire scorecard the next morning and it wasn’t very good. I think the other big change is that hitters will take borderline pitches with two strikes. The just about guarantees that someone is going to be mad. When hitters protected the plate with two strikes there were fewer of these situations.
  9. Excellent article Cody. Well researched with reasonable theories. I wonder if teams are adjusting to him for the first time. Previously he got hurt so frequently teams didn’t need really need to make a plan to pitch to him. I view him as in the same boat as Julien Wallner Larnach and Miranda. They all have to prove they are bona fide MLB hitters. Chances are 2 will make it and 2 will bust. We won’t know until they each get 1000 -1500 at bats. These guys are also similar in that none of them are great fielders so their bats need to be special.
  10. Let’s eat, Grandma. Let’s eat Grandma. Punctuation matters.
  11. Three Finger Brown is great. With regards to the Wolves playoff run Slo Mo might be the best modern nickname. It’s perfect for him
  12. Poor double play turn all the way around
  13. I’ve always liked Garvers swing. So compact yet powerful.
  14. What comes to my mind is that in 8 years Falvine haven’t developed a right handed hitting outfielder good enough to forego Margot. (Did you see what I did there 😂)
  15. That ball was scorched. Way too go Jeffers. And Max just scorched one.
  16. Thanks for writing this Nick - it had to be said. Obviously I have no idea what ownership thinks on this subject but it feels like there is a disconnect in their understanding of their customers. My mother in law has always been a big Twins fan. She hasn’t been able to watch them for several years so she’s moved on. Doesn’t follow them doesn’t go to games anymore etc. My guess is this is happening in large numbers across Twins territory.
  17. One possible explanation is that Rocco wanted to show confidence in him after a really rough game.
  18. Yep. Watching the post game show Rocco said the contact play was on. Still thought Max should have put some pressure on the fielder to make a throw but past that he needs to get into a rundown so the runners advance and he did that successfully.
  19. Very good win. Fun to win the pitchers duels. Looks like Rocco out managed Servais 😀
  20. The regression monster has bit Eddy big time.
  21. Omg Max. If the contact play is on run. If it’s not pull your head out. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
  22. Agreed but I don’t have a problem with - that’s their opinion. I can easily move past a negative comment. What bogs things down is the same comment or slight variation of it over and over in an attempt to “win” the argument.
  23. To get his production out of the catcher spot is a real bonus. He has made noticeable improvements in his hitting and catching since he came into the league.
  24. Blaming Angel is incredibly weak. I didn’t see the pitch you are referring to but I saw innings 2-7 and it was one of the better games I’ve seen this year year. He literally didn’t miss a pitch.
